JJ's offers locally harvested seafood and traditional American cuisine. Dine inside or dine outside on the patio. Or you can order your food to go! They have great tasting micro brews and wines, and the clam chowder and fish and chips are my favorites! The employees are always friendly and courteous. If you're in downtown Poulsbo, stop in to JJ's Fish House for a bite to eat!

I live in Poulsbo, Washington a small town located on the Liberty Bay. Poulsbo has their annual Fireworks on the Fjord event that is held on July 3rd. Throughout the day of July 3rd in downtown Poulsbo you can participate in fun family events such as a watermelon eating contest, a seed spitting contest (yes, SEED spitting), ice cream eating contest, carnival rides, and more. They have food and craft booths, live music at the pavilion, clog dancing, and the parade of boats on the bay. At 10:30 pm the firewoks begin and at 11pm they end. Admission and parking to this event is free.
Here is a link to the information and schedule of events to Fireworks on the Fjord:

On the afternoon of the 3rd of July my family visits downtown Poulsbo to participate in the Fireworks on the Fjord event, ride some great carnival rides, eat some great carnival food, and just have fun. In the evening of the 3rd of July, we all gather on the deck of our home to watch the fireworks over Liberty Bay as we have one of the best views of the event.
On the 4th of July we usually have a relaxing day at home watching the neighborhood fireworks.

Battleground Lake State Park is located in Battleground, Washington about 25 miles from Vancouver, Washington and 35 minutes from Portland, Oregon. The lake was formed by a volcano, and you can find lava rock in the shallow areas of the lake. This state park has numerous campsites for tents, RV's, as well as four cabins, and primitive sites that one can hike into.
My family and I camped at Battleground Lake State Park from June 3rd to the 8th of this year. We stayed in a cabin for our visit. The cost of the cabin is forty dollars a night. The cabin sleeps four with a bunk bed (one bed on the bunk bed is a full size bed) and a fold out futon. The cabins have a small table with four chairs, the bunk bed and futons, a table with a small lamp, electrical outlets, and heat. The mattresses on the beds are very thin, so not the most comfortable and you must bring your own bedding. The cabin also has a small covered porch which is great for when it rains. The sites have a grill and a fire pit, as well as a picnic table. The sites are surrounded by Douglas Firs, Cedar, Maple trees and more, providing a beautiful setting.
Some of the wildlife you may see here are chipmunks, squirrels, deer, rabbits, (all of which we saw), foxes, raccoons, coyotes, hawks, jays, woodpeckers, and more. Although not listed as one of the parks regularly seen animals, we also saw a Bald Eagle and heard a bear.
The park has hiking, biking, and horse trails, a softball, baseball and volleyball field, a badminton area, interpretive activites, bird watching, and an amphitheatre.
The lake is considered a smaller version of Crater Lake in Oregon and offers fishing, swimming (though too cold when we went), a dock, and boat ramp. The lake has trout, bass, and catfish and is regularly stocked with these, making fishing here great. The park also offers paddle boats for rent for five dollars an hour though to our dismay we were told that the boats had not been fixed from last year and were unavailable.
There is a park store that offers burgers, fries, ice, firewood, fishing supplies, drinks, and candy but was only open Saturday and Sunday while we were there. However, this may be because we were there before the actual summer season.
If you want to get away from the camp for a few hours, you can drive in to Battleground, Washington (about 10 or so miles) and visit the cute little antique and thrift shops, or head for the Fred Meyer, Albertsons, or Safeway. There is also a little joint called Burgerville with the best burgers, fries, and shakes all made fresh.
Our stay at Battle Ground Lake State Park was incredible. The scenery and wildlife is stunning and refreshing and the park employees are friendly, courteous, and very helpful.

After buying many different types and brands of sneakers only to have each one of them hurt my feet, I went out again today in search of a new pair. This time I ended up in a store called Sport Haus. This is located in the Poulsbo Village. Here I was waited on immediately and experienced the best of customer service. When I told the employee helping me that I needed a new pair of sneakers, she asked me to roll up the bottom of my pants and walk back and forth. I did this as she watched me walk. She told me the purpose of this was to see how my natural walk was and informed me that I tend to roll my feet inward when walking. This, along with what I needed the shoes for(walking and circuit training) told her exactly what kind of shoes I needed. She then measured my feet to find that I have two different sized feet (pretty common). One is a size eight, the other a size eight and a half. Therefore, I would need a size NINE, because my biggest foot is size eight and a half, and for circuit training, I want the shoe to run a little on the bigger side.
I truly feel like I recieved exceptional customer service and professional advice and assistance. I highly recommend this store for anyone in the need for a new pair of shoes.

As an avid book reader, the Poulsbo Library is one of my favorite places. As well as books, they also offer internet access on their computers. They frequently have story time for children of all ages. My five year old daughter loves to go to the pajama story book hour where children are encouraged to show up in their pajamas for the reading! I do have to say that I wish that their selection of books were a bit larger, but for a relatively small town, this library is pretty good.
