Another bad American Version of a culture

My husands' familyi is from Italy and dislikes this plave with a passion. They often comment that the food is rather bland and Americanised. I think it's probably true after eating their food in the house hold. The portions are big, thre a breadsticks are ok. I wanted to go here for my birthday so we did. My husband told the waitress and brought out a small chocolate cake. They charged us for the cake! It was appauling! Since then we haven't gone back!
