Miller Road has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants and getting Mexican isn't that difficult especially with the arrival of Moe's. But I love the chips at Chili's. They are real tortilla chips, not store bought. The cheese sauce is really good too. I find Chili's isn't as busy as some of the newer restaurants located around it, so we have been eating more here just to avoid the crowds. Food is good, service is good and often times it is not as crowded or noisy as in the past. I can't say outstanding by any means, but you will get a good meal in timely fashion.

The Pink Pony is located on Main Street on Mackinac Island, Michigan and serves up some great sandwiches, hamburgers, nachos and my favoriate, a black bean and nachos dip. The restaurant includes a bar and several TVs for catching the Pistons and Red Wings if you visit in the spring and early summer. Live entertainment in the evenings during the summer months. The restaurant is not big and doesn't have a lot of seating so arrive early during the busy season.

Tucked on a side street off of the main street, this little restaurant offers indoor, outdoor and bar seating. The food is excellent and as with other restaurants on the island, Great Lakes fish have a prominent role on the menu. Pasta and Mexican food also good. I prefer eating outdoors and people watching; indoors can seem a bit dark and with the wood floor and wood walls it seems a bit noisy during peak meal times. Good food worth giving a try when you are in Northern Michigan.

There are lots of good restaurants on Mackinac Island and the French Outpost ranks right up there. They have indoor and outdoor seating, a nice bar area and a huge indoor fireplace. The pasta and seafood dishes are excellent. Sometimes they have a band indoors or a solo singer outdoors. Close to the Grand Hotel, across from the little chapel, and a short walk from main street, this restaurant is a great place to people watch when warm enough for outdoor seating.

Squealy's is so named for all the pigs that adorn this restaurant. Big pink pig fans. They have a great lunch and dinner buffet that is worth checking out. The chef does some great things with fresh Great Lakes fish. Several of the waitresses are from out-of-country which often adds to the dinner conversation. The restaurant is located right across from the Straights state park so take a walk along the beach after dinner.

We rank the pizza at Mama Mia's as one of the top in Michigan. The folks who own this restaurant have a great collection of stuff from the building of the Mackinaw Bridge. It was once on display in a museum at the top of the restaurant. However, there was a fire this past summer and the restaurant and museum were destroyed. The owner plans to rebuild and has been getting donations from all over to get up and running again. Once open again, stop in for great pizza and a chance to check out some great Michigan history.

No trip to Mackinaw City is complete without a stop at the Kite Company. Chances are you may see their kites flying at the beach when tooling around the city. They have lots of fun toys for both kids and grown-ups from flying discs and kites to whirly gigs for your garden and backyard. Even if you don't buy, it's worth stopping in. It always feels so bright and airy and fun in the store. If you can't get to Northern Michigan, check out their web site!

My husband and I went on a dinner cruise and found it to be very enjoyable. The food was really good and the entertainment quite nice. You can pick a specific cruise (comedy, country, rock and roll etc). The menu is limited which makes serving everyone easier but it was delicious. You can't beat cruising on Mott Lake, the location is very cool considering it is so close to the city. The cost was a bit of a problem, I wasn't willing to spend for a family cruise. They also offer lunch cruises which are less expensive. A nice way to participate in a local, hometown activity.

We would drive to East Lansing to eat at Mongolian BBQ and are so happy they are now in Flint. It may take a bit to figure out the combination of veggies/meat, spices and sauces that suite your palette, but once you do, it is well worth it. It is a very busy restaurant and can get noisy, but the food is so healthy and good. All their nutritional info is on the web (some of the sauces have more fat content than you may think). Try to go before 5:00 p.m to avoid the crowd. The only real problem is when it is busy; you have to wait to get your food cooked. Fill that bowl full though and you only have to go through one time!

This is cozy restaurant with a quiet atmosphere. Fresh bread is brought to the table before the meal arrives. The food is basic Italian with large portions and the salad is excellent. In fact I could do well with just bread and salad and a side of pasta! They serve alcohol. It tends to be busy at the usual hours. We've always had good service, nothing to complain about. Not a stand out restaurant, but certainly a nice change of pace.
