We don't have cats but we have had very skittish dogs. We've used Jean Townsend for a long time and I think she's great, very loving and patient with the dogs. She only does house calls, which i think is much easier on the patients---no car ride, no being dragged into that familiar-smelling house of torture.

She does have the use of another vet's facility if she needs to do surgery or other in-office care. But all routine stuff is done at the pet's home.

Kirchmayr Chocolatier is located on Deereco Road in a kind of industrial park setting but don't let that throw you. These are as fine as any chocolates you will get anywhere! They have lovely seasonal things like chocolate bunnies, scrumptious chocolate covered strawberries in the spring, and all kinds of delights on a regular basis. One of my favorites is the Earl Grey tea creams. Milk chocolate and tea may sound like an odd combo but it has a very delicate flavor that is very appealing (not too sweet).
I had some marzipan from here recently that wasn't very good but I think that's the only thing that I've ever gotten that wasn't pretty much perfect. Presentations are also just lovely and perfect for gift-giving.

Joann's used to be mostly fabrics years ago but the emphasis has shifted to crafts and home decor stuff. This store is smaller than most and the sheer abundance of STUFF in it can be overwhelming. They are always getting new seasonal stuff in and the previous stuff gets marked down drastically to move it out. The store is often messy though they seem to be getting better at keeping stuff off the floor. The aisles are narrow and lighting is inadequate in some areas. Service is very spotty and depends entirely on who happens to be on duty at any given moment. Some workers have some grasp of what the store stocks and others seem fairly clueless. I am often asked to explain what the thing I'm buying is used for, but I don't go in there expecting great service.
They have an adequate stock of fabrics but don't expect to find anything really special. Their 40% coupons and regular sales make it worth visiting.

Pacific Rim has a nice variety of Asian cuisine dishes on their menu along with a sushi menu. I've yet to get anything bad here, unless you count the red bean ice cream for dessert once (pass on that---grainy texture, odd taste). Their sushi is very good. The layout is nice with the space divided into smaller areas by half walls which give you a more intimate and quieter dining experience. Service is quick and attentive. They also do carry-out with a minium of waiting. Location and parking are convenient.

Oh, my---what can I say? If you like real Italian foods, you must try Mastellone's. They make mozzarella cheese daily, both salted and unsalted, and it is impeccably fresh. Once you have it you can never go back to that stuff that sits around in the supermarket for days before it's sold.
They have an excellent selection of other cheeses including huge wheels of Parmesan Reggiano, the usual sausages and hams and other cured meat, pasta shapes and flavors you won't see anywhere else, and all kinds of sauces and condiments. The aroma is heavenly. Did I mention fresh Italian bread? And sweets?
Parking is a pain but SO worth it. Service is friendly and quick.

I go to Blank's mostly for upholstery supplies and to at least look at their upholstery fabrics. They have tools and materials that Joann's employees can't even identify, let alone stock. Some of the fabrics are very high quality with steep discounts and their selection of neutrals is especially nice.
Their upholstery foam is much better quality than the stuff you get at Joann's and i think is lower in price, plus their selection of sizes is greater.
They have a lot of garment fabrics too and their special occasion fabrics are supposed to be good but I haven't been able to find what I want there yet. It's worth a look, though.
Service is very iffy. I've asked for very specific things and was told they don't carry them and then I found the stuff on my own in the store. Some employees are nice but the older gentlemen (owners?) are not very friendly and do not go out of their way to help.

This store is a little hole-in-the-wall from the outside but inside you will find some very high end fabrics at rock bottom prices. There's also a fair amount of junky fabric so you have to know what you're looking for and you have to be patient. The upholstery fabrics are mostly mill ends and it can be hard to find lengths bigger than a few yards, but what they do have often retails for $75 per yard or more and is trade-only. Their prices range from 99 cents a yard up to maybe $20 or so with most of it under $10.
They also have a smallish selection of dress fabrics, some fancy stuff, some gorgeous wools for dirt cheap prices, lots of trims and millinery supplies, and whole cowhides for garments or upholstery. FUN shopping for fabricholics!
Parking is ample. Service is generally good. You're on your own for browsing, which I like---no hard sell.

A Fabric Place is where to shop for luxury fabrics. They have a whole room of wools that are to die for, another room of silks, another with the best button selection in town, and I think another room or two, plus the huge main area full of dress fabrics and a growing selection of upholstery fabrics.
Service is excellent and the store is usually not too busy. The mother and son who own the store are very friendly and helpful and they never seem to forget a face. The dog kennel next door is sometimes distractingly noisy when you're trying to concentrate on shopping but that's about my only complaint!

This I-Hop is conveniently located on York Road at Cranbrook near lots of other shopping. The menu is the usual I-Hop fare: breakfast served at all hours plus sandwiches and hot platters. The portions are on the big side and they are very generous with butter. Not a lot of low fat entrees. Service is good and the place is reasonably clean and tidy and not too busy most of the time. Parking is ample.
I would say that the best thing about this I-Hop is that you know what you're getting.

We've been to Macaroni Grill many times and have found their menu to be mostly good but with some weak spots. The Make Your Own Pasta usually works out very well; you get a checklist to fill out which is fun. The service can be annoying with waiters who try to be your best friend rather than just offering efficient and courteous service. We always have fun turning our paper table cover into a work of disposable art with the crayons they offer.
I HIGHLY recommend the chocolate cake with fudge sauce for dessert. One order is easily enough for two people or even three. Their cheesecake is also good.
