The jasmine tea is so fresh and all the food tastes fresh--more so than at the other Thai restaurants I frequent. I like the arrangement of the tables and rooms so it doesn't get too noisy to have a conversation like in many other places.
I especially liked when this past year or so they started offering brown rice and it was that red kind that is so tasty-kind of nutty.
I have taken practically all my out of town guests there repeatedly!

I used to go to this hardware store all the time when I worked nearby. The staff is helpful if not overly friendly. I found a lot of lightig and painting supplies I needed there.
They also have garden stuff and lots of tools.
The parking can be challenging but they are north of 47th so even though parking is hard on University Ave it's better up at that end.
The prices seemed really reasonable to me.

Twice Sold Tales just off Broadway on Capitol Hill has a ton of books--the science fiction section usually has a great selection.
The cat bridges above your head are novel but the cat boxes stick even though they are cleverly disguised.
The staff/owners has/have often been rude but then the next time almost friendly. They do seem at least to know what they ahve if you ask for a specific book.
And they are open pretty late.

I also love walking to Bailey Coy and knowing that I won't be overwhelmed by floors of selections but rather find an interesting assortment of books from Art to Cookbooks to Travel books to Kid's books to Metaphysical books to Science Fiction and everything else. All inside a shop that has very informed and helpful staff. I also love the reviews of books written by the staff and stuck to the shelf so you can get a person;s opinion of a book you may never have heard of.

I shop often at Stoneway Hardware. I find the guys in there to be friendly and respectful--they don't assume that since I am a woman I don't know anything. I appreciate that.
I have found plumbing supplies, doormats, electrical socket replacements, sandpaper, carpet tape, extension cords, weird sized and shaped screws and bolts, picture hanging hardware, etc.
I most appreciate the small size of the local hardware stores and try to use them whenever I can so they stay in business!

Granted I am the head instructor of Seven Star Women's Kung Fu but I can still recommend it.
If you are a woman looking for a place to try doing martial arts and would feel more comfortable in an all women's environment check us out.
You can take the 8 week beginner's cycle and see if it's for you. Or you can come to Try A Class Night which happens quarterly just before each beginner's cycle starts and see if you like it--you are likely to have a lot of fun. Check out the website for the next scheduled classes: 7starwomenskungfu.org
We teach the art of Kajukenbo Kung Fu and practice Street Fighting/Sparring/Forms/Basics/Punch Attacks etc. Call if you'd like to come by and watch a class.
We are a 501(c)3 non profit. We have a sliding scale for dues and scholarships available. We offer free childcare. All this to allow more women to train.
We are celebrating our 25th anniversary this year!!
We also offer self defense classes every quarter open to any women age 13 and older if you are interested in strictly self defense.
For men who are interested check out our neighbors Seattle Kajukenbo-they teach the same art and also have kid's classes.

I want to add my vote to shop your local independent coop. I have been a member of Madison Market for 25 years and have watched it grow larger and survive in an increasingly competitive market.
If you care about the environment and how your choices impact it then shopping at the coop is an easy way to make sure you are buying not only organically labeled food, but food that is actually produced with integrity. There are too many falsely organically labeled products out there and Madison Market at least screens out the ones they know about (I'm not sure about the lotions/soap products in that respect).
Fresh Seafood, meat section and a great bulk foods section. The produce section is really great in my opinion. Parking garage and elevator are other pluses if you drive.

I took my cars to Clinton Auto Repair for years before getting a Toyota Prius. I agree that one of the best things about them was that they didn't do unnecessary repairs. Also they referred me to other good businesses for repairs that weren't their specialty. They are also willing to come out and have a look at what's wrong with your car (if you stopped by) and let you know how long it would take to fix and when they can fit it in (without charging for the consultation).
I highly recommend them--friendly and honest pricing too!

I would like to recommend Rainy Pass Repair, Inc. for repairs and alterations/modifications on outdoor clothing and equipment. I worked there for 14 years and know that they can fix a lot of things that you might otherwise think need to be thrown away.
Does your zipper on your coat/backpack/tent separate open when you try to zip it closed? You might just need a new zipper pull!
Do you want a second door added to your tent? A water bottle pocket added to your pack?
The prices may seem high for alterations and modifications but they are based on what it takes to have all the equipment/tools/supplies and years of expertise to fix or alter your item. Check them out--you can get an estimate up front. They have moved to a new location at 4415 Stone Way North in Wallingford.(They are under Tutta Bella Restaurant.)
