Especially if youre a grad student, cheap is good! but yes, the place could use some updating. for example... all the bathtubs are probably from 1912... they spray paint them to keep them from looking nasty. heres a tip though. paint, when wet, flakes off, then looks more disgusting than ever. At first I thought, ew, this is so nasty, i'll never be able to take a bath here... but, eh, I've had them come paint it a coupla times.... its not getting any better. so now i've gotten used to it and yes, I do now take baths in the tub, while huge flakes of paint float around me.
They are putting in internet that will be free, horray! it'll be done for fall semester
crime is really bad, i've had my car broken into, and we're always reading about somethign bad that happened,
but the people here are really nice,and the staff is nice and helpful, its a great place to live ifyoure a grad student, and don't like bathing in paint chips.

The last time I was there, I saw no less than three men break the legs right off their chairs when they were trying to lean back or push back their chairs to get up. The first time I thought the waiter was just being polite when he said "it happens all the time," but... then it happened twice more in the next hour. so I guess it really DOES happen all the time.

You'll want to visit their other locations in jacksonville as well, Riverside, Ponte Vedra, and I believe there is one on Beach Blvd as well. the salads are good, but the pizza is where its at. While you'll want to eat a great deal hot and in the restaurant, I must insist that you take at least half of your pizza home and shove it in the fridge until the following day. Cold Als Pizza is so tasty.... you must try it, I know you'll agree.

They have a wide menu of martinis; and a dessert menu thats great. they are also very accommodating. my sister once was too picky to pick something normal for dessert, (like to die for creme brulee.. thats what i have) and so instead requested a bowl of whipped cream.... Without looking at her with a 'are you kidding me' look (like the one i gave her) our pleasant waiter said he would see what he could do, and came back promptly with a bowl made of drizzled chocolate, heaped full with whipped cream, and a cage of carmel over top.

I have loved ragtime, for I don't know how long. There are so many great things to say about it, but I'll just tell you what to order to ensure you have the most delicious time. Start out with the sampler of beers, you get a nice little place mat and 5-7 beers to taste (they have their own micro brewery) to start, get the baked brie and ragtime shrimp as appetizers. the shrimp is just to die for, its coconut battered and fried, and the sauce to dip it in... i could drink it! next, you'll want to get the sesame crusted tuna, for sides get the fried spinach. i dont know how they do it, but the spinach gets all crispy and marvelous. I know youre full... but keep going! you must try the red beans and rice, and THEN... the beignets. these tasty little dougnuts will be all you need to put you over the edge; into blissful obesity.

I'm not much of a fan for Burritos; they tend to have significantly too much rice and not much flavor. I usually go with teh chicken, but my beef with this place is that the word "ass" is everywhere.... even on the paper cups.... So. Leave your kids at home if you need a burrito, unless you want them drinking out of a paper cup that has a handprint on a butt and says something like "smack your ass good..."

They do rent out the space for parties, you should try it, for parties and on most nights they have a great authentic belly dancer. I had never seen anything like it!

across the street from the nicer, better kept Sea Turtle Inn, the flamingo pink with teal trim hotel has to be as old as I am... and i'm not sure when they've been last renovated. However, their new Lemon Bar, on the beachside, has in recent year become quite the hang out for the younger crowd. it's on the beach, all outdoors, often has live music, and will always have a hip crowd. don't worry about walking up from the beach in a bathing suit and flip flops, but dont try to walk out the gate with your drink... its not allowed.
