In general, I think Target is a fabulous store. Specifically, I think this Target Greatland is one of the best I’ve visited. It is just the right size – not as big as the giant Super Targets, but with more variety than the regular Targets. The Brier Creek location is very convenient and the store is still new, neatly organized and well-run.

Crazy Fire is one of my favorite restaurants. It’s essentially a make-your-own stir-fry place and I love it because you know exactly what is in your food. Not only do you choose your own ingredients, but you hand pick the items yourself. This way if you want three pieces of chicken and ten slices of zucchini, that’s what you get. Once you fill your bowl with the raw ingredients and top them with sauce you get to watch the cooks stir-fry your food for you on this enormous circular grill. The one downside is that you sometimes get flavors from other people’s food in your own (I discovered this when my husband used something very spicy in his and my food became seasoned this way as well). If you have allergies or food sensitivities of any kind, mention this to the cooks to be sure this won’t be an issue for you.

Crate and Barrel is my favorite kitchen store because not only do they offer everything you could possibly need for your kitchen, they have tons of things that you don’t really need but probably want anyway. While much of their merchandise is fairly pricey, they offer really good deals on the gadgets and smaller things for your home. I’ve been able to buy butter dishes and glass cruets at discount store prices.

Hollywood Video is our favorite movie rental store. They have this MVP program where for a monthly fee you can rent as many of their MVP movies (new releases that have been out a few weeks and all of their old movies) as you want, three at a time. We do this off and on as we see the movies we want to see then wait for a new crop to come out. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the movies we want to see are always available.

There is nothing more fun like spending a rainy day in an art museum. This one is no exception. Although it’s small, the North Carolina Museum of Art maintains a wonderful collection and there’s no admission fee (except for special exhibits). It’s a fun place to take the kids – all children should have the opportunity to learn to appreciate the fine arts.

Exploris is a really fun museum for children and adults who are young at heart. They have a changing series of exhibits so there is always something new and exciting to look at. The museum is better suited for older children, so if you have toddlers, you may want to bring them somewhere else. The IMAX theater is a huge draw and is worth a visit at least once.

Cracker Barrel is a fun, family-friendly restaurant that offers breakfast all day long. That’s the biggest draw for me as I think their breakfast menu has their best items on it. Their hash brown casserole is especially good. Cracker Barrel has a great country store attached to it where you can buy all sorts of novelties to keep the kids busy until their food arrives.

Barnes and Noble is the first place I think of when I want to go book shopping. Not only do they have a superior selection of books, the store terrific ambiance. It’s a relaxing place to go just to browse books – there are comfortable reading chairs scattered throughout the store. The only problem with this store is that I can never come home empty handed!

The Streets at Southpoint created tons of hoopla when it opened, jamming up traffic on I-40! It’s easy to see why – it’s big, it’s fancy, it’s the place to shop. This mall features many upscale stores, including the only Nordstrom’s in the area. It also has a fantastic sports-themed children’s play area. The mall is fun just simply to walk through as it was designed to look like storefronts on a street. The Christmas decorations are especially pretty.

We love going to the movies here because it’s so cheap! At just $1.50 a ticket, you can take two people to the movies for less than the cost of a movie rental AND get the experience of watching a movie on the big screen. The downside is you have to wait sometimes quite a while for a movie to make it to the theater and the bathrooms are probably the dirtiest I’ve ever seen, but for the price it’s well worth it!
