I’m a sucker for neighborhood institutions; 50% because my parents met at a post-work local pub, 40% because I watched too much 'Cheers', and 10% because I’m lazy. Ok, 90% because I’m lazy. But there’s something to be said about a standard, friendly neighborhood bar…which I believe describes the Roanoke to a T.
From the welcoming Ivy covering the outside entrance to the sweet stench of regulars inside; it’s comfort and coziness from start to finish. They’ve got decent bar food made with love and a friendly staff. Typical beer selection and prices, but most importantly they've got heart.
Plus, you can call it ‘The Noke’. Because ‘The Roanoke’ takes too long to say.

Tacos Guaymas can and will fill you up. I'd go so far as to say it will FILL you UP! Everything else I can think of to explain this restaurant falls in the moderate adjective category. It's kind of good. It's somewhat expensive. The selection is fairly decent. Seating is tolerable (outdoor tables!) and parking is manageable.
Chips and Salsa are $1.00, which would be annoying if I ever actually bought them. Which I don’t.
If Azteca is 0 and a good Taco Truck is 10, then Tacos Guaymas is probably a 5. I'm obviously uncomfortable veering too far from 'middle of the road' territory. However the fact that every time I eat there it takes two hours to be able to breathe comfortably again should verify that it's worth a trip.

Deluxe Bar & Grill is located in a handy spot on the north end of Broadway and is a super lunch destination - particularly on Wednesdays. Burger Wednesdays give you a chance to try any of their burgers for $4.95. Or, if you're awesome, you can just try the same burger over and over again...still for only $4.95.
The service is fast, friendly and efficient; especially provided I'm generally with a large cartel of coworkers. Their signs advertise good bargains for happy hour and late night dinning, although I've yet to try either.
Something about the lighting and atmosphere seems palatial and pleasant and I've had nothing but positive experiences the whole way through. Yay and Yum from Sarah.

Pho is cheap, easy, and should be relatively predictable. While I'm finally trying to branch out and experience all that the Vietnamese restaurant world has to offer, I still need a safe haven home base to come back to. For me (and probably most of Seattle), that's Than Brothers. It doesn't help that there seems to be a location in virtually every neighborhood in the greater Seattle area, including some of the suburbs. It's quick and probably your cheapest option for a filling meal.
Of course, there's the cream puff conflict. I just don't want to eat the cream puff, ok? My gag reflex puts in an appearance the moment I get the first 'more cream than puff' bite (if you can call chugging cream a “bite”) so I avoid the dessert all together. And yes, I believe it's a dessert. Despite being served before your meal, their website directly states that it is for dessert! Well, actually they say it is for desert but I think you get the point.

Enjoy the cheap pho! Enjoy the cream puff as well, if you're so inclined.

Dunn Lumber is sweet. Pretty simple really...they're just sweet.
I needed a piece of 4 x 9 plywood. My naïveté led me to the bully of home improvement stores and an ultimately horrific experience. I had to fight tooth and nail for every bit of ‘help’ I got; from finding the right materials (don’t give me dirty looks just for asking for hot pink spray paint and saw horses in the same sentence) to getting assistance fastening said plywood to a friend’s SUV. Perhaps a more thoughtful, socially conscious business would have prevented a group of imprudent girls from getting onto 1-5 with a colossal piece of wood secured to their car by TWO paltry bungee cords. I praise the powers that be there wasn’t a family en route to church behind us when that monster snapped in half and flew off.
Needless to say, I was left with a heart palpitation and a remaining need for large plywood. This time I ended up at Dunn lumber and couldn’t have had a better experience. Not only did they provide the help and guidance I so desperately needed, they talked me through the whole decision making process without giving me bizarre looks or questions about my beloved project. They even helped me safely and securely tie the plywood to my beloved and since deceased Oldsmobile. Their prices were better, but more importantly their service was incomparable. Kudos, my lumber friends.

Totem House is a small fish and chips shanty close to the Ballard locks. As opposed to some of the other close fish huts, this one has indoor seating…both in the restaurant and in a semi-permanent, adjacent tent. For some reason I got a very strong (and awesome) ‘high school, tastee freeze’ vibe from the whole experience.
I don’t know if I’ve ever eaten more predictable food. Nothing to differentiate between this meal and the same one I had at Ivar's in a mall food court 7 years ago. It was pretty good and tasted exactly like…fried fish and chips. I was ecstatic to discover their fountain drinks had Diet Dr. Pepper, somewhat of a rarity (especially when they don't even have regular Dr. Pepper). I feel compelled to say the combo meal was ‘a little pricey’, but I’m beginning to realize I say that about everywhere I eat and that the problem probably lies with me rather than any and all restaurants I eat at. A filling two piece combo with soda was $10 or so. Overall? A pretty decent place to gorge yourself on grease.

Luckily, I'm good at multitasking. I just spent the better part of an hour and a half meeting waging an all out war, loser leave town, fight to the death assault against a renegade piece of pork lodged in my rear molars. In lieu of dental floss I inadvertently ingested a lot of nail polish...however I eventually emerged victorious. When all was said and done I couldn't help but reflect on the delicious nature of the meal that caused this epic crisis.
Pho Cyclo Cafe serves a lot more than just pho...although that in itself is pretty tasty. In comparison to pho-exclusive restaurants, Cyclo takes a little bit longer and is a little bit pricier. On the other hand they also offer a much larger selection of Vietnamese dishes...all of which seem to be solid and gratifying choices.
Courteous & convenient. Bring floss.

One of the 3 Seattle area TCBYs is housed in a Subway in Shoreline. I anticipated making a smooth transition to this location from the Lynnwood one because it's only 18 round trip I-5 exits, as opposed to Lynnwood's 28. So far I've regretted this decision every time I've made it.
Pros? No Christian music since they're a Subway first and foremost. Cons? Many.
Perhaps if I had a discussion with the staff they would understand what ridiculous lengths I go to to get frozen yogurt...primarily because I'm stupid. Maybe then they wouldn't insist on not only barely filling up a regular waffle cone, but then proceeding to weigh it. It's powder mixed with water and frozen. And I'm paying nearly $5.00 for it. Just fill it up. End of story.

For no reason whatsoever I decided to try this small breakfast restaurant in Lake City, a neighborhood I frequent as much as possible (again...for no reason).
It seems to be run by a tight knit group of family and or friends and the interior is spilling over with 'knick knacks' and pictures of one baby. I personally found the ornaments and trinkets a little distracting and suffocating, however they gave me hope that this was precisely the type of breakfast dive I was hoping for.
Service was a little on the slow side, but friendly and probably exaggerated in my head due to furious hunger (funger?). When the food came I was a little shocked by the classy presentation of the food. My omellete was a beauty with just the right amount of spices and garnishes. A little heavy on the butter (not unheard of or surprising for this type of restaurant) but beyond that, pretty delicious.

Let me preface by saying that travelling to Mt. Rainier for sightseeing can work up quite an appetite. I don't recommend insisting on waiting until you reach Eatonville for dinner, just so you can make puns to your starving friends on the way. Apparently it can result in a $173.00 speeding ticket. Eatonville? More like ihatecopsonsville.
That said, I wasn't in a very good mood when we got to the first restaurant I could find post authorities, nor was I in the mindset to praise anything related to Eatonville. However, I quickly learned Tall Timber Restaurant should not be the scapegoat for my wrath, because the food and experience turned out to be surprisingly good.
For some reason I spend most of my time in Seattle looking for dive restaurants that should be found in the middle of nowhere. One of my first actual ‘in the middle of nowhere’ experiences encourages me that this is a good and productive train of thought. My turkey & bacon sourdough melt was bangin' and I had an elderly waitress named Bev who made regular use of phrases like 'here you be!" when delivering food. Walked in livid...walked out happily full and only mildly furious.
