My husband and I recently visited Ponti to celebrate his PhD defense. We were seated promptly outside and that was the only part of meal that was prompt. Our waitress took our drink and dinner orders, then disappeared for an hour. The table next to us had finished nearly finished their entree by the time we got our appetizer. our watiress pointed out to the gentleman that his martini was almost gone, and did he want another, while we were both sitting with empty glasses. Maybe this restaraunt isn't used to younger dinner (we're in our mid twenties), but I thought they could have done a better job. While the food was good it was way overpriced. My husband ordered king crab, and got one leg for $36. While I loved sitting right next to the water, I won't return to this restaraunt again.

I recently ordered a sheet cake from Borracchini's. It surpassed all of my expectations. Their website was very straightforward, so when I called to place the order I knew exactly what information to give. The cake was surprisingly inexpensive ($42 for a full sheet) and absolutely delicious. My only complaint was that their estimations are very generous. We had over half of the cake left after serving huge pieces to about 70% of their estimate. Luckily we really like cake!

Cyber Dogs is a great place to grab a quick bite in downtown. Their menu is pretty impressive for a place that only sells hot dogs. All the dogs are vegetarian, and many are vegan, but even the most ardent meat lover might have a hard time telling the difference if they don't know. Service is quick and quirky, with internet access available while you eat. The owner is very sweet and outgoing. She might even help you meet your mate. This is definately not your basic hotdog stand. Try the doggie lama, it's enlightening!

Capitol Music in downtown is a wonderful music store. THey carry a good selection of sheet music, from classical to pop to band and choir. There are rooms available to play through pieces before purchase, and if they don't have what you're looking for, the staff will help you to find it in a catalog or online and order it for you, with the option of shipping it to your address. They sell and rent instruments as well as supplies. I have been extremely happy with Capitol Music.

Fuel on 19th Ave E is a great new local coffeeshop. The coffee is reasonably priced and they do have a few pastries for the sweet tooth as well. The place has WIFI and they have a couple of small tables outside for when the weather is nice. Dog friendly as well. Overall is a fun little coffeeshop, a welcome change from the everpresent shadow of starbucks.

Pacific Fabrics and Crafts has a wonderful selection of quilting fabrics. They also have a large selection of special occassion fabrics and specialty yarns. The Northgate location doesn't have a great selection of patterns, and not many notions, but if you're looking for some beautiful fabric or lace, this should be your first stop. They do have a small section for general apparel fabric, but it's more of a specialty store for calicos and more formal wear. A great choice for weddings.

Blue Water Bistro is a fun place for drinks or food. They have a big patio with space heaters, so you can enjoy the fresh air even when it's cold outside. It's a popular nightspot for the 20-something crowd. The appetizers are tasty, and the chocolate fondue is great to share with a group of people.

The B & O has some of the best desserts in Seattle. Whether you like fruity or chocolatey, cake or pie, they've got something for you. Prices are a bit high, but comparable to other local dessert specialties. They're also open late for desserts, drinks and food. The menu is tasty if a bit overpriced. Good ambience for the quirky Capitol Hill area.

Bailey-Coy is an excellent independent book seller. The staff is always helpful. If a book isn't in stock, it can be ordered. They also have readings and a good, if small, selection of magazines. Knowing the quote of the day is a great way to get 10% off of your book. They also sell leftovers at ridiculously low prices. Gift wrapping is free.

The Kingfish is a great, cozy restaurant for southern food. The menu is very simple and very tasty. The wine list is good, if not spectacular, but the specials are generally worth it. Weeknights tend to be less crowded than the weekend. It's a pretty relaxed restaurant with a bar in one side. Be careful not to side right next to the door to avoid a chill.
