Happy what? I know there are some parts of the country that do not have medeteraian restaurants and eateries, especially outside of large cities. Ashland is kind of special in that regard as we have culinary delights from around the world.
My 12 year old loves this place. It offers healthy food (and good prices for this town). Servings are generous. They make fries that rival anyone else's.
The people who work here are always friendly and polite. We like eating here.

If you need your big rig, trailer, RV or SUV washed, B&H truck wash is a good place to go. Gary has been running this business for years and has developed a system that is environment friendly. While you are waiting, you can sit down and watch the birds that congregate back there, for Gary is also a "friend of the birds" and has quite a sanctuary. It is amazing to watch. Some of the flocks have been coming back year after year as they migrate down south.
From the street, it does not look like much, but this business is a good one and I recommend them.

Down in the railroad district, you can find numerous art galleries, but one that you need to visit is Nuwandart. Why? Instead of trying to offer what "sells", this is a place that values art for the sake of art.
What is that supposed to mean?
For one thing, you just never know what will be on display at this place. It could be something weird. Maybe something disturbing. It is guaranteed to be something that will provoke thought, and in my opinion that is what an art gallery should try to do. Art should make us question things.
Every once in awhile, you'll even see something beautiful here. You just never know.
It's worth a visit.

Every Tuesday from April through the end of November, the Ashland Grower's Market can be found at the old Ashland Armory. You can buy farm fresh produce and talk to the people who planted the food that you choose.
I like how this open air market is friendly (you'll see most of Ashland walk through on any given Tuesday) and many of the booths offer free samples so you can try some new things.
Looking for a special gift? You'll find beautiful artistic offerings from locals as well.
It's a feast for the eyes, mind and soul. It's good for you and the community too!

I remember when WalMart first moved into Talent. Small mom and pop businesses shut down within a few years. A few places remain, but they had to dance hard to stay in business and compete with the giant. The Ace Hardware store comes to mind. Where else can you buy a hammer and a bottle of booze? They had to open up a liquor store in order to stay open.
Now old "family values" Wally is pulling up stakes and moving out. How many people will lose their jobs? What will become of this sleepy little town now that the biggest employer is moving?
I hate WalMart! I hate everything it stands for.
American values, family values? I hope not.

I love saving money and whenever I can shop somewhere and enjoy a discount, I will. Grocery Outlet has discounted food, housewares, gifts and toys and it is a fun place to browse. The food is generally very short dated, but I have never had a bad experience with anything and they offer a "satisfaction guarantee", so if something is not fresh, you can return it for a full refund. Not many stores are generous enough to allow customers the option of returning food in this day and age.
I like looking for toys here too because their prices are always very good. I saw several good toys that I will probably get my kids for Christmas here.
It's a fun place!

I had to run into Albertson's just yesterday because we were out of a few things. The first thing I noticed about this location is that they actually had several infant/baby carts available. This might not seem like a big deal to some of you, but then you probably have not been lugging around a twenty-two pound baby for a few days. Some stores do not have many baby friendly carts.
We were in and out of this store quickly and the store checker was friendly. It was a nice shopping trip and I like this store.

We often stop in this little store on our way out to the cemetery in Tumalo and the people who work here are always nice and quick to help. They carry a wide variety of drinks and some general types of food. It is a convience store more than a general grocery store.
They offer movie rentals, sell lottery tickets and ice.
If you need food or drink in a hurry and you are out that way, this is a good place to stop at.

Truck stops are generally good places to eat at (as long as you like home style American food), and Jake's is a good place to go if you are hungry for a big old fashioned breakfast. I hope you're not worried about your heart because you will probably order something your doctor would sigh over, like eggs with big strips of bacon and a huge mound of hash browns and a side of pancakes. Or my husband's favorite choice of biscuits and gravy. Portions are huge and the food is good.
Service is always good too, but be prepared as they are always very busy and crowded.

The joke among my friends was that we could all just get kids meals and we'd come out really full. Seriously.
I remember their fries and their homemade fry sauce. They are very generous with everything.
I guess they have other things on the menu, but we always got burgers at Pilot Butte. Just don;t eat too many, or you might start looking like the side of the butte.
It's a really good place to eat at!
