My friends and I rented out a large room here for a party, and it was so much fun. They even provide tambourines. Tambourines and BYOB are a great combination. I have since rented out smaller rooms for smaller gatherings. You can stay very late (I believe until 4 in the morning some nights of the week). The staff is super helpful and polite. My only complaint is the lack of songs in English, and the lack of updated song selection. But even with that, I am still hoarse for days after going.

This has long been my favorite video store in Austin. You have to get used to the way they organize things, and ask for help if you need it. Don't go in looking for strictly Hollywood new releases, because you're unlikely to find them. The staff here is knowledgable and cool, but they know they're cool, which isn't a plus. I once had one try to talk me out of renting a movie that was really bad, even after my boyfriend and I tried to explain we were renting it BECAUSE it was really bad. I could do without the film snob thing, but I'll keep going (until I give over my life to Netflix).

I have been lucky flying on Southwest Airlines for the most part. They have not lost my luggage, and my flights have never even been delayed, which is amazing. Of course, the real reason to fly with them is the affordability. Their flight staff is generally pleasant, however I occasionally get annoyed with their pre and during flight antics. The hammy stuff seems to be part of the Southwest experience and image, but it can get a bit annoying early in the morning or on a trip with several legs.

As someone who lives in Texas, I really appreciate my trips to NYC for many reasons, one being that I get to shop and stock up at H&M. I never have trouble finding clothes here that fit, are affordable, and are cute as well. I have referred men, pregnant women, and others who are visiting the area to H&M, and I am still being thanked today. My only complaint is that they don't really carry shoes...I've seen a pair or two here, but that's it. I can't imagine how much I'd spend if they did...

I was lucky enough to be sent here with a friend for her birthday. I had never been to a high end spa before, and I was a bit uncomfortable with the idea, but I was very impressed. We made use of their lovely, quiet pool and sauna indoors. I had two treatments, a full body massage and a facial. Both services were outstanding and relaxing. We had lunch in their cafe, and their food, though spa food, was very good. Now I'm just trying to figure out a way to get sent back. I may have to shell out the fee myself when I'm ready to reward myself for something.

A lovely, well priced store that carries lots of trim, traditional and more funky or vintagey fabric suitable for home decor and light upholstery. The location is great, it's in sort of an older shopping center (home of the new Alamo Drafthouse South) with lots and lots of parking. The store is clean, well-lit and easy to get around in - plus the staff is very helpful and obviously knows what they're talking about. If you're planning on making some pillows or even something a bit more advanced, I definitely recommend this as a starting point. Have fun!

My understanding is that everything in this boutique is made in Austin. It's a fun store, mainly carrying trendy apparel and accessories. I have seriously lusted after a rather expensive necklace made by a local artist I later met there. The only issue I have with the store, is that it's hard for me to spend money on the sort of DIY things there - because I really could make them myself. However, it's worth checking it out, especially if you aren't a crafty person.

I typically stop at Austin Java on Barton Springs on my way to work and have coffee or breakfast. It's a very nice place to sit and read, use your laptop, basically hang out or get things done by yourself. It's also a great place to meet for lunch or dinner, though I have to say of all the food I've tried I like their breakfasts and desserts (and coffee) best. I've found that their other entrées looks better than they taste. Not that they're bad, just not as I good as I would expect. (like their turkey burger - too much bread involved) Of course, I've yet to try everything on the menu. They also show a movie on their back porch at 8 pm on Fridays, and they're open late.

I recently started going to Pink after reading some positive reviews of it elsewhere. I have been about three times since then, and I really love it. I brought in a photo of a hairstyle I liked and for the first time ever, it came out exactly like the photo. The prices for services are reasonable for a high quality (but hardly stuffy) salon. I even love the inside of the salon and little boutique where they carry locally made accessories. I recommend it completely if you're in the market for a new salon.

I have found that New Bohemia has far better prices than a lot of other kitschy retro stores in Austin. As another reviewer mentioned, their jewelry is especially reasonable (and fabulous too if retro is your thing). They also have a wide selection of housewares, handbags, shoes, clothes for men and women, and just general knick-knacks. I also love that it's connected to Parts and Labour - it makes the place feel all the more customer friendly. It's no secret at this point; I even saw the designers from Trading Spaces shopping there while there were in town filming. Vern Yip and I both think this place is great!
