I love the idea (and location) of STA, however when I was a student I really found that I could find better deals by doing the research and booking the trips myself. The staff here is great and nice to talk to - and the brochures in the office are helpful and inspire travel. I know travel agents have a hard time now because of the availbility of good prices on the internet, so I hate to say don't use one...but if you're a student and your main concern is price, you can probably do better yourself.

The last time I went to Baby Acapulco's my friend had her purse stolen by a pair of scumbags that were hanging out on the patio, and that was enough to keep us from ever going back. However, truthfully we should have stopped going before that happened. The food here is not good - it's hard to screw up chips and salsa (or queso), but as far as actual entrees, I've never had anything I was impressed with. Besides that, the service varies from pleasant to downright obnoxious (as do the crowd that tends to gather here).

Wow, I don't even know how many years I drove by this store, admiring the different bookcases they displayed outside before I finally went in. It was a long time. And now that I have been, I can say it's a great store. The staff is very friendly and they know what they're doing. The range in prices is great, and they can customize existing stock or build something for especially suited for your needs. If only I needed another bookcase.....

This is by far the largest costume shop in Austin, and it's the greatest fun to visit or shop. It gets very, very crowded near Halloween, so if you need a costume for a party go early or be prepared to put up with the crowds. As far as the costumes, you can rent of buy, and the prices are very reasonable. The variety in costumes and sizes available is huge - you will find what you're looking for or perhaps something better. They also have a section dedicated to accessories like wigs, makeup and other things you might need to make your costume a smashing success.

Paper Bear has been in San Marcos a long time, and once you've been it's easy to see why. This is a huge shop that carries everything fun - stickers, paper, cards, gifts, toys, etc. This is the kind of place that would be driven out of business by a larger corporate stores if it were in a larger town and I'm so glad that hasn't happened. If you live in the area or are passing through San Marcos, I definitely recommend it.

Herbert's was truly my favorite Mexican food restaurant in San Marcos. It's family run - my water glass was often brought to me or filled by someone who couldn't have been over the age of 10. The dishes are generous in size and very good. Also, they have a vegetarian section in their menu which is unusual for a Mexican food restaurant in a smallish town in Texas. Defnitely try this if you're in the area.

My mom drags me here whenever I come to College Station to visit. It's cute and homey, and the meals are filling and yummy. The fare is mainly soup, sandwiches, salads, and baked goods but the variety and selection is very good. Also, the bread is good – it seems to be homemade. I recommend Must Be Heaven if you're in the area.

I was referred to Bradz New Talent Salon by a friend, and I was pleased with both of my visits there. It is located in a smallish house/salon near the larger the one and the prices are much lower ($20 is my recollection). The stylist I had both times was friendly and professional. The only reason I stopped going was I've decided I'm not a huge fan of Aveda products, which they use exclusively.
Also, I discovered you can make an appointment via the regular Bradz website, just request a "new talent" appointment when you make the request.

Honestly I've never understood the popularity of Guero's. The location and interior of the restaurant itself is the best feature of the restaurant, but I wish they'd clear out Guero's and put a restaurant with better food inside (not going to happen, I know). I like their tamales, but absolutely everything else I've had has been disappointing or downright inedible (a taco salad covered in greasy gristle - um, no thanks). Their drinks (other than beer) are not impressive either. I know this is where celebrities stop when they're on South Congress - I'm still really puzzled.

Jamba Juice has a great variety of smoothies. I am especially impressed by their lighter versions and the newer ones that are all fruit (allows you get five servings of fruit in one glass). They are rather expensive, however if you have one for breakfast or lunch, it's really not that much. They just opened a new branch near my office, and I'm very pleased.
