Yesterday my friend and I went to El Torito for lunch. I had the macho combo platter, which had a taco, tamale, beans, rice, enchilada and a few other things. The service was good, but the food was sorta blah. All four things on my plate tasted exactly the same after a few bites. We also shared a fried ice cream and that was really good. The place wasn't very busy for a Saturday afternoon, so one of the bussers was vacuuming with one of those small vacuum cleaners and it was very distracting I thought. I would probably eat there again, to try something more flavorful like fajitas or a carne asada burrito, but so far I wouldn't recommend this place.

I've been going to Bare tan now for several months to use their mystic tans. Considering 90% of me has a Swedish background my skin tends to be white, except for in the summer when its off white. I went there because I was going home for a wedding in Washington state and wanted to have some color instead of looking pastier then my friends. The place is clean and the staff is pretty friendly. Although let me tell you they were super super nice to me when I first went and after I bought a package I was old news. But the tan itself is nice. I like it because it takes less than 10 minutes to go in, undress, get sprayed with whatever it is that gives you a safe, no UV tan, get dressed and out the door. But it is one of the more pricier places I've been to mystic tan. If you just get one mystic tan I believe its around 29 dollars. I bought a package of ten for 180 dollars so its 18 dollars each plus he threw in 2 extra tans. I went after work this afternoon at 4 and now just a few hours later I look hot (okay tanner) and I'm ready to go out on the town.

If you are walking through the orange circle you should stop by this store, which has been family owned for over 50 years. They have lots of new and used stuff like tents, camping gear, army fatigues, military movies, and shoes. It is a really big store and they have good prices if you are looking for camping gear. Also if you want anything camo they have it for sure. I spent over an hour trying to find camo pants with my last name on the pocket, but was unsuccessful. The staff was really nice and even though I didn't buy anything I would recommend it.

Who doesn't like healthy food? Okay not everyone, but their is no denying that they have great healthy food. The portions are huge especially the salads. I love their hummus that is made with black beans and tortilla chips. I also am a huge fan of the summer salad which has cranberries, candied walnuts and chicken. The servers there are always friendly and usually very quick (unless you go at peak hours). Prices are really cheap and right now they are running a special all year where each month they offer something that is only a dollar. Last month it was hummus and I was surprised by how large the portion was. My only complaint is they are closed on Sundays. Other than that I love going there because I feel skinny when I leave.

So I blame this place for they freshman 10, oh who am I kidding? freshman 20 I gained. They have the best in the world!!! If you've never tried it before go RIGHT NOW. It blows Ben & Jerry's out of the water. I no longer live in the area, but I can still remember the taste when it touches your lips for the first time and melts in your mouth. If I ever go back to visit, I'll make sure this place is on my top places to go. So who cares if you gain ten or twenty pounds, everyone does when they are a freshman. Wouldn't you rather gain it from ice cream than beer?

If you are looking for a restaurant to get some decent food at a good price then check out Felix's in the Orange circle. The service is sorta slow, but very friendly to compensate for it. They have indoor and outdoor seating with heat lamps to keep you warm. I love this chicken and fruit salad they have. It has peas and bananas which sounds like a weird combo, but its so good. Don't expect 5 star quality and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Sunday nights always seem to be hoppin there. And as a bonus you get a piece of cake that is SO yummy with each dinner entrรฉe order at no charge. I've also placed take out there and they were very friendly and included lots of napkins and silverware. Overall a good place to go with good friends for a nice meal.

So if you like reading books but hate corporate book stores that have taken over the country then try Bookman. They have an enormous selection of used books ranging in anything from travel, art, history, politics, cooking, fiction, and everything in between. The prices are pretty reasonable especially if it is a hard to find book or an obscure topic. I once bought a text book for school there for 12 dollars and they were selling it on campus for 75. Then I sold it to my school at the end of the quarter for 30. Good books good deals. The staff is really friendly and I think there is a website for them to look for books before you go there if you are looking for a certain title.

I love that as a society we are creating businesses that make it so we barely have to leave our house if we want. Case in point: NetFlix! I kept getting these advertisements in the mail for a free trial and at first I was sketchy, because I thought "now how lazy can a person be?" But with a busy life I soon was sucked into this phenomenon and now I love it. Its so easy, first you create a list of movies you want to see and in what order. They have everything from old classics, foreign horror films and television shows. They even give you ideas like "most 100 popular movies right now". Then when you pick a movie it gives you other movies you might like. You can read reviews of what people thought of this movie or show to help you decide. What I love most though is how fast the movies come. Within two days my first DVD arrived. I watched it that night, mailed in the next day (a Thursday) and received my next movie on Saturday. Plus it comes in a pre packaged envelope to send back and shipping is free. I only pay 9.99 a month to have one DVD out at a time, or you can pay more to have 2 or even 3 at a time. I figure I get an average of 2 to 3 movies a week, which over a month adds up to 10 to 15 movies. At a video rental place that would be 50 to 70 dollars a month. You do the math, plus you don't have to waste gas money going or the time of walking around the store trying to find a movie you haven't seen before.

I recently switched gym locations after moving to a nearby city. Although the gyms are both owned by 24 hour fitness the difference is noticeable. I use to work out at the gym off Bake Pkwy. in Irvine and now I've switched to the one in Orange off Champan Ave. The major difference is that the Irvine location is a sport and Orange is an active so the quality is lower and they do not have a pool. However, I think I like this location better. The other gym was full of people who looked like they had just stepped off the pages of fitness magazine, which for some might be incentive for me it was intimidating. Not that there isn't good looking people at Orange, but the crowd isn't decked out in their latest Nike matching outfits and seems to be more down to earth. Plus I've found the staff much friendlier and attentive. I do miss the pool and sauna, but if I'm really craving it I can drive a few miles to the gym by the Aneheim Stadium and get my swim on there. My only advice is do not sign up for one of their gimmicks like nothing down, because you'll pay more in the long run for a higher monthly due. And if you can afford it buy the lifetime membership if you are serious about working out for forever. See you at the treadmill.

If you are a little on the daring side and like to try new things I recommend Lee's sandwiches. There are several locations in Orange County, although I've only eaten at the one in Garden Grove. They have delicious Vietnamese sandwiches that are served on a baguette type bread that is almost a foot long and have lots of fillings. My favorite is the BBQ pork. They also have shrimp rolls, coconut waffles (sounds weird, but they are scrumptious), and Asian style candy. Best of all this location is open 24 hours a day seven days a week!!!!! Secondly they are so cheap!!!!!!! The place is really clean and serves quality food. That is why when you go there at 3 in the morning there is a line believe it or not. The most expensive thing on there menu is their smoothies and they are only 3.50 and totally worth, I recommend the raspberry. Also skip the than ice tea, because its a really small portion.
