The Jolly Roger is a big store that's realy hard to get around in due to the massive collection of stuff it sells. Everywhere you look - up the walls, on the floor, in shelves and cases and on hooks, there's more crap to see. It's like an antique store with kitsch, combined with a pawn shop. They have a fair amount of old/used jewelry and some waaaay overpriced items - including a $14,000 piece of someone's coffin. If you're looking for something completely random, you'll find it here - it might take hours of scavenging, but it's gotta be around there somewhere!

I believe that great haircut and style can totally change the way you view the world. Van Leez consistently provides great hairstyles - you'll never see a mullet or crusty bang leaving this place! As a result, they have a pretty long waiting list - definitely make an appointment, as you'll never get a walk-in.
They sell and use Bumble and Bumble and Aveda products, two of the best prestige brands available. The whole Van Leez experience is very high class and the service is excellent. You get what you pay for, but you'll pay a lot. I'd rather pay $50 for a great haircut than $12 for a Hairmasters mop of curls, and I'll gladly keep paying the premium for Van Leez' expertise and quality.

Dooce, whose real name is Heather, writes an awesomely funny and frequently updated blog about her life. The blog was, once upon a time, about her rock-and-roll fun life in Los Angeles - then she met her husband, got fired for her blog, eloped, moved to Utah, and had a baby. Somehow, she's managed to make all of this real-life stuff into a hilarious online monologue. I love her daily pictures of her adorable little girl and dog, and I love how she makes millions of blog readers feel like they're welcome to read about her everyday family life.

Livejournal is one of the many blog sites that have popped up in recent years. Where it excels is in its networking functions, allowing you to allow only certain groups of friends - or only you - to read your posts. It's also pretty open to customization. I've had a blog here for four years and I love the site - I've thought about moving my blog, but then remember that I really like LJ and most of my friends won't switch from it, anyway.

Although I'm primarily an Amazon.com kind of girl, I like to peruse this local Books-a-Million for magazines and the occasional gift, greeting card, or quick read. The associates here are usually pretty helpful - one girl once called three locations, and then called a competitor's store - to help me locate a hard to find title!
I do think that this store is slow on getting new-release magazines - other bookstores and grocery stores usually beat them at getting these to the shelves by three or four days - but the sales here make it worth coming back. If you like your books from a real live bookstore, you can't get better than this in Montgomery.

I recently visited the Montgomery David's Bridal location to look for bridesmaid dresses with a soon-to-be-married friend. We were impressed with the huge selection of dresses at David's - tons of styles in tons of colors - and the wide range of availability in different sizes. We received courteous service, although I wouldn't exactly say that it was particularly warm. I guess it's hard to be as excited as a bride is when you deal with weddings day in and day out, but the sales associates didn't show very much enthusiasm.
Overall, we had a nice experience at David's and I'd recommend it to anyone in the market for a formal dress.

I've had four iPods in my time - a 3rd generation, a Mini, a Shuffle, and now a Nano. I keep passing my old ones off on family members, and save needing a battery replacement after two years or so, they still work just fine. I like this new tiny iPod because it's perfect for working out with - it's tiny and light enough that it doesn't get in the way, and its color screen is bright and crisp. This Nano holds about 700 songs for me, and I also use it to store a handful of photos. It works perfectly and I haven't had any scratching issues - as a hint, get a rubber cover like an iSkin and leave the original clear plastic over the screen, and you'll be just fine.

Evian has one thing going for it that no other brand of water does - it's available damn near everywhere and it tastes great (and the same) no matter where you go. I'm sure this is the water that the French bathe their goats in, but I'm so sensitive to varying levels of iron and fluoride in water that I'll gladly pay the premium for this stuff to know that I won't get a headache when I'm traveling. It's pricey, and I rarely drink it at home, but I'm really glad that it's mass-produced so that I can buy it here, in France, in England, in China, and everywhere else I feel like visiting.

I'm an alumna of Mary Baldwin College's Program for the Exceptionally Gifted. I went to MBC for two years, majoring in biology and minoring in health administration. There are two things that Mary Baldwin offers that make it unique and grand. The small, all-female campus is gorgeous and fosters a really special feeling of cameraderie - imagine the whole campus as one big sorority, and you'll get the idea. The classes are small enough that you really get to know your professors, and they're able to help you as much as you'd like - a BIG advantage over huge state schools where you're merely a name on a roll and a body in a seat. If you're looking for a great small college to start you on the path to success, MBC is definitely worth your consideration.

CompUSA is a great place to buy a computer - and if you're a Mac user like I am, they're pretty much the only place to buy a computer in the area. They have a friendly & helpful guy who specializes in Macs. They also sell PC computers, games, monitors, peripherals, iPods, digital cameras, and all kinds of other electronic goodness. We love to shop here because of their extensive Mac selection.
Word to the wise - they barely ever answer phone calls. You can check stock in compusa.com if you're driving a long way or looking for something in particular.
