Quizno's makes great sandwiches, and this location is no exception to that. Staff turnover at this location is surprisingly low, so it is easy to build up a nice relationship with some of the employees. The main issue with this location, though, is the parking. With a Jamba Juice, Red Brick Pizza, Starbucks, Wells Fargo, and others all crammed into this little shopping center off of Highway 68, there are never enough parking spaces at lunch time. In fact, it is often so crowded that just driving around the parking lot looking for a space can feel very dangerous. If you go, plan to take an early lunch and arrive before 11:45 or after 1.

Rosine's serves up the typical American-style fare you can find at most restaurants. The prices are reasonable, and the food is pretty good. But the real draw of this place is the cakes. Order a slice, but don't think you'll be able to finish it all on your own! From the moment you walk in, those cakes in the display case are just begging to be tasted...and you won't be disappointed! The slices are HUGE, enough for two or even three people to split. The flavors are a mix of classics like chocolate layer cake or German chocolate cake and candy flavors, such as Reese's peanut butter cup or Snickers. All are delicious, and you won't want to walk out without trying at least one! My advice: go for a salad or a half sandwich, and then split a slice of cake with a friend (or box up half the slice to enjoy the next day!).

I come to CPK with my friends when we hit Del Monte Center for an afternoon of shopping or before catching a movie at the new movie theater. The interior is large and generally very clean; you can also eat out on the patio if you like, which is fine for most lunches because of the heaters they've installed out there, but I'd ask to sit inside in the evenings. The staff is friendly and courteous. The food is really delicious. I've heard some griping from others about the price, but I've never had a meal be all that expensive here. Go with a friend, order a salad or a bowl of soup (I highly recommend the tortilla soup...yum!), and then split a gourmet pizza. Don't bother with dessert, as you won't have room. Trust me, if a bunch of college students can make it out for under $20, so can you!

Fresh Cream is a great place to go if you are celebrating something or looking for a place to make an evening special. The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is very upscale and the views of the ocean are spectacular. When you make your reservation (don't even think about showing up without one!), be sure to ask for a table by the window. You'll regret it if you don't! The prices are a bit steep, but nothing higher than what you might expect from a restaurant like this one. The food is classically French, presented beautifully and never disappoints in terms of taste. Fresh Cream is not the type of place you eat at everyday (unless you are Bill Gates, perhaps), but it is certainly worth it to splurge on a celebration here every once in a while!

Cook's Photography has been around for quite some time, and is definitely the place to go for all your professional photography needs. Ken Cook refuses to rush into the digital age, as so many photographers have, and so his photos continue to be the same high quality they have always been. You won't find a digital camera at Cook's! Don't worry, though, they do edit their photos on a computer and are able to airbrush out little blemishes and the like. Cook's does all types of events, from senior portraits to families to weddings. I highly recommend them. Some places may charge less, but you will get what you pay for.

I've been going to Fosters Freeze since I was a little kid, and it hasn't changed much - which is a good thing! Their ice cream treats are great; the only problem I ever have is making a decision with all their flavors! My personal favorite is Chip & Berry; you won't find it on the menu board, but they'll still make it for you.
Their hamburgers, fries and other sandwiches are also great, and I find that they are worth the price for a treat once in a while.
When I go home to visit, Fosters is always one of the places I make sure to visit at least once during the trip.
One tip: Fosters is a favorite of the students at Salinas High School, which is right across the street. Weekdays from late August through early June, avoid Fosters around noon, and also just before 3pm to avoid the huge crowds of students who swing by for a burger or Twister after school.

The selection at Pearl is absolutely phenomonal. I love being able to find so much in just one place. The service, though, is extremely lacking. Should you have a question, you will be lucky to find an employee nearby who'll answer it without making you feel ridiculous and below them. I got much more helpful advice from a friendly customer who overheard my question than from the store's employees themselves. It is a bit difficult to find what you are looking for in this place, simply because there are so many floors - I believe 7 or 8 in total, and they aren't well marked. If I couldn't find what I was looking for elsewhere, I'd go to Pearl, knowing I could find it there if I was willing to look for it. But unless I couldn't find it elsewhere, the service here makes it not worth my MetroCard swipe to get there.

I have truly found that you get what you pay for in terms of hair care. The Vidal Sassoon Salon at 5th and 59th is one of the best salons I have ever visited. From the moment you walk in the door, you are treated well. Assistants are always on hand to bring you magazines and practically any drink you can think of. When I had my hair cut there, the stylist was extremely professional and gave me exactly what I asked for. Best cut I've ever had, and she even took the extra time to show me how I could get the same look at home without spending hours doing my hair each morning.
The color that I had done a few months later was equally impressive. The colorist was a true professional who knew exactly what she was doing. She showered me with personal attention, and spent hours checking and reapplying the color to get it just right. No cutting corners here. Afterwards, the style that the assistant gave me was stunning.
I highly recommend this salon...I believe they offer student discounts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, if price is a concern. I find that the experience of this salon is worth every penny that you have to pay.

Who out there doesn't want to visit Candyland? In my opinion, Dylan's Candy Bar is as close as you're going to get in this city - or any other, for that matter. Founded by Ralph Lauren's daughter Dylan, this place is designed for a fun time for all! Although it is fantastic for kids, its not just built for them. As an adult, I love going there and just losing myself in the energy of the place. Certainly, you can find cheaper candy elsewhere, but the magic of Dylan's isn't in the candy, its in the whole experience. If you are looking for a real treat, take the kids to Dylan's and let them loose. Tell them they can pick one type of candy. They'll have fun for hours picking out the perfect piece to enjoy later on. This place is every child's (and many adults') dream come true!
EDIT: Yes, Dylan's has a website: www.dylanscandybar.com, where you can order the candies if you can't make it in person. Enjoy!

If you are looking for a cheap, easy pre-curtain meal, look elsewhere. If what you want is a high-class, top of the line meal, and are willing to pay for it, this restaurant is for you. The Grand Tier is only open before performances at the Metropolitan Opera House, and you can only get a reservation if you have tickets to the show. The atmosphere is sophisticated and elegant - it doesn't get any classier than this. The food is excellent and creative. Definitely don't skip dessert, either, as that was the highlight of our meal. The service was good, although nothing special for the price that one pays to eat here. Overall, this isn't the type of restaurant most people frequent all the time, but if you are looking to celebrate and splurge just a bit, a night out at the Grand Tier followed by a wonderful opera performance just can't be beat.
