In terms of the wedding circuit I've been traveling this summer (8 weddings in 3 months), BCBG has saved me a lot of time, stress and ultimately, money. After checking out the merchandise and Barney's, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf's and what felt like every store that began with a B in New York City, I stumbled into BCBG where I'd actually had some dress shopping luck in the past. With four floors of beautiful dresses to choose from (at the Madison location) and a friendly staff to assist me, in an hour and a half, I tried on over 30 dresses, liked about 10 of them, loved about 5 of them and bought 3. I am not a big shopper. For me to leave a store with a bag full of dresses is not an image my friends would even believe when I reported my shopping binge the next day. But it's true- BCBG outfitted me for what's so far turned out to be a highly enjoyable summer of weddings. With four more weddings already lined up for NEXT summer, I'll definitely be back next June- if not before then!

For naturally curly, often frizzy-headed me, the idea of smooth, silky, STRAIGHT hair is enough to make my mouth water. As I see it, I have two options:
1) 45 minutes sweating away with the hair-drier in my tiny bathroom before work
2) an over-priced blow out at one of New York's many overpriced salons that never lasts as long as i want it to.
Then I discovered Jean Louis David, and their mid-week $25 shampoo/blow-dry, and now I'm hooked. don't get me wrong: I still do my hair myself most mornings, but when I'm really rushed or I want it to look really good, I pop into JLD, and 30 minutes later, my hair looks shiny, silky smooth and perfect.

Shun Lee is known for its delicious chinese food and great upper west side vibe. But it's also known for its rather pricey menu. However, the adjoining cafe is the ticket to a fantastic dinner at half the price. Dim sum is the speciality around here, and I highly recommend the steamed shrimp and chive dumplings. The orange beef is another tasty option, and for dessert- try the leeches- good for you and better-tasting than anywhere else in NYC that I can think of. Shun Lee Cafe is the perfect follow up or precursor to a night at Lincoln Center or one of the many excellent movie theaters on the upper west side.

The perfect place to spend a few hours on a sunday afternoon catching up with an old friend over strong, flavorful coffee and delectable desserts. If you're in a savory mood: try the cheese plate- delish! Also particularly good: the enormous chocolate chip cookies, the berry tarts, the chicken salad, the bread baskets, and of course... the cafe lattes. Long wood tables, good food and a breezy great atmosphere make this a perfect catch-up spot morning, afternoon or early evening.

After one too many long, uncomfortable flights this month, my boyfriend and I decided to stay in town for the weekend and re-invigorate ourselves with a spa day. Having never been to a spa for more than an hour-long massage or facial, we had a lot of research to do. We talked to friends and co-workers in search of the "best couples" day spa experience - ideally we wanted to indulge in a number of treatments and spend time together- at the very least, we wanted massages in the same room. And amazing massages we got. Great pressure, friendly staff, comfortable robes and clean, calming facilities (we also indulged in an aromatherapy/essential oil tub session and reflexology.) To top if all off, we got to pick the music we wanted to listen to and chill out in nice waiting rooms drinking tea and eating jelly bellies in between treatments.
