Cafe Vittoria is the place to go for an authentic cappuccino or dessert in the north end. The small cafe is in an old building, so it has a great old-fashioned, elegant feel to it, from the metal ceilings to the old-timey coffee machines on display to the golden pillars. I recommend Cafe Vittoria over Mike's, if you're looking for a place to sit and drink some coffee. Mike's is a great place to buy the sweets and then leave, but Vittoria is great for lingering around awhile longer.

I've only been here once, but that one visit definitely made a strong impression of me. The Coffee house is a huge place consisting of an indoor AND outdoor area. It's like being in somebody's ultra cool backyard, covered in xmas lights, antique-y looking lawn furniture, and colors. I also loved their menu and the fact that they serve coffee AND alcohol. WHen I visit Austin again, I will definitely be back!

I love the look of Ikea, so when we finally got one here in MA, I was pretty excited. My husband's parents took us when they were in town (the had a rented car). The store is overwhelming - there is SO much stuff and if it is busy, that makes it even more confusing! I recommend going during a non-peak hour to insure a nonstressful shopping experience. Also, leave plenty of time for shopping, since the store is huge and full of many, many items. The prices there are great and you can even get there via public transporation (there is a bus that goes from the red line), although if you're buying large items, you will NEED a car. You will also need to set aside time to put together whatever you bought (if you purchase furniture). It is time consuming, but if you're trying to save money, well worth it!

This pizza place is near my home, so it is a very convenient option if you reside near teele or davis square. The pizza was fresh tasting - not burnt, not too much/too little cheese, and just the right amount of sauce. The service was very friendly, but even better were the prices. I recommend it if you're ever in the area and looking for some pizza at a very decent price.

I never expect a whole lot when eating chinese food unless I'm in china town, so I didn't really raise the bar for this restaurant. The food tasted like normal chinese food - generic, not amazing, but not bad. I went on a Sat night, so it was very busy, but getting a table for two was no problem. The servers were nice, the food didn't take too long, and the restaurant had a nice look. If you're ever in porter, I recommend giving this place a try. Come for lunch though when the prices are a bit less--dinner can get a bit pricey (they charge for rice, to give you an idea:).

McKinnons is one of those small meat grocersthat has been around for years. The customers are usually little old ladies and Somerville natives which always makes for an interesting shopping trip. Their selection is great and the price is even greater. The store is a little stinky and often crowded, but don't let that get in your way!

If I compare Anna's to fastfood, I'm able to say it's pretty good, but if I'm going to compare it with mexican food in general, I'd say it's pretty bad. It's fast, it's filling, it's cheap, and the portions are decent, but it's no more than that. The food isn't very fresh and never very hot, but if I'm hungry and don't wanna spend a lot of cash, it's a great little place.

Maybe not a slice of heaven, but it's still pretty good! This place is located a few blocks from my apartment and I walk by everyday smelling the sweet aroma of pizza. The pizza slices are thin and large - not too much sauce or cheese - A nice balance. The prices are good and the service is always very friendly. If you're ever in the area, I recommend dropping by.

A hidden little place over in Cambridge that serves unique little veggie delights. The prices are good and the atmosphere is crunchy. I ate a peanut tofu dish while there and listened to live hippy music. The food was very fresh tasting and the atmosphere was charming. Reminded me a lot of Amherst, MA. I recommend!

This is a giant, craft store way off the beaten path. The name "Play Time," gives off the impression they are a party store, but they are not. Actually, they are, but they are also a craft store, a hobby store, nd art store, a fabric store, and the list goes on. They have been around for over 50 years and carry literally everything craft-like you can think of. If you're ever in the Arlington area and in need of anything crafty or art-like, try Play Time. There's a large chance they will carry it!
