Reeds is one of our favorite restaurants to go to for special occasions. The location itself is nothing to write home about -- it's located in a shopping center next to a dry cleaning place, a Ralphs, and a Chilis. However, the restaurant is a sort of Cal-French cuisine. The service is excellent, particularly if you are helped out by the manager Al. Al will also remember you if you are people who come in a couple of times and will always make a point of stopping by your table to say hello. It's a sort of small-town touch that often doesn't get practiced in Los Angeles.
The pear salad, mango salad, and house salads are all wonderful. The best entrees are the duck, filet mignon, chicken, and the veal. For dessert, the chocolate cheesecake is fantastic -- the vanilla and raspberry sauces are a great addition. Be sure to split it with someone else though because it's very rich!
If you're hesitant about spending what would amount to more than about $60 per person on a three course meal, try going on a special occasion like Valentine's Day. The prix-fixe menu on Valentine's Day is 3 courses and is only $50 per person (not including beverages).

I have visited Windows on several occasions now and will continue to come back to celebrate any special occasion. The view is outstanding, located on the 32nd floor of the SBC Building in downtown LA. The restaurant is walled in windows, so every seat has a good view (I prefer the window seats just so I don't have people walking past to disrupt the view). The service there is generally pretty wonderful.
As for the food...
The signature chopped salad is exquisite! The vinaigrette is perfectly light. If you prefer soup as a starter, the lobster bisque is excellent and one of the best in all of Los Angeles (if there's better, we haven't had it).
The steaks are divine. Be sure to order your filet medium rare -- it is cooked perfectly and is excellent when at this level. Basically all of their steaks are wonderful. I've never tried anything except the filet, but why mess up a good thing?! I recommend trying the cabernet sauce. As for sides, the mashed potatoes are good, but I much prefer the au gratin potatoes. They are decadent in cheesiness...and ya can't go wrong with cheese and potatoes! The baked potato is also wonderful and best made for two because it's way too large for one person.
The creme brulee is amazing. It's wonderfully creamy, nice and light with vanilla, and topped with lots of berries.
This is one of the best kept secrets of Los Angeles!

Parkway Grill is an amazing restaurant! I went with my fiance to dinner here for our anniversary. The valet parking attendant was friendly and attentive. We walked into the restaurant and were not made to wait for our table, unlike other LA area restaurants. We were seated at a cozy table and our waiter (whose name now escapes me) was tremendously attentive. He did all the little things that one would expect when dining at an upscale restaurant. And the food?! The food was incredible! I had one of the best filet mignons I've ever had, while my fiance had a delicious ribeye and and side of truffle french fries that were outstanding. I still remember and crave those even after several months.
Parkway Grill is not cheap, but it is definitely worth every penny.

I enjoy going out to the Bridge theater for date nights and with friends. The theater itself is really fun and modern, kind of like what you'd expect to see if you were in the cartoon "The Jetsons." The theaters themselves are large and comfortable, the seats are cushy and they have adjustable armrests.
The theater, while lovely, is not ultimately family friendly though. The films they show may cater to families, but the ticket prices are definitely cost prohibitive. An adult ticket is $12, which is a large amount of money to spend for the movies.
I would recommend the theater though because it's a great place to go and hang out to see a movie with friends or a date, but the high prices keep bigger groups, like families, away.

I went to UCLA for undergrad and grad school, so I've been in and around Westwood for a long time. Diddy Riese is a great place that we were introduced to at freshman orientation. The cookies are delicious when they've cooled, but are heavenly when warm! If you're feeling especially decadent, get the cookie sandwich filled with Dreyer's ice cream for only $1! The prices are cheap, but not the quality of the cookies. Even usc students come out to Westwood just for a bite of these tasty treats.
