This place exists to take advantage of desperate and lazy students. Everything is horrendously overpriced. I have avoided coming here for most of my Berkeley experience, but one time I was forced to after realizing late at night I was toothpaste-less. It was about 5 dollars for one tube. ONE TUBE! You can buy a 6 pack from Costco for that price! However, its location is convenient and probably safer than walking down to Shattuck on a dark night.

I’ve seen this place may a time, always foreboding and dark and deserted looking, even on happy sunny day. I assumed it was either some cult-gathering place or a bad front for some drug operation (it is across the street from People’s Park after all). However, I finally had the occasion to visit the place and found out that it is actually a meditation center! They have lectures on Sundays too, which is open to anyone and everyone. I believe Thursday night is open meditation night, so come after six to cleanse your spirit, etc.

Momoyama is great! The owner is this Korean sports fan, so there is always be some sports show on the TV. The place is a little pricey, but if you order their chirashi sushi, then you are definitely getting your money’s worth. The chirashi sushi is a bowl of rice with assorted sushi on it. Very delicious and very filling too! Their rolls are all delicious; so don’t be afraid to experiment. The place located is in a dark little alley-like area, but the interior is well lit and well decorated, just enough to be bright and cute but not enough to be gaudy. It is pretty small though, so be sure to make a reservation if you have a big party.

A very tiny location, though if you are in the area you have probably been assaulted with its delicious aroma wafting out of its windows. Plan to eat your meal elsewhere, as what little seating there is is almost always occupied. My favorite is the Cajun cod sandwich, which is very tasty with a tiny, spicy kick. None of their dishes are overbearing in flavor, and feel light and healthy (though that’s doubtful.) I wasn’t so impressed by their famous fried potato balls, but they are unique so definitely give them a try at least once.

This Starbucks was my favorite place to study my sophomore year. Conveniently located right across the street from a bus stop, it is easily accessible by the 7, 9, or 43. Because it is located pretty far away from campus, it is a mostly older and quieter crowd, so no need to worry about loud study groups here. It is also located very close to cheeseboard, barney’s, and cha’am, all delicious places to reward yourself after a productive day of studying.

Don’t expect to have any of your questions concerning any products answered, but if you know what you want, you can most likely buy it here. Conveniently located and friendly service.

Michael’s is HUGE. I usually come here for knitting supplies, and they have a huge selection of both yarn and needles, of all different types. A lot of the yarn is located pretty high up on the shelf, but there are sales associates aplenty to help you out. They also carry a lot of fake flowers and other crafty supplies and tools. A very friendly place that will almost certainly satisfy whatever crafting urges you may have.

Although this place is pretty crowded at lunchtime, I’ve never had to wait for a seat. I go to this place all the time, and the only problem I can think of is that you should go later in the afternoon rather than earlier in the morning. The reason being that the soup can be cold or undercooked in the morning, as they haven’t fired up the stove for the lunch crowd yet. Also be careful if you come here in the summer, as the place sometimes will have a few flies floating around the restaurant.

Although heavily advertised as a friendly, intimate neighborhood grill, and with obvious effort being spent on the decorations inspired by local schools and events, the place just cant mask the fact that their food doesn’t taste good. The atmosphere is indeed casual and friendly, always loud and chummy, but the menu is lacking. Everything is standard American cuisine, cooked with average skill, and definitely not worth the inflated price.

My family has always come to Leslie's for all our pool needs. They carry everything you will ever need to keep your pool sparkling clean. They also will test your pool water for you (free, I think) if you bring in a sample. The sales associates are always very helpful, and if you describe a symptom for them, they will come up with a solution, probably in the form of more chlorine. They also carry a selection of inflatable chairs and other fun pool accessories. Great place!
