Toy Joy is a kitchy toy store on the drag that caters to college aged kids with disposable income but also sells some cool stuff for younger and older kids as well. They generally have a nice selection of the über-expensive Haba wooden toys for babies and other youngn's. I've also found fun picture frames and magnets there for unique, not-so-expensive gifts.

I have had chronic neck and shoulder tension for years. I've seen deep tissue massage therapists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, rolfers, yogis and MDs. Sheera Rexroad of Balance Point has some kind of amazing massage Kung Fu where she blends myofascial release, cranio-sacral therapy, deep tissue work, and I think she does energy balancing, too. She has helped me more with less pain than anyone else I've worked with. Plus, a single session is cheaper, because she only does 1/2 hour sessions. I think you still get the benefit of an hour or more.

This specialty store has a wide range of massagers, chairs, and beds that are all designed to help your back. I've bought a couple items from there and been pretty happy, however, they are really set up to sell the expensive items. I've found the staff knowledge of the products pretty uneven. I think they just train people on the job.

Ohhhh, they get me every time! I keep going back to the Cenetral Market Cafe even though I think the food is only okay and the service is ... wait a minute, there's no service! You stand in line to order from a counter. You have to pick up your own food. It's always busy at the drink station. Even though you pay the same price you would at a sit down place, you get to do the work yourself. Hmmm. They got a pretty good racket going here.
Of course, I still love their fries. Gosh!

If you happen to work downtown in one of the state office buildings flanking Congress Ave north of the Capitol, you've probably eaten lunch at Scholtz Garden. I don't know what the scene is like when they have music at night, but they don't go out of their way for the lunch crowd. My advice, stick to basic barbecue like brisket and sausage. Avoid the dried out smoked turkey.

Mothers Cafe, a vegetarian restaurant in Hyde Park has this cool indoor garden with regular seating. They often have easy listening/new age/harp-playing musicians in the garden area. All the plants and the little pond make for a delightful environment. Best things about Mother's: soups, salsa, and no animals killed to prepare your meal.

Hard to get more chain-like than Einstein's. Corporate designed to the nines, Einsteins sells bagels, coffee pastries, breakfast sandwiches and lunch items. The bagels are quite good, so is the coffee, and so are the whipped cream cheese varieties they sell. I tend to judge bagels by the "everything" bagel. Einstein's does not disappoint.

There are a number of StarBucks in Austin, but by far the best in terms of drink preparation and friendliness is the Starbucks at 2222 and MoPac. I have always had excellent service both in the store and through the drive-thru. I'll actually drive out of my way to go there if I gotta have that Frappacino.

He takes the time to explain what he's doing to check out your eyes and is really dedicated to making sure you get the right prescription. He will also go the extra mile on contacts to make sure that you have a type that feels comfortable and provides you with good vision correction at the same time.
