I walk by the someday cafe everyday and peer through the windows at the interesting crowd inside. The place has all the hallmarks of a college-y coffee house: It is decorated with local art, indie music is always playing, the counter-people look like bitter hipster 30-somethings, and the place is full of living-room beat-up couches and tables. The coffee is decent and the sweets are not so decent (at least the scones I've had there). It's a cool local hangout for coffee and chatting, but I don't recommend staying for long periods of time.

The Whole Foods gods shined upon me last week when my mother gave me a $50 gift card for whole foods. I came a few times for dinner and frollicked alongside the buffet aisles and glass cases filled with an array of sumptuous delights. Needless to say, I tried just about everything! This location has a GREAT salad bar selection. In fact it is the only one in MA I've seen with hot food items. My only complaint, not just with this location, but with all whole foods locations, are the prices. Once my gift card ran out, my shopping spree came to a halt :)

Nestled between Hemenway St and Westland in Fenway is a hidden gem of a restaurant, offering wood-ovened pizza and a nice beer selection. The prices are great and the pizza is different, usually involving a very thin crust and no sauce. You can personalize the pizza by picking whichever toppings, cheeses, or sauce you'd like, but beware of adding sauce, since it can overly soften the crust, making it a messy experience.

When I used to live in Fenway, it was a refreshing treat to walk over to Canestaro to get italian food. Beware of all the Fenway tourists though and opt to visit on a weekday. Their bread is great as well as their pizza and pasta. The pizza crust has a gourmet olive-oil taste to it, making it an interesting selection. The employees and service is normal and the atmosphere has a nice, warm glow to it.

I'm not a big comic reader, but I've actually been to a lot of comic stores in New England. It seems the ongoing trend for most are snooty workers, but this is not the case at New England Comics. Michelle, one of the major employees is bubbly and nice and always willing to help out comic newbies. She went our of her way to show me a bunch of comics, I as a female, might be interested in. In a comic world dominated by men, we need more New England Comics and Michelles to get more girls interested!

After I finished eating at this place and got up to leave, I half expected the employees to start giving me a round of applause. The people here are just that nice. The food isn't amazing, but it is better than many of the other Indian restaurants in Boston. Some of the dishes are a bit bland, but others are much better. If it's not that great the first time, come back and try something different.

While the free coffee and great location make Calumet hard to resist, in the end, the lack of employees, the nonnegotiable prices, and the limited selection, make calumet no competition to Hunts in Melrose in MA and BNH in NY. On the positive side, Calumet offers a wide range of rental options for professional photographers and a great number of educational workshops.

The difference between visiting this bar on a weekday and weekend is drastically different. On the weekdays, it is slow and quiet, and fun, live, irish music can be seen/heard. Even the workers are mostly irish, contributing to the bar's authentic irish vibe. The weekends though are another story. I visited once on a weekend and was charged $5 to get into a very, crowded bar filled with un-somerville-type bostonians. All in all though, this bar is a fun time. .

As we all know it isn't easy to rate a salon since not every stylist is the same. I went to salon luna after reading both bad and good reviews, but decided I'd give it a try. Everyone there is very nice and the location is very convenient, but the haircut I received was less than perfect. I actually actually ended up coming back the next day to get more trimmed off the back and they were very nice about it. After coming back the second time, my hair look a lot better (a bit uneven in the back), but for $50, I expect more.

I love all the trader joes locations, but this one used to be the closest one for me. This is a small location than the one in Brookline, but still has the same great products. I love the soy cheese, pumpkin seed bread, california veggie burgers, and soycatash. Those items have become our staples whenever we get a chance to do a trader joes run. This location can get pretty crowded on weekends and around rush-hour on the week-days, so I recommend going during non-peak hours to avoid playing bumper-baskets with other shoppers.
