Mishima is a great place to grab some noodles. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant is pretty kid-friendly, with a decent kid entree and comfortable seating where the tables aren't too close together. Their combos (with udon or other noodles and usually one other dish) run about $8-$12, so it's pretty reasonably priced. Their desserts are surprisngly good, and not too expensive relative to a sit-down restaurant dessert (about $4 each).

I hope this trend of cupcakes instead of a big cake at a party really takes off. Sprinkles is a great place to get a variety of stuff, so all of your guests can find something they like. Not everyone will get stuck having the same thing. Especially good for kids' parties. If you were planning on spending thirty or forty bucks for a cake anyway, you're better off getting a dozen cupcakes instead.

Tapas style eating is generally not a baby-friendly type thing. No child wants to linger at a table for a couple of hours eating small portions of food. But we went last month with our (well behaved, I should caution) 13 month old, and the restaurant was not only accomodating but the hour we spent there was very comfortable. It's probably a good idea if you plan on going with children to make your reservation early, before it gets crowded, and order all at once instead of ordering in shifts.

It's worthwile to pay extra (I think it's about ten bucks) to get the warranty, because then they will fix your flats for free for the duration that your tire has tread.

As far as sushi lunch specials go, this place has some of the best. Their sushi specials with salad are awesome. They make a grilled salmon salad, and on the side you get a half a cut roll and a few pieces of sushi, all very high quality for a reasonable price. Their salad dressing is excellent and they're pretty sparse with it on the salad, so be sure to ask for extra on the side. Parking is limited, but there are usually meters opening up if you circle the block once or twice.

This place makes the best burgers. It can get very crowded at lunchtime, so be prepared for a wait. Also, parking is pretty limited. If you get lucky, you can snag one of the half dozen meters in front. The place feels like it has been frozen in time. Old fashioned food, simple menu, great service. They only offer a very few choices, including a "steak burger" (which is what we know as a hamburger). Save room for pie with ice cream.

They make an awesome spaghetti with either meat sauce or marinara. Their cafeteria-style service is a bit weird, and it's not the most comfortable place to eat in. But their take out is superb. And the prices are very reasonable. They even have daily specials, like chicken parm or lasagne.

I don't understand the appeal of this show in a town like LA. There are probably a dozen local acts/bands that are playing on any given night at half a dozen different clubs in town that are exceedingly better than any of the finalists on this show. It's no wonder "Vote For the Worst" does so well, but why hasn't LA caught on? Why does this town have Idol fever?

Also, they make great iced blendeds, and can make virtually any drink decaff and nonfat. If you get their frequent buyer card, you get a free drink (or free bulk coffee) after a few visits.

Houston's isn't just about meat.
