I hate getting gas at Daily's. The pay at the pump is often "down" so you have to go inside to pay. I really hate that so I try not to get gas there at all, EVER.
On the other hand, the people who work inside the little Daily's mart are the nicest, friendliest, most helpful people in Gainesville. Stopping there for cigarettes, or coke, or a pack of gum is always a pleasure.
They get 1 star for gas pumps and 5 stars for service inside the store. I guess that averages out to a 3, eh?

There's a tiny little bagel shop in Thornebrook Village that you should know about. Not only do they have bagels, they also have quiche and interesting sandwiches (lots of vegetarian varieties) but your order comes with both fruit and home fries on the side. The first time we ordered and the fruit and homefries arrived with our sandwiches we were shocked. We expected chips or something like that - certainly not homemade homefries and fruit! That's almost healthy, ya know?
They only take cash so go to the ATM - and enjoy!

Don't let the traffic on Archer Rd or the parking problem on University stop you from visiting Jimmy John's for a sub. The bread is excellent, the filling is terrific and the service is amazing. I have never seen anyone make subs as quickly as the folks at Jimmy John's do.
I prefer the Archer Rd store over the University store but I'm older than dirt and don't always want to eat surrounded by college kids.

Everyone in Hoggetowne knows that Maude's makes a nice cup of coffee, particularly as an alternative to Starbucks across the way. But a lot of people don't realize that Maude's also has food. Really good food. A lot of vegetarian options, too.
One warning - they are slow. Don't order food there if you are in a hurry!

Besides being just across the street from my neighborhood the thing I like the most about Wild Birds Unlimited is that the folks there remember your name!
You can be out in the community and bump into them and it might take you a minute to place how you know them but they immediately recognize you as a customer, remember your name and ask you about your birds (or squirrels in my case!).
Friendly and always willing to help.

Wild Iris is the longest running feminst bookstore in Florida and it's just down the street from the University of Florida. Great women's books, feminist theory, best sellers, children's books and textbooks too. You can find female positive and gay positive gifts, movies and cards too.
Wild Iris often has book signings, poetry readings and Independent Musicians playing in the backroom.
This is not a bookstore you want to miss.

We are always on the lookout for a restaurant that services a good breakfast and Jeff's Deli does just that. Jeff serves good deli no matter what time you wander in.
We've tried 4 or 5 breakfast menu items and all of them have been very good. We've tried 3 different lunch items, all were good. The Lime Ricky was good too.
Be prepared, it's often very crowded so you may need to wait a few minutes during prime times.

We first tried Momo's pizza through the Gatorfood service and we were shocked at how good it was. Since that first order, we've yet to have a bad pizza experience with Momo's. It's inexpensive with just the right amount of garlic and cheese and sauce.
And the slices are big, really big!

My family's favorite ice cream shop in town is the Sweet Dreams Homemade Ice Cream Shop on University.
They rotate their flavors so it seems like there is always something new to try. The Guiness Beer ice cream was a surprising favorite.
The kids also enjoy their sundaes, cheesecake on a stick and their smoothies. They've got a great mocha java drink that I really enjoy.
Oh I almost forgot - they have a customer card so you get a free cone after 7 cones and they show movies outside of the store on the weekends in the spring and summer.

We use to really appreciate the service and the location of the CVS drugstore in the Millhopper Shopping Center on the corner of NW 43rd and NW 16th - but not anymore.
We live virtually across the street but the service has become so bad in the Pharmacy section that we've transferred all of our prescriptions to another store - one that's an extra 10 minutes from our house.
Bad service!
