I don’t travel into Queens very often, so when I do, it’s got to be for a good reason, and the beer garden definitely meets these qualifications. This place is basically a large open, fenced in, outdoor space with lots of picnic tables. In the summer, the place is packed, and it is lots of fun. They have all sorts of beers, and apparently they have other forms of alcohol too, but no one really orders them (a friend of mine ordered a glass of wine and got strange looks as she carried the glass from the bar to the table). I definitely recommend this place if you like beer and a fun, social atmosphere!

I’ve been to Aer a couple of times since I had heard great things about it, but both times I wasn’t very impressed. The line is ridiculously long, some of my friends weren’t even able to get in. The place is also extremely crowded and the drinks are expensive. It took me almost a half hour of waiting at the bar to even get a drink. We ended up leaving way before the party was over since we couldn’t stand the crowd anymore.

Happy Valley, formally known as Social Club, is located on 27th Street, between 5th and Madison in Manhattan. I have been to this place a couple times when it was Social Club, and a couple of times now that it is Happy Valley. They changed the place around when the club changed names, and while they originally added a huge, wide, circular staircase which took up a large portion of the downstairs area, I was glad to see they eliminated this last time I was there. This place is relatively small, but very cute. I like that they have a balcony on the second floor so you can overlook the first floor. I’ve always had a good time here, and I’m sure I’ll go back again.

I loved this club/lounge, and I would probably go back more often if it wasn’t in the middle of nowhere. Its located very far on the West Side of Manhattan, at 46th between 11th & West Side Highway. This club has a large dance floor which you can overlook from the balconies on the second and third floors. The DJ there was EXCELLENT and played great music with awesome mixes and transitions between songs. There is even a room upstairs which has three beds and pillows, which is kind of odd, but kind of cool. Another oddity is, in the “Mix” room, there are 2 glass showers, just out in the open, very strange indeed. This is a fun place, so if you are ever way far out on the west side, go check it out.

I’ve been here twice and each time I’ve had a fabulous time. This club is formally known as Ruby Falls, and still looks exactly the same as it did when it was Ruby Falls. Unfortunately, it is located very far out on the West Side, at 29th Street, between 11th and West Side Highway. The layout of the club is really cool, with a sort of “circular” and very open layout in this fairly small club. The bar is in the front in the center and there is also a bar in the very back. There are really nice booths around the outside, although if they have someone who pays for bottle service, they will bump you off the table. In the back area, there is a decent sized dance floor, and lots of good music playing.

This is one of my favorite places to get sushi, and specifically this location of Haru (Upper West Side) - I’ve found that some of the other locations (Times Square) aren’t as good. The sushi is always so fresh and delicious. It’s slightly pricey, but I find it definitely worth it since the food is so delicious. We have gone there many times and have never been disappointed!

This is a fun place in the 50s on the East Side that we go to fairly often. My favorite part is, when its warm out, going up to the large rooftop area, where they have a bar, and a whole bunch of tables. Often it is hard to get a table though. We sometimes bring cards and end up chilling there for a while. The crowd is mostly 20-something professionals.

I like a lot of bars in this area (50s on the East Side), so we sometimes stop by this place while we are in the area, usually during the happy hour time frame. Drinks are pretty cheap, but it gets pretty crowded. The main downfall to this place is that the music is so so loud. We end up shouting at each other just to make conversation, and then eventually not really talking because of the noise. Because of this we usually end up leaving after only one drink, and hopping to another bar.

I had my birthday party at this club at the end of 2004, and it was a nice place for a party. We had the whole front/side section which is slightly elevated from the main floor, and is right next to the bar. Towards the back is a large dance floor. The only downfall was, like many clubs/lounges in Manhattan, the line was quite long, and if my guests arrived after the guestlist closed, some of them never made it in since the line was too long. Also, while it was free for ladies before midnight, they charged $15 for the guys, even though we were quoted as $10 for the guys, when we had prior made reservations.
