If you like supporting businesses that give back to the community, Studio 904 is the place to go. This hair salon has a no tipping policy because the owner pays the hair stylists a base salary. There's no expectations or added products, you just pay a flat fee. The greatest thing about this salon is it has daily specials--which is a 20% discount on various services. Any products you buy from them 5% will go to nonprofits. They also give haircuts and color to low income women who are returning or entering the work force. This is definitely a note worthy place! I love that they give back to the community and the pricing is very decent!
I recently went there for a body wave. This was my first time ever getting a perm and boy was I nervous. My hair stylist keeps asking me if I'm sure before starting. I told her I just have to try and see. She also pulled another coworker who just had a wave and told me to look at it to see if I liked it. Well, I decided to go for it and it turned out quite nice. It took a bit for me to get used to it but I think it turned out great. My coworker thinks its the best perm she's ever seen! The price of this perm? I paid $97 for the perm and a bottle of Aveda gel! That's pretty darn cheap! I'm coming back tomorrow for a hair cut!

A nice pair of jeans can be very expensive. If you like Sevens, Citizen of Humanity, or Paper Denim, you will be spending $170 for a pair. I find that these jeans fit me best and they're worth the money. However, you don't have to spend that much. Nordstrom Rack always carry these brands and you can get them for $70! $70 is a great deal for a nice pair of jeans. The only thing is sizes tend to run out quick. But I generally find men's sizes pretty easily though. I highly recommend going to Nordstrom Rack to look for jeans. You can even buy designer's shoes, shirts, and lots of other stuff for half the price! I love this place! The only problem is it gets really messy and you have to be willing to go through the mess to find great deals. If you're a clutter phobic, I don't suggest you going there.

For any sports accessories, big 5 is the way to go for cheap deals. I go there to buy camping stuff like lamps, or tennis balls. They often have deals. Check your Sunday paper for weekly specials. They have everything there and many convenient locations. From biking to soccer, anything you need. I bought my softball cleats there for $20 and my cooler for $15! Much cheaper than other places. Sometimes you can find pretty cheap work out clothing too. I also like the small feel of the store and the works are generally very helpful.

I've been to many Italian restaurants around Seattle, but I must say Serfina has left a lasting impression with me. I love the atmosphere of the restaurant and the staffs are all very friendly. I was there for lunch a couple of days ago and requested for outdoor seatings. This is one of my favorite outdoor sitting restaurant in Seattle. The place really makes me feel like I'm in a small town in Italy.
The food was also amazing. I love the calamari, it's not fried like most places, and very delicious! The affogato was also very good, a simple dessert for a summer lunch. The price is very affordable. My three course meal for lunch cost me $12.95! Highly recommended!

Fried Chicken, Greens, Corn Bread, Cat Fish, is your mouth starting to water? If you love soul food, you'll love Kingfish Cafe. It's located in Madison, convenient for Seattlelites. The inside of the place is cute, clean, with warm lighting and brick walls. Very classic!
The food was great. I had the Catfish and it was exceptional. It has a kick to it and was very tender. My favorite had to be the cornbread, that's the best I've ever had! It didn't taste sweet or heavy. The corn bread tasted very light and didn't have that heavy butter taste to it. The greens were a bit spicy, just the way I like it. Their fried chicken could be a bit crispier, but if you like the baked, healthier taste, it definitely gives you that impression! For dessert, we had the coconut cake. Beware, you should only order one, it's a really big slice of cake. We had 5 people, and we still couldn't finish the slice.

If you like big portions, decent food, and decadent cheesecakes, Cheesecake Factory is the place to go. I especially like the one in Bellevue Square. The staff are much nicer then the one in Downtown.
All the Cheesecake Factory have an extensive menu; from American Grill burgers, to sandwiches, to salads, to Pan Asian dishes such as the Thai Lettuce Wrap (my favorite). It'll satisfy any cravings you have. The pricing can be a little cheaper, but it's still not that bad for the huge portion. Their dessert menu is the best thing! My favorite is the Banana Cream Cheesecake! Yum...just perfect served with whip cream and fresh sliced bananas. Second to the Cheesecakes are the frozen mix drinks. These drinks are pretty pricey, but again, it's pretty big and will definitely quench your thirst!
The downside to this chain? It gets really crowded and you always have to wait without reservation during dinner time in the weekends. Otherwise, you can usually depend on their consistency (at least from my experience) and big portions!

I was craving for sushi and decided to try somewhere new. Since I have a passport card, I looked at their website and thought the Sake House Sushi Bar & Grill sounds good. On our way there, we called and asked if there was a table for two available in 20 minutes. The gal said, they will put a table under our name. When arrived, we were standing four about 5 minutes before the hostess approached us. Actually, there wasn't a hostess, it was a waitress. Basically, the waitress is the hostess.
Once we were seated, the menu came quickly, so did the water (which is a good sign since I was dying of thirst!). We ordered quickly and the free edamame shortly after we ordered. We waited, for about 15-20 minutes before our food came. The Sukiyaki and Nabeyaki udon came the same time, and the sushi followed 15 minutes later.
The Sukiyaki was actually really good, I think one of the best I've had in a long time. It was soupy and flavorful. The only downside was there wasn't enough beef! Otherwise, it was great. After eating the Sukiyaki, I was having high expectations for The Nabeyaki, which turned out to be bland. The udon was too soft, and the broth tasted like fat-free chicken broth--just bland! I ate half of the udon and tossed it aside and moved on to the sushi. I tried their spider roll and was not impressed at all. The soft shell crab did not taste like crab, it was kind of mushy and not crunchy like it's supposed to be. I didn't taste the fried crab, rather, it was just doughy and soft. The spicey tuna was indeed spicy, but the tuna did not taste fresh. As for our salmon (sake), the portion was decent but again, it lacked the freshness. The surf clam (hokaki) was the best out of all the sushi pieces we ordered.
Over all, the sushi was just ok. As for the service? We didn't get our refill of water as often and I just didn't feel as if they tried hard. But I must acknowledge that their Beef Sukiyaki was to die for! So my verdict? I'll come back there for the Sukiyaki, but not for sushi, and definitely not for the nabeyaki udon!

I was at Calcutta Grill today with my grandma and a relative in town from Switzerland. I wanted to show them the view from New Castle Golf Course while enjoying tea and dessert at the restaurant.
This is one of the best place to dine with out door seating that overlook the view of New Castle.
I ordered a pot of green tea, coffee, and a peach and huckleberry cobbler for dessert. While the coffee and tea came out quickly, the dessert took 20 minutes to come out. When waiting for my dessert, our waitress and the manager came out several times to assure us that it will come shortly. They also apologized sincerely and profusely for taking so long. As it turns out they were out of the dessert and had to make everything from scratch. This apparently took a lot longer then it normally does. However, they were so sincere and honest about the wait that I didn't feel agitated at all. In fact, I was taking my time enjoying the view. When the dessert came out, our waitress, again, apologized and told us that she wouldn't charge us for the dessert and the pot of tea. Our bill turns out to be only $5.41! This is what great customer service is supposed to be! I felt like I was appreciated and that I am a valued customer. You rarely get this kind of service now a day. Of course, when the cobbler came out, it was absolutely delish and totally fresh from the oven!
I highly recommend this place for a nice romantic meal with a great view. I've dine here several times and the food is pretty good. I just felt that today I had such a pleasant experience; I had to let JB know about it. I also left my JB business card as well. I hope they read my review.

My fiance and I were starving and we had to catch a movie within 40 minutes. We decided to head to Pacific Place and eat at Johnny Rocket, since it is a fast food restaurant. In any case, we arrived and was seated promptly. They took our order quickly. We ordered, chowder, chili, chicken fingers, and a burger with fries. We were dying of thirst and asked for water. We waiter for 15 minutes, and our waters didn't come. Then we noticed that other people were getting their food before us (although we were there first!). Finally, our waitress noticed how impatient I started looking and she came to us and apologized for the delay and assured me that the food is coming. I asked for water again.
Another 10 minutes passed and no water. The food came after 25 minutes. I don't understand why it took them so long to get us the chowder and chili since it was premade. They only and to put it in a bowl for us.
The chowder was not hot and the chili was dripping in oil! It did not taste good. The fries were ok. Our bill came out to be $25 for what we ordered. I thought fast food was supposed to be cheaper! Our side of fries was $2.35 (and it was less then what McDonad's give you!). We basically gulfed down our food, except the Chili and asked for our bill. By the time the bill came, our waitress decided to give us our water! I can't believe the water came last!
Granted that it is a fast food restaurant and my expectations are low, but the service was just really bad! There's really no excuse for forgetting water, shouldn't that be the first thing you bring? We just paid, leaving unsatisfied. I did make sure that I leave them my JB business card, I'm not sure if they care though!

I've noticed there have been quit a few upscale Asian bistro kind of restaurant popping up in the International District. Since I work in the area, I always try new places that pop up and review them here.
The most recent one that opened up on Monday is Made In Kitchen, located on 8th and Dearborn. I ate there yesterday expecting a mix of different Asian food. As it turns out, it's basically Vietnamese food that they serve. Being that it's new, the place is very clean and the decor is very, well, Asian Fusion with warm pait colors and bamboo surrounding the restaurant. The plate settings all matched. They get an A on decor.
Our waitress arrived, and trust me, she presented herself as a real newbie at the job and they definitely need to sharpen their customer service skills. I asked them about the dishes and what was the difference between the two dishes I was contemplating. The waitress answers? "I don't know, we're newly open and we're still trying to figure out the different sauces that goes with the dish." I thought to myself, hmm...interesting. So I asked her, since they serve only Vietnamese food, why wasn't there a Vietnamese menu? There was a Chinese menu though. Her response, "I don't know." I did cut her some slack, realizing that she really doesn't know much about the menu or food preparation. I finally ordered my dishes.
The food came out at different time with probably 5 minutes lapse or maybe more between the dishes. That wasn't good since one of our friend had to wait for her food. As for the food, when it finally came? It was ok. It's not bad.
My verdict on the place? Because it's very new and our waitress was really nice and honest about it being the first week of her job and the place is really cute, I'd give it another try.
