Although I don't do any sewing or smocking or really anything that detailed or creative myself, I am from a family of expert sewers. The Smocking Loft is a great resource for such people and for moms of babies who are fortunate enough to have grandmothers who do such things! They have lots of patterns for baptismal/christening gowns, daygowns, etc. They also have a huge library of smocking patterns and gorgeous materials that you can't find at places like JoAnns. They also offer beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes for people wanting to learn smocking, hand embroidery, and other needlework. This is definitely the place to go in Franklin if you want to create heirloom clothing for babies or children. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

The Plaid Rabbit in the Cool Springs area of Franklin has some wonderful baby things. They have beautiful furniture, crib bedding, and accessories, but they are definitely high end pieces. Their soft baby clothing items are both functional and gorgeous, but again, you definitely pay premium prices. I found the staff to be less friendly than at other upscale baby stores in Franklin and Nashville and would probably prefer to shop at Especially Baby or Little Cottage Children's. However, they have lovely things that would be perfect for a special gift or occasion.

The Ragamuffin Shoppe in the Cool Springs area is one of my favorite baby stores. They have such beautiful baby clothes and accessories. I love all of their monogramming, the bright colors of so many of their clothes, and the cute designs. One of my favorite things I saw was their precious pillowcase dresses. I can just imagine a little girl with one of these on for a special picture. Their prices are by no means cheap, but their quality is excellent, and they carry items that you really don't find anywhere else. Very friendly staff!

This is a wonderful, wonderful store! Their main room is packed with precious smocked outfits for boys and girls from baby sizes through toddler and children's sizes. They have such cute fabrics and smocking patterns and different choices for practically every season and type of occasion. They also have a tremendous selection of cute pajamas for babies and children, and they carry the Zutano, Designs by Debbie, and Bunnies by the Bay lines (which are favorites of mine). I was impressed with how neatly organized all of their things were. Off the main room is a precious room for baby stuff. They have all kinds of beautiful receiving blankets, tons of cute bibs and burp rags, and a large assortment of outfits that would be perfect for a special coming home outfit, as well as christening gowns. I especially loved their incredibly soft knit onesies and daygowns that have matching hats, bibs, and blankets. Very friendly staff. I can't wait to go back after I know if I'm having a boy or a girl.

The USA Baby in Franklin is a great store. They have some very nice pieces of furniture, lots of bedding that you ordinarily can't see in person, and a great selection of other baby items. I was frustrated at Babies R Us, because I could never see all the color selections of the Peg Perego strollers and carseats, but this USA Baby had them all. In addition, attached to the store is a great furniture place for older kids and awesome outdoor play equipment. When I was there, they were also running an awesome sale on strollers, floor models of various things, and baby crib bedding. The salespeople were very friendly and helpful but not pushy.

This is my favorite baby/children's store in the Nashville area. Located on Bandywood, in the Green Hills area, you can imagine that it isn't for bargain shoppers, but the things they sell aren't usually found in most baby and children stores. They have a large selection of Feltman dresses and outfits, they carry Bunnies by the Bay, Zutano, Robeez, and other brands that you don't find just anywhere. They also carry Skip Hop and Fleurville diaper bags, which I haven't seen at too many places in the Nashville area. They also carried adorable things for older children and I was impresed that they had so many cute boy outfits. Their staff was very friendly. Their selection of bedding and baby furniture was definitely on the pricey end, but they had some very lovely pieces.

For Every Child is a really nice children's clothing store. It is located just off the square in Franklin. They carry several different brands, including Little Me, Feltman Brothers, Bunnies by the Bay, and others. The store is very crowded with lots of merchandise, but they have beautiful dresses, cute outfits, and staples for babies and children. They also carry Robeez and PediPed shoes. The salespeople were very friendly and helpful. Their prices were reasonable for the brands they carry although certainly not the place for people just wanting bargains.

The new Barnes & Noble at the Montclair mall is a great addition. It's a really nice store. Very quiet, given that it is located in a mall. The cafe is nice, and they have a great selection of books. So much better than the options you have at nearby Borders or other books stores. I've also found that the prices at Barnes and Noble are a bit cheaper than at Borders, and they have a much nicer atmosphere in which to shop. Their children's section is wonderful, and they have tons of magazines. It's a great way to spend an evening!

My husband and I have a small but meaningful obsession with Costco. We go there every weekend to browse and see what awesome deals we can find, maybe get a slice of pizza or a hot dog/drink combo (which is only $1.50). We buy our tires for our cars here, and we've had excellent service. Despite ads we've seen about beating Costco's price on tires, we have found that to be false, considering that Costco also offers free service on your tires if you buy from them. I love Costco for buying new paperbacks and cookbooks as well. The selection changes constantly, so if you see something you like, you better grab it then, because you'll likely not see it there next week. I've tried lots of Costco's Kirkland brand products and have been pleased with all of them - dishwashing detergent, bottled water, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. They also have great prices on fresh meats and seafood.

I recently decided to try a new hair salon, because I just wanted to do something different with my hair and wanted a new person here to do it. I had seen The Curling Iron several times as I went into Mimi's, and it seemed nice on the inside. I had a great experience. The girl who did my hair was Leticia. She did a great job. My haircut was only $35, and she did exactly what I wanted and gave me some tips on different ways I could style it to give myself a little variation. She was waiting for me when I walked in 5 minutes early and was so nice. The salon also has a great selection of hair products at reasonable prices. I will definitely go back!
