I too visited Paper Source about a million times while planning my wedding - I made all sorts of paper goods from their products! It's a great place for non-paper items too, like stamps, ribbons, etc. The prices definitely are higher than your average AC Moore or Michaels type store - but their inventory is very different too. I love their greeting cards, their wrapping paper, notecards, etc. It's a great place to buy gifts for all sorts of occasions!

This is the place to go if you're going out with a group (small or large) and want somewhere where everyone can find something they love on the menu. The menu is really diverse, with great prices, and they always have fantastic specials. I'm particularly fond of their Turkey Burger - delish! Great selection of beers on tap, the service is above par and the atmosphere is simple, comfortable and relaxed. It's about 1/2 way between the Harvard T and the Porter T - an easy walk from either!

I pop in here every few weeks just to take a look at their amazing selection of antiques. Usually the furniture inventory doesn't change much, but the accessories and collectibles are always changing. There are always really cool Tiffany style stained glass lamps, cool china, neat clocks, etc. It's a great place to "treasure hunt" for the perfect item for your home - you never know what you'll find! My impression is that you can haggle a bit on price, especially on larger more expensive items!

Hillside has fixed my cars many times - and has done a good job. Their labor charges seem reasonable, and they are attentive to let you know what they need to do and whether it HAS to be fixed. I did have my brakes done last year, and I'm not totally thrilled with the results - so it will mean another trip to see them - but that's sort of the way things go once your car reaches 10 years old! I do respect Hillside and never feel like I'm getting ripped off there at all.

Last weekend I had so many loads of laundry to do that I opted to do them at Royal White instead of in the two coin-op machines in my basement. Well, it was a fine experience until I realized that someone swiped a whole load of my towels and took them home! I lost about 6 towels. I wasn't standing right in front of my dryers watching them spin around, so perhaps it my fault for leaving them "unattended" - but I was in the room, just sitting and reading until my dryers were done! I talked to the manager, but he didn't give me much hope. He told me to check in a few days to see if they got returned, but they didn't. Oh well! I think I'll stick to the safety of my own building from now on.

I truly hope that this indie book store can make a go of it. The area definitely need a good book store, I just hope that people continue to shop there instead of always turning to the bigger stores or Amazon. I feel good about buying my books here b/c I know I'm supporting the idie effort. And Cafe Zing is a great bonus! My book group has had our meetings here several times, and we love browsing the shelves afterwards to help us pick our next book!

Lyndell's definitely has a cult following, and for good reason. The cakes are so traditional and delicious - and the cookies, pastries and other goodies are just as great! They've been doing what they do for a very long time, and definitely do it right. A birthday just is not a birthday without a great cake from Lyndell's! (and you really can't beat the prices for the quality either!)

When I first moved to Davis Sq, it cost $4.50 to see a movie. Times have changed, and so have the prices - but it's still a great place to catch a second run flick. Their concessions are definitely cheaper than the chain theaters - and the popcorn doesn't come out of a 50 gallon garbage bag that was popped sometime last year - its fresh and real and good. My only complaint about the theater is that the seats are really uncomfortable - and the projection isn't so great. They must have older machines - b/c there are always dust particles and "scratches" running up and down the margin of the screen. But, for the price, it's still a good place!

great smoothies - I think I've tried every single one on the menu by now. I do have my favorites- if I'm in the mood for a dessert type smoothie - the peanut butter/chocloate is just to die for! I definitely visit Blue Shirt more during the summer months - and grab a smoothie and a salad with goat cheese for my dinner. Just a nice light bite when it's HOT outside. Good service - the prices seem to be getting higher each time I go... but I still love it. I've never really eaten at the restaurant - it's just too small and crowded - but great to-go.

I love Mike's - I love everything about it. It's a little grungy, a little "local flavor", a little greasy spoon, with a little attitude. Perfect! Great subs, great pizza, and some great pasta dishes too. Lots of beer on tap - including "Mike's Brew" - which I've heard is just PBR from a keg! But it's cheap, and that's great. Big screen TV to chow down while watching the Sox, Bruins, Celts or Pats. Just an overall great hangout for a quick bite.
