Many years ago, there was a chain of Nighthawk Diners all over the place. There was even one down on Congress Ave. No more. The last of these restaurants is an institution for the neighborhoods around Koenig lane. The Frisco Shop serves up real diner food. Don't miss the Frisco burger and the fresh pie.

We used to get our prescriptions filled at CVS on Burnet and North Loop. Every time we went to pick up a prescription or refill, it seemed to take them 20-30 minutes to complete the transaction, even if no one else was in line! I think having to convert from an Eckerd has screwed them up and their staff is not trained well. Avoid this place!

The new-ish Amy's ice cream on Burnet has a great playscape for the 2.5 - 12 set (the sign says 3 - 12, but my 2.5 year old loves it). The playscape has three slides, a bridge and lots of great climbing entrances. Of course, Amy's has great ice cream as well, and they just opened a burger joint on the same property, so it's now great for lunch or dinnertime, too. BTW, the playscape is open even if Amy's is not. Great spot for weekend mornings.

I've read many times in the Chronicle that Ace Tailors is the best in town, but I've had pretty mixed luck with them, at three different locations. I prefer Victoria's Cleaners for simple tailoring jobs like hemming pants. Every time they have done the job correctly, and the hem has never fallen out.

However, their fajitas are fantastic! Get the fajitas for two, they add serrano chilies that are super hot!
Just order to go, and you're all set.
BTW did I mention that it's really noisy, and all the high chairs have broken seat belts?

I have been getting regular cleanings and checkups at Dr. Imperial's office for about six years. My wife goes there, and I have recommended a couple co-workers who have been very happy with his work. The hygienists are friendly and do an excellent job. He uses low-power electronic x-rays that only expose you to 10% of the x-rays used by conventional film. Never had a problem with insurance or bad work. Dr. Imperial and his staff make going to the dentist (almost) fun!

Often the books are in really good shape, some are practically new. Some folks must not have friends or family to pass books on to when their kids outgrow them. Check out Savers!

It is true that a Fry's store contains a mind bogglingly wide range of products, but the nightmare of navigating through the store to find your item or winding your way down the "aisle-of-pain" at the checkout is enough to keep me buying electronics on NewEgg and just having it shipped to me.
