Subways is a dependable, if unexciting fast food option. I think that their menu choices are generally healthier than McDonalds or Taco Bell, particularly if you choose well and steer away from the cheese-drenched meatball sub. In addition to their various sub sandwiches, they also carry a couple of wrap and salad selections. Sides include your basic bagged chips and cookies, and drinks are primarily limited to soft drinks, juices and water. I like the new break flavors that they came out with a while back, especially the asiago cheese.

Hobby Lobby is fairly similar to Michael's in the size and selection they have. I've been to the Englewood Parkway location several times to pick up supplies, and have usually found what I needed there. They have a medium-sized fabric department and plenty of needlework supplies and kits. The silk flower and home decor department is pretty good too. The back wall has instruction books and patterns for many different types of projects. Parking is ample in front of the store.

This Cherry Creek organic and natural foods grocery store is a veritable mecca of all things organic, holistic and natural. The layout of the store is very appealing and sumptuous. Just walking in the door makes you feel a little more healthy. They also have a Jamba Juice kiosk at the front of the store and some cafe tables for eating at. The checkers are friendly, and they even have chair massages available at certain times.
The deli has an amazing array of tasty pre-made dishes. The fish and meats are exceptionally fresh, and the butcher will do special cuts if you ask. The main drawback of this place is the price - you are getting a premium shopping experience here and premium products and you will pay for that. The produce seems especially high to me, but that really isn't a surprise. It is worth a stop for a special item, but I don't expect this place will ever become my everyday grocery store.

I've had pretty good luck with the Jefferson road location of Kinko's. They seem to be the only one in the area that is open longer hours, and their business center area is large. I've had bindings put onto several booklets here, and they have always done it exactly the way I requested with a reasonable turn-around time. The bindings are very overpriced though: they charge over $5 for a basic coil binding on a 8.5 x 11 booklet!
The store is clean, and the copy machines seem to be well maintained. They also do posters, signs, faxes and larger print jobs. There is adequate parking in front and to the west side of the building.

I love Indian buffets, and we are so lucky to have several good ones in Rochester. It almost makes up for the weather here. Welllll... nope, not quite.
Anyway, Thali of India is awesome. Not only do they have about twenty different main dishes on their buffet along with zesty Indian relish and other condiments, they also bring fresh bread and dosas to your table. Most of the tables seat two or four people, however so it might be a little bit tricky to bring a large group here. They also have a decent wine list if you want more to drink than the complimentary Masala tea.

Bubble tea (also known as boba tea) is a fun beverage that comes in almost unlimited flavors. Originally from Taiwan, it has recently become popular in the US- especially on college campuses. The unique thing about it is that it has pea-sized "bubbles" of chewy tapioca at the bottom. You drink it through and extra-wide straw, and every so often a tapioca bead pops into your mouth and surprises you. Trust me, it is fun once you get used to it
K.C. Tea & Noodles Restaurant is one of only a couple places in Rochester that I know of where you can get bubble tea. They make it in three ways - traditional, milky or "shredded ice" (which means Slurpee style.) You can also order the traditional flavors as hot tea if you prefer. They have an amazing array of unusual flavors including Chrysanthemum, Honeydew, Ginseng and Avocado. Traditionalists will appreciate the more familiar flavor choices like Chocolate Milk Shake, Strawberry and Peach.
The restaurant is quite small and has seating for ten to twelve customers at counters. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They also offer a small menu of appetizers, soups, noodle dishes, stir fries and sushi. Their lunch special is $4.95, served 11AM-3PM. Dinner prices are in the $6.50 to $9.50 range. Besides bubble tea, the beverage choices also include beer, wine and soda.

Michael's is a popular choice for arts & craft supplies. They have four store in the Rochester area, but the Henrietta location is the one I've been to most frequently. The problem is that I somehow always seem to be looking for an unusual or odd item, and they don't carry it. I'm not sure why that happens, because they certainly have a large inventory of most every craft item you could think of. It can be a little tricky to get help from the staff sometimes too.
I also had a piece framed by their framing department not too long ago. They did an excellent, very professional job but I was surprised at the cost. I haven't had anything custom-framed before, so I guess I wasn't aware of the typical price. If anyone knows of a more affordable place for custom framing, please let me know!

The large Wegman's location on Monroe Ave in Pittsford is affectionately known as the "Super Wegman's" or sometimes the "Disney Wegman's." It is truly huge, and offers almost everything you could need in the course of your average week. The produce section is large and carries many exotic items along with the standards. (Although, I was dismayed to learn they were out of fresh ginger on a recent visit. I'm sure thats an anomaly.) They bakery and meat/seafood sections are large and very well stocked. In the middle of the store is a mini-housewares department with some cooking gadgets, cookware and dishware. I was amazed to see that they carry high quality brands like All-Clad and Le Creuset!
Despite having a huge parking lot, it can be hard to find a spot at peak shopping hours. The store also gets quite crowded at times, and can be hard to get around. However, it is a great place to shop if you go during off hours. (i.e.- avoid Saturday mornings and weekdays 5-7PM)

First Rate Deli is conveniently located on East Avenue near Swan St. downtown. The sandwiches here are slightly overpriced, but tasty and filled with fresh ingredients. All of the sandwiches have cheesy names like "Peace and Harmony" or "Sweetness" but it doesn't affect the taste, so don't let that bother you. A good selection of chips, cookies, soda and a few different beers is offered, plus a few convenience store items. Don't bother with the coffee - it is terrible. Take a close look at the main guy at the counter - he looks like Emmett Smith! Seating is limited with two tables plus a counter to eat at. Additional tables are added outside in warm weather. Limited street parking.

French Roast is a great continental-style bistro on the Upper West Side. They are open 24-hours and have charming decor (note the pressed-tin ceilings). They have serve breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch, dinner and over-night menus. They also have a full bar, and great coffee/ espresso. This place is a particularly popular spot to end up after an evening of bar hopping. The lunches are also quite good, and reasonable priced. Dinner prices range from $12-30 for entrées. The french onion soup is excellent, as are desserts. In nice weather there is also outdoor cafe seating which is perfect for people watching. You'll enjoy being a part of the eclectic crowd that eats at the French Roast.
