In my husband's words, Thai '99 "is frickin' ridiculously good!" Our favorite items on the menu include the Red Curry with Chicken and Garlic Pork. They have a scale of hotness for their foods, from Mild to Native Thai! I can't even begin to imagine how hot that would be because "Medium Plus" is extremely spicy!!! The service is really friendly and this is a very popular restaurant.

If you decide to get breakfast or lunch (as they serve breakfast bagels and sandwich bagels), prepare for a long line because a lot of hungover students from JMU flock to Mr. J's after they get out of bed!

Since moving away from an area with lots of Panera Breads nearby, we have to now travel about 30 minutes minimum to enjoy the fresh bread, bagels and coffee! My husband and I love all of their sandwiches! If you are trying to eat healthy, check out their French Onion soup. It is delicious and relatively low in calories and fat!

Being frugal in general, my husband and I are always challenged to find a great meal out, providing leftovers for a cheap price. Happy Hour at Macaroni Grill is the perfect solution. I believe their Happy Hour times are Monday through Friday from 3pm to 7pm. Ok, so first there is endless free bread. And I think Macaroni Grill's bread is amazingly delicious! Then, all appetizers and pizzas are half off! We usually each order and appetizer and each order a pizza (the BBQ Chicken Pizza is supreme!). We usually only make it through some of the appetizers and then take the rest home...it lasts for days!

I remember being about 10 years old the first time my dad and I ate at Abacus Inn. The food is absolutely fabulous. I'm not sure if they still do coupons in Entertainment Coupon books, but it might be worth the check. If I remember right, their coupons in Entertainment were VERY valuable...you could really save quite a lot of money!

I thought Fashion Gallery in Verona was JUST for grannies...or at least the 55+ crowd, but I was happily surprised to find all types of funky dresses, sweaters, shoes and more at this massive store! It seems to go from room, to room, to room! They have a few major sales that are worth shopping. I think the two main sales are at the first of the year, and then again in late summer (beginning around August). The clothes range from really expensive business clothes, to flirty sun dresses, to prom dresses and more!

I really like the Books-A-Million store located in Staunton's Colonial Mall. I was used to being near big bookstores like Barnes & Noble and Borders before moving to Staunton. I was happy to find a larger (well, medium-sized) bookstore with a coffee shop where I could buy a cup of coffee and browse magazines on a lazy afternoon.

This is the type of shop to come to if either a) you are REALLY into outdoor adventure activities, or b) you are REALLY into wearing expensive, name-brand outdoor gear, like Northface and Mountain Hardware. I think the quality of products at this store is top-notch, but you will also pay a premium. The actual building is very cool and quite large. Definitely worth a look if you are needing outdoor clothes or gear!

We considered getting our wedding flowers from Flowers by Jay, as my husband's parents had 30 years prior. The positive side was we received very personalized help. We didn't really know exactly what we needed when we went into the store for the consultation. The downside was that we felt as though they were trying to "upsell" to us because we didn't know as much as we should have perhaps. Based on the flower selection recommended to us, I don't believe they had the intention of staying within our stated budget!

Crown Jewelers is a nice local jewelry store in downtown Staunton. My husband (fiance at the time) looked for our wedding rings at this store, though it was outside of our budget. They had some really beautiful rings, earrings and necklaces.
We were told that during the summer they typically have a diamond sale, so if you're in the market for a diamond, keep your eyes and ears open for their summer sale!
They have a nice selection of antique jewelry as well - some strange pieces, but many quite beautiful!
