I love Diesel, they serve some of my favorite tea blends -- but my only complaint is that it is SO crowded. Anytime I try to meet a friend it's nearly impossible to get a seat. Students show up and take over an entire booth (that could seat 4) just for themself and their laptop. They camp out for HOURS. I wish there was a place designated for studying - and then the rest of the place for regular customers.

The Neighborhood is probably the best value in town for breakfast - but like all places, you usually have to wait a bit in line. The wait is worth it. With all breakfasts you get a yummy bread plate for the table, full of wonderful muffins, breads and rolls. Plus they serve you great warm cereal, that is a secret recipe! (I'd kill for it!) Then whatever you order from the menu is fresh and delicious. The egg, bacon and toast combo is my favorite. In the warm weather you are seated outside under a grape vine arbor, and in the winter months you sit in a small and crowded dining room - but the food is so good it won't both you a bit!

Thai Kitchen is a great hidden gem. It's is on Mass Ave parallel with Davis Square. Just a few minutes walk from the T stop. It's a no-frills atmosphere, but the service is so great that you feel like you're in a 4-star restaurant. I recommend any of the "all-day specials" you get hot and sour soup, an entree and an appetizer all for under around $9. And then at the end of the meal you get free ice cream, and yummy candies with your check. Your water glass will never be half-empty and my favorite part is when you leave, the staff say "Goodbye" and "Thank you" - whic I really appreciate. Check it out - it will become your new favorite neighborhood restaurant!

For years I went to independently owned dry cleaners all over the Porter/Davis/Harvard Sq area. I found a few that did an okay job, for somewhat decent prices. However, now I only use Zoots in the Porter Square Shopping plaza. They are fabulous. Easy to drop off any time of day or night, super quick turn-around time, and they take extra care with your clothing. They actually stuff the sleeves of women's blouses with tissue paper so they don't get all creased and wrinkled after dry cleaning! If you become a "preferred member" you get overnight service for no extra charge! You might pay little bit more than the local shops, but the extra service and attention to detail is really worth it!

the best places I've found are in Watertown and in Natick. The place in Watertown is called David Leather Dyeing, 127 Mount Auburn St, Watertown, MA. Even though it says leather, they dye fabric shoes too. They have done a great job, and I think it costs about $20.
I've also used Shoes to Dye For in Natick (on Rte 9) and they charge about $15. Both are great! Hope that helps.

It can take a long time to find great pizza that you love and that is so dependable that you love it every time you order. Toni's by George in Medford is the place where I find my favorite pizza! It's so hard to explain what makes it great - and pizza is a very personal preference. Toni's by George pizza has a great crust, and that's what makes it stand out above the rest. It's not a doughy soft crust that tastes raw - instead it's got a great crispy exterior to the crust with just the right chew on the inside of the crust. The toppings are generous and the sauce is delicious without overpowering the rest of the pie. Toni's subs and dinner plates are all great too. The restaurant is spotless and clean, service is fast and friendly, and the prices are great. Delivery is wonderful too - food always arrives warm and the order is correct!

My book group chose to gather at Zoe's for our monthly meeting. I hadn't had GOOD chinese food in years, so I wasn't actually expecting much. I was truly pleasantly surprised! Zoe's is GREAT chinese food, and is by far the best in the greater Boston area. I highly recommend the scallion pancakes for an appetizer and the Spicy Chicken with Hot Pepper, as well as the General Gau's chicken. Our table also ordered a whole fried fish which everyone loved, along with the eggplant with garlic sauce. The service was excellent, and one good tid-bit to know - it's a B.Y.O.B restaurant, with a handy liquor store directly across the street. We brought our own bottles of wine and had a great time!
