Not sure who the heck this "Mother Hubbard" person is, but I have to tell her I really like her bar! For me, there are so many snobby/yuppie/annoying bars and clubs in this area, so it's refreshing that Mother Hubbard's is pretty down to earth and fun. This is a really good bar. Nice sized rooms, pool tables, lots of televisions and the staff is pretty cool and efficient. They do some great happy hours and special events here as well.

This place is now famous because President Bush once ate here. (Well, I don't hold that against them!) They are a nice little slice of Americana. I go here for the breakast items. They have a pretty nice menu of all the standards you would expect to find from a family style diner. Good service and regular down home folks work and eat here all the time. You can get some good comfort food for a very reasonable price. (Hey, who picked up the check for Bush's dinner? Did he leave a good tip?) These are things I ponder...

You don't get the drunkin' fools like at Wrigley, you actually get people attending who care about baseball. It's a real treat to see up and coming talent play their hearts out for fans. It's a nice stadium and you don't get that (overpaid) baseball player attitude here, that's for sure.

This is a tiny (but sometimes too smokey for my taste) place in the West Loop. The people who work here are salt of the earth and very nice. I enjoy their fried cheesesticks and chicken fingers appetizers. The soups are always really good too. They also have some nice salads and many other tasty items to choose from. I think they still do a happy hour on Thursday evenings that features lite snacks.

I used to work next door to this place. Let me tell you that my heart was melting every single day because I would see them from my window walking the dogs all the time. I would watch and observe, first hand, the love and care these animals were getting at Urban Out Sitters. Even in bad weather, the staff would lift them up, cuddle them or help them through snow and ice. I sensed they really cared about these animals and as a dog lover, that scores big points with me. I highly recommend them because your pets will love this kind of special attention.

Do you folks remember the WTTW program, Wild Chicago? I used to watch it all the time for a couple reasons: 1. I had a huge crush on Ben Hollis (must have been the safari outfit that drove me wild...) and 2. It featured some of the coolest people, places and things in the city. This park was highlighted years ago on one of their shows. I went here after watching them talk about it and loved it ever since. This park is quirky, different and fun. I love looking at the sculptures and walking along the park itself. (Note: Ben Hollis is back on the air with an updated version of Wild Chicago that takes you to these awesome places throughout Illinois. Check it out on our local PBS station).

I have so many memories of this lovely concert venue. The first time I went here (just days after turning the big 21), I went to see the worst concert in the history of mankind. Do you remember a band named Bow Wow Wow? Yeah, I didn't think so...they were dreadful, but I still had a good time at Park West. After that night, I went back many more times and loved it because of the intimate setting. The outside doesn't look so hot anymore, but the theater itself is small and comfortable with a good sound system. A lot of great national and local bands have passed through these doors.

My first time at this restaurant was kind of surreal. A guy took me here to "break my heart and let me down easy with the bad news...." that he was gay. He said I would be devastated because he knew I had fallen in love with him, but alas, we could not be. Well, when I was finished laughing my butt off (because, 1. I already knew he was gay, 2. I do not make a habit of falling for gay men...) we ended up having a great time and becoming close friends. Once we relaxed and got through that weird conversation, we realized this was a great restaurant, and we shared some authentic Mexican food, fun drinks and enjoyed the classic music. We then split an order of fried ice cream and went on our merry way. I love it here!

It's like Woodstock for hot dogs, man! I never in my life witnessed a longer line. People EVERYWHERE. Every time I go near the place, I see cars wrapped all the way around the parking lot, just to get some chow to go. Amazing. I love this particular Portillo's. You can get whatever you want (the choices are so many), the music is fun and upbeat and the servers are always on their best behavior. I love the pasta, chocolate cake, and salads the best. They have a large selection of food and a cool looking dining area. But be warned, if you go during lunch hour, you will wait and wait and wait....zzzzz

There's a lot to like about the charming and friendly Abbey Pub. They bring in some great national and local bands here and the place is small so all the seats are good. They also have open mic nights which are a lot of fun. The bar itself has a warm vibe with some down to earth people. Food is good (I especially like the fish dinner). It's always a nice time at the Abbey!
