Around the sound, Subaru's are more common than in other regions. Our mountain weather and sports see to that at. Eastside Subaru is a competent dealer. After going through financial troubles, they are now owned by a more stable ownership group. But everything about Eastside feels small and you'll see it in the shop. Other dealers will give you faster service and will wash your car. Eastside is slower and doesn't always do that. Other dealers will offer loaners. Eastside tends to be a little more restrictive. With time, this dealership may improve. But you might shop around for service.

River City Arcade is a typical "fast food" dining experience that you might find in a rural tourist town. They have sandwiches, fish and chips, burgers, and other treats. My favorite is their soft serve ice cream and shake flavors. They'll mix up almost any flavor you want, just choose a possibility from the chart on the wall. It can take time to get your food but parking is usually available on the street and they do have a walk up window. Inside dining atmosphere is a little stuffy but you can also have sidewalk seating on a good day.

I'm an Apple fan. It's nice to have a computer that encourages creativity and it is not prone to viruses. As Apple Stores go, the store at Alderwood Mall is a nice mixture of accessability and selection. It feels a little bigger than the Bellevue Square Store though it seems smaller than the theater equipped store in the University district. Parking and traffic can be difficult during the holidays and peak periods since Alderwood's "outdoor" shopping and restaurants are the newest stores and draw the most visitors. Staff is usually knowledgable. Their selection of accessories and software is good.

You might be a transplant and want to learn more about this area in which you now live. Or you might have grown up here and want a trip down memory lane. For either type, the Museum of History and Industry is a long time fixture in local life. The kids will find displays that allow them to walk the old streets and see how lumber and fishing shaped our region. Adults will see the old signs and an old hydroplane. It's a short afternoon diversion. The kids may grow bored a little quicker than you hope. Parking is good and the arboretum makes a convenient picnic ground in the summer. Handicapped parking is limited and access is mediocre at best. The gift shop is great if you're looking for those books or DVD's about local TV celebrities.

There are few places in the Seattle area where you can see dinosaur bones and have a prehistoric adventure. The Burke Museum on the University of Washington campus is just such a place. Membership is cheap though the exhibits do not rotate enough to make long term membership productive for the entire family. Their history of the region exhibit covers dinosaurs to more modern wildlife. The triceratops skull and saber tooth cat exhibit are memorable. For families with an ethnic blend of the Pacific rim, the downstairs cultural exhibits can be a good way to educate the kids about their heritage.

The NW has a number of children's museums that appeal to the mind and spirit of the younger set. The Seattle Children's Museum is a great example. Located on the ground floor of the Seattle Center House, the Children's Museum houses a number of exhibits that expose children to the arts, sciences, nature, and world culture. It's a specialized museum. There is a little for the really young children and not much for older children. But a membership is ideal when your children hit that 4-8 year range. The gift shop is fun and available to outside visitors.

A friendly staff and convenient access make this an ideal vet clinic in the heart of Woodinville. The clinic is clean and the on site docs really know their stuff. They handle the usual dog and cat work but have been known to work on large animal and other specialties (such as pot bellied pigs). On those inevitable days when the news is bad, you'll find a group of people who really care.

If you are looking for a place to have a relaxed but still formal (suit and tie) business lunch, Canyons in Canyon Park (and other selected locations) is a worthy location. Catering to the business crowd, you'll find a small assortment of business services including complimentary WiFi. The Thai Peanut Chicken Wrap is a little bit spendy for an everyday lunch but is a delicious complement to negotiating that big business deal. Canyons can get busy at lunch but is usually able to handle the crowd quickly.

Seattle Repertory Theatre is for those evenings when you need a more "cultured" outing. Pay parking is conveniently located across Mercer Street in one of the Seattle Center garages. Do arrive early since parking can fill up. The Rep holds both a large and small theatre. Some of the best shows can be pretty serious but they try to mix up the mood with a little levity in the line up from time to time. The stage set is often breath taking. Senior citizens and those under 25 can get special pricing on tickets if seating is still available. "Pay What You Can" for last minute seating can also make a cheap but cultured date for the budget conscious.
