Just a block and a half off Washington is a great little place for sushi called Sushi House. Modern & trendy interior, they have regular tables and those high hat ones where you sit on high stools. It's always crowded and always good. The only downfall is it can get pretty loud! It's BYOB, so stop off at a local liquor store and pick up some sake or good wine to go with your sushi. Their rolls are great, not too small and they have a big selection to choose from. Some favorites are Madame Butterfly and Godzilla (in addition to the usual spicy tuna, shrimp tempura). I've never had room to even look at a dessert menu, but I think they do serve dessert. Now that the weather is getting nice, it's a great place to go and eat outside. Enjoy some good food and some fun people watching.

If you live in Hoboken or nearby you have to check out Urban Kitchen on Adams St. It's cooking school that offers single cooking classes- no need to be tied down certain nights of the week. Each class is a different topic! You can get a group together, or just try something on your own/with a friend. You can also participate in the class and learn how to make something new or just sit and enjoy watching the preparation and then dive into the dishes that have been made. Either way, you're going to have something delicious and have a good time. The classes are also BYOB, so bes sure to stop at the liquor store around the corner for some wine! Definitely a fun night out and a chance to try a new experience. You can check out class listings at their website, www.urbankitchen.biz

Just came back from celebrating a coworker's birthday at Bensi. You wouldn't know this place is a chain just by walking inside. No one rushes you, no silly gimmicks and real cloth napkins! They have a full menu of quick sandwiches, pizza, full pasta dishes, soups and more. I broke away from my usual Pizzone (like a calzone) and ordered a personal size Bensi Salad pizza. Thin pizza crust with a tossed salad ontop spritzed with a vinegrette. Delicious and light. Our server was polite and quick and was good about refilling drinks and bread. Few places where you can have a great lunch for only $8. Check out your local paper, Bensi always has 15% off coupons listed. (Usually 15% off Sun-Thurs).

Just went to South City Grill with a friend for dinner this week and we were blown away with the food as well as the service. Our server was very nice and easily offered suggestions of some favorite selections. We started with coconut shrimp for an appetizer- which were delicious. We then ordered salads; I had the Mediterranean and she ordered the special, which was mixed berries and greens. Both salads were wonderful. For our entrées, I ordered our server's suggestion of Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi-Mahi and my friend ordered a pasta dish with lobster. We continued eating well after we were both full because everything was so amazing. Just when we reached our limit, we took a glance at the dessert menu and had to order a piece of the 10 layer chocolate cake- also delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a slice of a NYC restaurant but closer to home. South City Grill is so easy to get to (on Rt. 17 South) and there's plenty of parking. Try to make a reservation, but even if you have to wait to be seated, they have a great bar to sit at.

Recently went to Cafe Michelina with friends...and then went back the following week with family...and then brought the in-laws about a week or two after that. This is how addicted you'll get to this restaurant. It's low key from the outside and not much fancier on the inside...but wait till your entrées arrive. It's really hard to pick a bad dish here. Their portions are also pretty big so come hungry. The only downfall here is you need to keep on the waiters/waitresses to fill up your water/drinks, bring more bread, etc...they tend to forget about their tables. Also, be sure to make a reservation before you stop by. No joke, on a Saturday night you can easily wait an hour or more. There's also no bar area, so you're waiting inside on a cute park bench or outside. The times I have gone, it has been too cold to sit outside, but I can't wait for the warmer weather to enjoy people watching while enjoying a fabulous chicken parm dinner. Cafe Michelina is also a bring your own, so don't forget to pick up your favorite bottle of red or white on the way. Or, walk to the nearest liquor store to kill some time while you wait for your table....if you forgot to make a reservation! This is a must for anyone who enjoys good italian and doesn't need an fancy atmosphere.

If you're craving some great pizza (sausage, onion & broccoli is beyond good here), you need to check out Turvino's Pizzeria and Restaurant in Glenrock. I've been going there for over 10 years now for pizza and their chicken parm dinners. The portions are large and they serve salads with their dinners. Another favorite in my family is the Penne ala Vodka with sausage and peas! You can't beat the prices. Everything is completely low key, you seat yourself, the waitstaff are local high school/college kids, but the food is delicious. They don't have a liquor license, so you need to bring your own...or just head next door to the Bottle King and pick up your favorite beer or bottle of wine. Don't be put off by the limited parking in the front of the place, there's plenty more in the back and there's an entrance back there too. They're not too far off of Century Rd and Paramus Rd, so they're easy to find.

If you are looking for an exceptional tailor, you need to head on over to Willow Ave in Hoboken and stop in a little shop called Domineco Spoleti Custom Tailoring. My husband and I walked in a couple of Saturdays ago carry 4 suits that he had recently bought. We were certainly not the only ones in the shop, so we had to settle in for about 40 mins until it was our turn. Once I watched Domineco in action, I realized why no one was complaining about the wait. He takes his time with his measurements, and doesn't rush anyone through their fittings. He is quick to greet everyone who comes into the shop, but he focuses on his customer at the time. My husband's suits came out perfect. Domineco Spoleti is not inexpensive, but someone once pointed out why spend all this money on a quality piece of clothing and then cheap out on the alterations, possibly ruining the item? Makes sense to me. One thing to keep in mind is that this shop only takes cash, so definitely ask ahead of time for an estimate of how much your alterations will be. I doubt anyone would be disappointed having alterations done at this tailor shop.

What a valuable treasure right in the middle of Allendale's main street. The Allendale Bar & Grill....or the AB&G as it's truly known, is a great place to meet up with friends, relax with a good meal and enjoy a fun night out. Aside from their delicious burgers, or famous buffalo chicken wrap, you must, must, must check it out on a Tuesday night for their "All you can eat Pasta Buffet"! You can not imagine how many different items there are for you to choose from. Several types of pasta, about a dozen choices of sauces (all prepared fresh) and probably 30 items (sausage, breaded eggplant, peas, 3 kind of mushrooms, spinach, shrimp, meatballs, asparagus, and sooo many others) to create your own unique dish. I'm someone who loves to eat and even I can't finish my bowl of pasta. I've heard they have a Sunday brunch that is equally amazing. That's next on my list! They have specials during football season and bands during the summer. It's a great place for a family, a couple, or even a bunch of single friends. Definitely worth checking out.
