When I saw coupons for Pisces Lounge and Restaurant, Cornwall-on-Hudson's newest culinary offering, I was swayed to finally check the place out. Several restaurants housed in this space on Hudson Street have gone out of business almost as quickly as they appeared, so my husband and I were hesitant to try the newest incarnation.
However, we left happy. I had broiled scallops while my husband tried a pasta dish. Pisces is largely a seafood restaurant and has a very fresh selection, with specials changing regularly. My scallops came with a delicious side of mashed potatoes and some grilled seasonal vegetables, for a little under $19. A glass of sauvignon blanc completed the meal.
I'd definitely return, as the food was well worth the trip, but I hope the owners make an effort to make the facility their own. The decor shows little difference from the previous restaurant housed there, Opa (a Greek place that we also enjoyed). When we walked in, we were the first dinner patrons on a Friday evening, and the waitstaff was sitting in the lounge watching television.
I do hope, though, that Pisces gets off the ground and becomes a success. Coupons are in the latest Clipper magazine (distributed in Orange County), so give this place a try.

Tuscan Pizza Grille is yet another Italian restaurant in Newburgh, a community that has plenty of Italian offerings. Nonetheless, this restaurant has made quite an impression, if the full parking lot on any weeknight is an indication.
The restaurant, in a newly constructed building on upper Broadway, has a laid back casual feeling. There is ample seating available, but the owners also do a brisk takeout business. Either way, the food is excellent. The best way to describe Tuscan Pizza Grille is to describe it as a better, homemade version of California Pizza Kitchen. In addition to the personal pizzas (offered at around $9 and delicious -- try the Tex Mex), the restaurant has paninis, salads and other offerings. A liquor license was recently secured, so the restaurant now offers beer and wine. They have a small dessert list as well, but I have not yet tried any.
Coupons for Tuscan Pizza Grille also ran in the most recent issue of Clipper Magazine, so now is a good time to check this restaurant out.

I finally ventured into Beacon's hottest new restaurant -- OII -- this Friday. Confused by the name? It's pronounced Oh Two. The restaurant, with an eclectic cuisine combining small plates and regular entrees, has been written up in the New York Times, Hudson Valley Magazine, the Poughkeepsie Journal, and other publications as the place to eat in Dutchess County.
Our experience was good, but we felt the owners were trying a tad too hard to be trendy. We stuck with small plates, enjoying mini tacos, a small pizza with poblano peppers and pepperjack cheese, and shortribs with some yummy barbecue sauce. I briefly looked at their wine list, which changes regularly, and went with vinho verde, a good choice on a steamy summer day. The food was presented beautifully and tasted quite good. Everything we ordered had a spicy kick to it. Three small plates left us full, but with room for dessert. My husband tried the warm chocolate cake, which was beyond decadent and served with homemade mint ice cream. I had a key lime soufflet tartlet, which was excellent (many restaurants try and fail at key lime desserts, in my opinion).
The bill came out to just over $60, which I felt was fair given the setting (local artists display their work here) and the bistro ambiance. I give OII a thumbs up, but I feel their service should be just a bit more warm. Beacon is becoming a trendy spot, but it isn't Manhattan yet, so the restaurant should adapt a bit more to the setting.

We use Road Runner through Time Warner Cable and are pleased with it. We pay $150/month for cable TV (including HBO and our digital video recording feature), phone and Internet service. We rarely have problems. Only on occasion, such as a holiday, do I feel like the service is slow due to heavy usage. I have tried by cannot find any service that has that speed and reliability for that price! Nothing's cheap, but in our society we value speed, so I can't be without my cable modem!

When we rented, we used to eat out all the time. However, once we became homeowners and were faced with a mortgage, PMI and high property taxes, those days ended. Nowadays we try to plan meals ahead and find budget friendly recipes. When we do go out to eat, we enjoy it more than we used to, because it is much more of a treat. I have to put in a plug for our favorite grocery store, Hannaford, which has a lot of take home ready meals you can buy, that taste like restaurant food without the wait and need for tipping. Their ready to cook marinated meats and seafood are delicious and fair priced!

During a recent visit to the King of Prussia Mall, I decided to check out Janie and Jack, a children's store owned by Gymboree. I'd heard from a relative that they had high quality (but pricey) children's clothes. I picked up a beautiful pink, eyelet two-piece outfit for a cousin's new baby girl, but for a price. The clothing in Janie and Jack is of a very high quality, the kind your friends will salivate for as a hand-me-down. This is a great place if you are looking for a special baby gift. However, for everyday clothes, I'd skip it, unless you have a high income. The store is gorgeous, the staff helpful, but I did have sticker shock. Nevertheless, I know my cousin will be beyond pleased with the beautiful outfit (wrapped impeccably by the cashier), so it was a worthwhile splurge.

During a recent trip to the King of Prussia Mall, we decided to try the Rock Bottom Brewery for dinner. I am not sure if our late dining hour was a contributing factor, but the service was less than stellar. Tables abandoned by patrons were not cleaned, waitstaff was slow. The food was decent, though, with a beef tips entree costing around $14. The wine list was decent, though beer is obviously their specialty (I didn't try any, but they have many local microbrews). I would eat here again, but hope the service is better. Maybe we hit the place on an off night.

I actually ate at the Nudy's location in Phoenixville on a recent Sunday morning. One of my dining companions told me this was a popular brunch place, and she wasn't kidding. The creative varieties of pancakes and french toasts are amazing. They can even make you french toast out of cinnamon buns! I opted for the banana walnut french toast, at a fair price of $6 considering the fresh fruit and quality of the food. This is much nicer than a diner atmosphere and the food is clearly made fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant for breakfast.

If you want a great cheesesteak, pizza or gyro, check out Liberty Square. The food is made fresh -- you won't find lukewarm premade pizza slices here. There is plenty of seating if you want to sit and eat, but the restaurant also does a good takeout business. The food is excellent. The owner makes a mean gyro! And the prices, under $7 for most things, are quite fair considering that the food is of a high quality.

Okay, strictly vegetarian it isn't, but I love Zaftig's in Coolidge Corner. Any time of day, their food is delicious. In fact, now that I've mentioned it, I am craving some challah french toast! I'm a bit on the carnivorous side, so I also head there for reubens and similar fare. The only drawback to Zaftig's is the parking situation in Coolidge Corner. That neighborhood brings out my competitive spirit!
