I love this produce market. It reminds me of what Stanley's on Elston used to be like before the parking lot was littered with SUV's and BMW's illegally parking in the handicapped spaces. At any rate, the store is small, the quality of the produce is good, and they have a great deli counter in the back. And I must admit, they make some of the best guacamole I've ever had. They also have some convenience items, like breads, dairy, nuts, spices and some sweets.

I love my dry cleaner. My clothes always come back clean, well pressed, and I've never had anything ruined. They do great alterations, and the husband and wife are always so pleasant and nice. Their English is only so-so, but they have others that work there that can help them translate if they need help, and its never been a problem. They are a pleasure to do business with.

Love this place. The decor is very modern, with lots of stainless steel and blue accents. There is a cool sushi bar that you can sit at, with a gorgeous mosaic tile backsplash. Their sushi is very fresh, and they have some really creative special sushi rolls that are always really tempting. Some have very uncharacteristic ingredients, such as pine nuts. They also have some interesting mixed drinks that'll knock you flat, including a sake martini. This is a great option for a birthday or anniversary, but its also come as you are. You'll see people dressed in jeans and as well as some that are more dressy. Come as you are, as long as you're stylish.

This has been a favorite hangout for a number of years, especially since the old Tuman's closed (before the remodel.) Its a typical Chicago bar...dark, smoky, but a great intimate hangout place with a good juke box. There's also a pool table in back. The drinks are still pretty well priced, and they always have a good special. Last night was $4 Blue Moon. Works for me.

I've seen some incredible shows over the years here, ranging from the cover theme nights they used to do (I seem to recall a Prince night and a Depeche Mode/New Order night) to seeing Elliott Smith alone with just him, a chair and his guitar. I love the intimate feel of the place, and the sound is really pretty decent. I have also really been digging the Handmade Market they have been doing every third Saturday. I've picked up some great, handmade items that are reasonably priced.

I've eaten here a number of times, and the food is pretty consistently good. They usually have a pretty interesting brunch selection, and I like that they offer a variety of food options, including vegetarian, healthy and comfort food. My only complaint is that its hard to get a table for brunch on the weekends, and you have a lot of "squatters" that take up the tables too long. However, I have been there once when they encouraged someone who just wanted coffee to give up their table for someone who wanted to eat. They did it in a nice way without offending the person, which was cool. Only other complaint is the service is a little slow, which can be painful if you're really hungry to begin with. But overall, its good enough to keep going back to.

Unassuming liquor store in Hyde Park. Recently renovated, although its not in the same league as Binny's or Sam's. However, they actually have a pretty decent wine selection, and I've never been steered wrong on a recommendation from their staff. The checkout line moves pretty slow, so be prepared to be patient, even if there are just a few people in line. But the staff overall is friendly and helpful.

I've belonged here for about a year now, and overall its fine. I got a great deal when I signed up ($550 for 18 months), but the guy was kind of a jerk when I signed up. Really rushed my friend and I through the tour, complained about being sick, lots of attitude when I asked questions. But the gym itself is really nice. Always enough lockers in the locker rooms, and I never have to wait for a cardio machine. I've only done a few classes, so can't really comment there. And the pool looks nice, although I haven't used it. Its a pretty specific age range of people, which is kind of weird (early 20's through mid 40s). One nice thing is you can park for free for 2 hours in the lot. Overall it's okay, not great. One other thing I'm not crazy about is they occasionally offer a "free" personal training session. They don't actually do any training, they just do a total analysis of your body type, exercise habits, body alignment, then give you a hard-pressure sell on signing up for training.

Just had my first haircut here at the Wicker Park location. I thought it was fabulous. When I called to make my appointment, they asked me what my hair texture was and offered two stylists as recommendations. I have long, fine hair, and the stylist was amazing. She sat with me and really examined my hair before we got started, and didn't try to recommend a bunch of things I didn't want. I came out feeling like a million bucks, even though the haircut only ran $52 (before tip). It was a really great experience.
