I've been here twice, and truly it's more of a novelty than anything. Genki Living is a fun place to grab good dessert crepes. Cooked to a crisp (nearly overdone) and served cone-like in a cup, you can choose your fillings: up to 3 fruits, with or without Nutella, with or without ice cream. It's a fun place for the kitsch factor (it looks like a train station, with "subway cars" built into the length of the wall). If you go not expecting authentic French crepes, you'll be happy. They also have sandwich-type savory crepes and other non-dessert menu items AND they're open late--don't be fooled by the empty parking lot! Located at the corner of Jeffrey and Irvine Center Drive, just across/near the Irvine Valley College campus.

Wow. Let me tell you, it took a long time for me to find a stylist I was truly happy with. Alyssa Maston is Awesome and I've been going to her now for about 2 years now. She had done cut & color on my hair and I've been thrilled every single time I've gone. She also cuts my husband's hair. If you're looking for a stylist, ask for an appointment with Alyssa: you won't be disappointed! I drive half an hour to see her and it's completely worth it. Templeton's is closed on Mondays.

Occasionally I've had my doubts about this restaurant, which again is one of those that my husband LOVES to go to and I've been rather ambivalent. Last night changed that for me. Recent changes to the menu have left me jonesing for the next time we dine there: they've made significant changes. Friday night was slammed, though, and dinner took about 2 hours total (to get the bad news out of the way first). We were lucky to be seated: reservations would've been smart. Weekdays are better in that sense because seating is limited. The live music was nice, but the hard floors tend to amplify the sound and it was difficult to carry on a conversation. THE GOOD NEWS: fantastic food. And their wine list is excellent. They offer flights which allow you to sample four wines: definitely a wonderful way to explore wine if you don't have a lot of experience.
Overall, I am definitely looking forward to going there again. It'll probably be on a weekday though.
Extra info: open for lunch, they have excellent pizza, and they deliver (their entire menu!).

...because after you eat here, you're going to be able to hear the garlic and onion seeping out of your pores! Ha! This place has AMAZING food, fast & friendly service, and ample dining space (though parking can be tricky if I recall correctly). Lines do form, but move fairly quickly with the quick service and table turnover. I've always gotten the slow roasted pork or the garlic chicken. Wow. Prepare to become garlic-onion-infused!

This is the best place to buy sheet music in Orange County. The staff is helpful, and the selection of sheet music for piano (what I shop for) is fabulous. They carry premium versions: Urtext, Henle, Paderewski (which I prefer, and my teacher requires) and what they don't have in stock, they can special order. Be careful--it's a little hidden in the shopping center, sort of behind the main strip mall area. Located next to West Coast Drum Center. There is a satellite store in San Juan Capistrano on Camino Capistrano. Yeah!

I've been to the Costa Mesa location: awesome. So, I thought when I walked into this restaurant to order, I had a certain quality and expectation in mind. Imagine my disappointment when I got my carne asada tacos: the portion was small, the meat charred and chewy and fatty. Bummer! Well, that's what happened with different cooks & managers. Now I understand why it doesn't get very busy at lunchtime. :(

...is just about all I can say about this CVS Pharmacy. The staff seems to be limited, and though I have been there at varying times of day, there is either one person at the register, or nowhere to be found. So, the service is just ok, but apart from that, the benefits of having a store open 24 hours are great. The store is neat, clean, well-stocked, and hardly ever busy. If you're looking--they have a surprisingly well-varied selection of beer (domestic and "good" beer--like Newcastle) if you've got a late night party and you run out!

I think I ordered the garlic lemon chicken wings last time I was there and if you're in the mood for finger food, be prepared to dig in and get messy. It's like tapas for All-American country cuisine. The more people you invite, the more food you get to try, so bring a bunch! You can't go wrong here: the food is uniquely flavorful and the atmosphere is relaxed. Perfect for grabbing a snack before the movies.

I happened upon a bag of scones from the Village Bakery at my husband's office a few days ago, and I couldn't believe how amazing it was: very moist (something hard to come by in this type of pastry) and delicately sweetened. Finally I got to see the place in person and enjoy a sampling of cookies. I'm not sure if it's just because it was a quiet Sunday afternoon, but the selection was slight, and the cookies, though delicious, had a sort of strange aftertaste. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was not altogether pleasant and seemed to dominate the flavor of the three different cookies I tried: the "oreo", the chocolate chip, and the sugar cookie. I was disappointed, but my husband swears by it and so I'm willing to give it another try.

Havana has been at the top of my "date night" restaurants for a long time because of the vibey atmosphere: dim lighting, lots of candles, and overall warm decor. Their dishes are medium-priced in the upper teens or low twenties (if I remember correctly). My absolute favorite dish is the El Puerco Primo (not available at lunch): fried pork on top of greens and mashed potatoes and plantains. They have a great bar and their patio is a great place to enjoy a night with friends (or a date). The inside can be a bit noisy at times, but the food makes up for any lost conversation. Outstanding! Also open for lunch, with a slightly different menu.
