Home Depot is a great place to shop for all my home improvement needs. I always ask for gift certificates from Home Depot. I buy all my drill bits, wood and nails there. I also buy some cleaning products from time to time. In the spring, I can buy all of my favorite flowers, and the soil and compost they need to grow. The service is spotty sometimes, but it depends on the day of the week. Weekends are an absolute zoo, so I plan ahead. Prices are good, and so is the selection.

Pasta Pomodoro is my husband’s favorite place to eat out. The food is incredible, from the bread and pesto sauce to the dessert. I am on their email list, and they frequently send out coupons by email, and advertise their special menus. I have liked everything I have eaten there. I liked it so much, I catered a work meeting for lunch. Now everyone loves my meetings. The service is absolutely the best. The staff is always hip and friendly, and very upbeat. I will eat here for the rest of my life!

Mervyn's is an interesting place to shop. I do not go to this one regularly, mainly I frequent it during the holidays. I find their clothing in the plus size area to be pretty awful. The quality and fit is poor, and the selection is lacking. In the Junior department, however, there is a much better selection. I prefer Mervyn's for their accessories, lingerie and housewares departments. The lingerie is not exotic or anything, but you can get some solid deals on big name items. For the other 2 departments, I cruise the clearance areas and pick up socks, and placemats for low prices. Service is average, and there generally is not a crowd.

Souper Salad is an old standby for my family. The food is inexpensive, and generally pretty fresh. It can be a wild place though. On the weekends, there are folks from wall to wall. There is always a table full of toddlers, throwing food and screaming, but if you can deal with that, the rest is awesome. It is constantly being cleaned by staff, but because of the said toddlers, the dining are is always a mess. The food is constantly being refreshed, so there is never anything missing for very long at the buffet. I love their chicken soup. They used to have it consistently on Sundays, but something changed, and I have lost the date. Overall, if you are looking for a quick and cheap meal, this beats fast food hands down.

Marie Callender’s is a place I like to visit from time to time. The food is kind of generic American type stuff- comfort food, if you will. I especially like their Sunday brunches. When you are looking to eat like a maniac, try this. There is champagne and OJ, made to order omelettes, sausage eggs etc. There is also a pastry tray full of danish, muffins and cookies. You can eat until you explode. The service can be a little slow, as there is usually a crowd, but if you have time for a leisurely stuff festival, this is it.

On Sunday mornings there are people waiting outside, because there isn’t enough room in the waiting area for all of them. The service is usually pretty good, even when the place is busy. Nothing beats a cheese blintz!

Work of Artist’s is an incredible shopping experience. ( they are now located in Scottsdale at FLW and Scottsdale Rd., off the 101) Everything in the store is handcrafted by local artists. But this isn’t a giant flea market. The owner selects only the best of the best, and mixes it up into the perfect eclectic mix. I have been buying the handmade glass kaleidoscopes for the last few birthday parties I have been too. They were the talk of the party, and everyone else wanted one. The owner is polite and warm and is always accompanied by his trusty dog. The dog is behind the counter, but will pop his head up to look at you once in awhile. I love this store, and could easily buy everything in it, if I had the money and places to put it.

Kohl’s in the Desert Ridge shopping center is a place I like to shop from time to time. Overall I find their regular prices to be high, but when there are sales, the deal can be had. I have their credit card, and get coupons in the mail all the time. These are great bonuses. If you couple them with some clearance prices, you can get out of this world deals. The clothing tends to be a little generic, and often not very suitable for Phoenix, but for winter clothes, they have a nice selection. I prefer their home department. They have great bedding and bathroom items.

Bahama Breeze is another great place to dine in the Desert Ridge plaza. The menu is interesting, and there is something for everyone. Make sure you try their homemade lemonade, as it is a real treat. Appetizers are incredible, and can be meals in themselves. The atmosphere is festive an upbeat, and the décor is tropical. The service is great, and the prices are reasonable for what you are getting. This is a great place to take family and friends for a nice meal.

The Macaroni Grill is a great place to have a lunch or dinner. But go on a super empty stomach. From the bread to the dessert, you will love every minute of your meal. The service is great, and the servers are always full of personality and fun. The prices are pretty average, $8-$12 for most dishes. They are all delicious, and you will have a hard time choosing, guaranteed. We always bring family here, and then hit the shopping at Desert Ridge to burn off the calories.
