Of course I've heard good things about the Automobile Club for years, but I didn't join until a few months ago. Simple enough, really, but then I went in to inquire about their insurance services. I switched from Mercury, upping the coverage on our house and 2 cars, and STILL saved money! WOW! The staff was very helpful and I highly recommend this office and their services. They're open on Saturdays, too, which is very convenient.

Wherever you're at, Starbucks is consistent. This location is used to the commuter rush in the mornings and they will expertly field your customer drink orders with a smile. The downside? The quality of the pastries leave something to be desired--they tend to be on the dry side. But if you're hankering for breakfast, there's a bagel shop just a few doors away.

I moved to Ladera Ranch over four years ago, and our local shopping center's "coming soon" sign announced Pacific Whey long before the building was constructed. As of March 22, the wait is over! If you haven't been to their location in Newport Beach, you don't know what you've been missing! The food is fabulous, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner you're in the mood for. Desert, on the other hand, will knock the experience through the roof. A must try--you'll be hooked! Located near zPizza at Crown Valley and Antonio Parkway.

Good ol' 31 flavors serves up a yummy selection of ice cream, ice cream cakes, pre-packed pints, and frozen yogurt. Of course I grew up never spending this much on ice cream, but the quality is excellent--I'm a huge fan of their mint chip variety. The location is great if you've just grabbed dinner at one of the local joints to take a stroll as you window shop (or shop-shop!).

The carne asada torta is probably my favorite. Taco-Tuesdays offer discounts at dinnertime, but the menu is already affordable. Fast and fresh! Cash-only, this location does have an atm on site if you come unprepared.

The prices are reasonable--even better than your average Petco or Petsmart price. The staff is friendly and helpful. This store IS the cat's pajamas! Check it out: located across from Bristol Farms at Kaleidoscope. Current hours: Mon-Fri 9am-9pm, Sat 9am-8pm, Sun 9am-7pm.

What a wonderful group of people working at this branch of Union Bank of California. The tellers are very helpful, as is the entire staff. I was especially impressed with their investment services. Leroy Born has a small number of bank branches he works with and therefore provides highly personalized service--he is at this branch a couple times a week or can meet with you by appointment. He is extremely personable and helped me with my IRA account, explaining everything very clearly. Give them a try if you want a great bank with that small-town-get-to-know-you appeal.

When I learned Z Pizza was coming into the quaint neighborhood of Ladera Ranch, I was thrilled! In fact, I just ordered one of their custom organic creations and my mouth is watering in anticipation. The lunch special is an awesome deal if you're just stopping in. The price of the custom pizzas is a little high, but you pay for what you get--high quality, without the extra oil dripping off the sides! They also serve delicious sandwiches, salads, and calzones. Check it out!

Fabulous blackened fish tacos, vegetarian options, open late, the best guacamole on earth (fresh diced avocado, onion, cilantro, tomatoes)--I just can't say enough! They'll only offer "mild, medium, or hot" sauce when you pick up your order, but ask for the green "salsa verde" if you like medium hot: by far the most flavorful of the three (ok, I haven't tried the hot...I'll admit it). Make it part of your afternoon in Laguna Beach--you won't regret it!

They quickly get to know your name: Michelle runs the register most of the time and Richard is on kitchen duty. Closed Sunday & Monday, but otherwise open early until about 4pm if memory serves. Excellent fresh-baked bread for sale, along with delectable sandwiches with fresh meats, cheeses, and tastes-like-homemade condiments (all available on their bread, of course!). Excellent deserts and pastries are on display for purchase or you can special order, too. A must try!
