A friend recommended "todays look" to get my eyebrows waxed (we had been growing them out together... and could finally stand it no more) we went together, and she had no problem with her waxing... but when the lady did mine... (it was the same lady) she ripped the skin off of my face! I had raw red skin all around my eyes for a whole day, while yes I looked like a raccoon and that was unpleasant... it hurt miserably! I have a very pale complexion, and when I asked about what to do about this redness immediately following the waxing, she told me not to worry about it, it would go away in a few minutes. when it didn't she gave me a tinted aloe cream that she said would cover it up and when i looked at what the cream looked like on my face after she applied it... i realized that it was tinted... for someone with an ebony complexion... so now instead of a red raccoon, I just looked like a raccoon.... it was awful!

While you do have to be registered with the Library to go into the reading room, the tour guide will show you around the atrium area and point out interesting aspects of the building and reading room. The guides were very informative and explained artistic touches, and architectural meaning that I would never have even noticed. What looks like an overly ornate area, has real meaning all around that I would never have seen. I was so surprised that we had a treasure like this building in the US, and even more so that I didn't know anything about it! I had expected to be going to see piles of books. (yawn) but no, the architectural tour was entertaining and great! Also. the bookstore is great, you'll want to buy everything!

A friend of ours told us we had to go to "the pump" to buy liquor... so of course, needing no further urging than a suggestion, we were off. I was pleased to find that everything was moderately priced, and they had an acceptable low price wine selection with ratings!! I am not a wine connoisseur, so i always buy by the # of points... I got a 94 point bottle for 14$, and it was delicious! the people there were helpful, but the store is very small, and packed to the gills, so don't go flailing about or you'll most likely knock over a shelf or something. they had a wide variety of micro brewed beers as well.

I would never have known this place was here... but wandered into it accidentally a month or so ago. Yesterday I dropped in because I needed to get my mother in law watercolor paintbrushes. I was overwhelmed by the thousands of paint brushes there were... I selected some camel hair ones for her (they were HALF OFF!!! paintbrushes are super expensive... so i was thrilled these were 50% off) but they had mouse hair, sable, etc. you could spend a whole crap load of money here... one paintbrush was 197$. she didn't need that nice of a present... they also had paper, models, all kinds of things. you name the art product,.... they have it there. the people there are really nice too, and they have a discount card you can sign up for, i think it was 25% off, but not off sale things.

Right next to my beloved Pizza Mart... this restaurant has so much charm! It is decorated in traditional Indian Flair, and your food will be brought out tandoori style, in a little fondue pot thing that keeps it warm... I asked for a recommendation, and the waiter selected for me the first item under 'chicken' on the menu. I couldn't pronounce it then, I surely can't write the name of it now... just order it. I don't know how they get the meat so tender, it just melts apart in your mouth.... if you do go.... please write down the name of whatever that thing is and tell me, so I can try to find a recipe and make some semblance of a recreation....
also, the people there were so nice. the rest of my party wanted pizza mart (where you'll note, there is no seating) and i wanted this tasty chicken thing, so i asked if they could join me... and they had no problem with bringing water and plates and things to the other 4 people eating pizza while i ate tasty chicken whatever its called

I don't ordinarily order grilled cheese sandwiches... especially when its not really on the menu. you probably don't either. but have yourself a 4 year old lunch, get a strawberry milkshake... and enjoy. The Potbelly vegetarian melt usually has wretched mushrooms and other vegetables. ask for the vegetarian with no vegetables (or keep tomatoes... thats a nice addition) and if you're particularly daring... ask them to cut off the crust. hehehe This sandwich is a melt of many different cheeses, you'll enjoy it immensely. Don't worry when you get there and the line is out the door. it moves quickly and is well worth it.

Of course you expect to see tourists here... and you know what the drinks and food'll be like, so I'll just give you the tips.
When you order drinks, most of them will come in souvenir glasses.... after several beverages, its easy to forget that. You don't, however, have to keep that glass! you can take it back for 3 or 4$s (i don't remember which... too much to drink...) Now. I went with a Tulane student who taught me the art of watching to see who is going to get up from their table and most likely forget their glasses..... so you watch. you see people get up and leave, then you swoop in and take all the glasses, turn em in, and use the proceeds to buy your next few drinks. :)
Next. when you have your money, and you're fixin to buy your beverage.... keep in mind... and this is so sneaky of them.... the prices are different at the different bars! I cant remember for sure... but i think the piano bar was the cheapest one. so. check first to see which one is the cheapest one. :)

Mayport is a huge navy settlement, and most nights the outside bar, which is lovely and has great views, is full of navy officers and enlisted men enjoying their evenings. you'll also find UNF students an other beachies, but not the beach crowd you'll find at the lemon bar or ragtime. they do have good drink specials, huge pitchers of long island iced tea for something like 6$. The outside bar area serves some food, but as with most bar seating, the service is limited and slow.
you'll be amazed by the contrast when you step inside. the inside is hard wood, soft lighting, and almost beach elegant. I actually had my rehearsal dinner here. the service inside is great, and the food delicious. for large parties (like my rehearsal) they do have a set menu with very reasonable prices. unfortunately, they do not do any drink specials indoors, or make any arrangements for large parties, but the deal you get on food is so good it made paying for the drinks okay.

I have to agree with Nancy, the food is just not very impressive. The menu will get you excited about them... but lets face it. its just sandwiches and potato chips. They do have a drink around the world club, and like, a zillion different kinds of beers. I like to go for desserts, they have tasty looking cookies that look like a big scoop of ice cream... but they aren't great. good to give as a gift though. what you really want to go for is a slice of cake. Also, they have an adorable market with a surprisingly lot of stuff in it. from well priced wine (almost all are 2 bottles for 10$s) to candy, to hot sauce, its a great place to find a gift.

I have, regretfully, never been able to eat here before, so i cannot comment on the food. I have, however, walked through on multiple occasions, and WANTEd to eat here. the Row is in a newly refurbished bed and breakfast, the house is gorgeous and has been redone beautifully. the couple that owns it and redid it do so for a living, and have redone several historic homes and turned them into bed and breakfasts'. the molding on the inside and out is just beautiful, and the hardwood floors are gorgeous, their menu looks tasty, you can check it out on their website. look at the rooms too, very affordable and well appointed.
