If you are willing to walk a few blocks from the center of the universe, this is the best Thai in Fremont. The restaurant has a really weird, colorful décor, which I love, and seems like a mom and pop operation (though I can’t substantiate that claim). Best of all, there is never a wait for a table, and the food is really great for the price. I always get this kind of sweet red curry with peanuts…it is totally awesome and unique to this place.

I don’t usually like sporty/dive-y bars, but this one might be my favorite in town. The Rainbow has a comfortable, open floorplan, friendly service, a great bar, and is a good place to see live music. The location is a bit obscure, but it is right next to the famous Blue Moon.

I can’t believe how many people complained about the parking situation here! I think that this place kind of sucks, and I hate Lowe’s theatres in general, but we usually end up here on weekends because the number of screens, and the ample parking situation compared with the smaller, neighborhood theatres in the northern part of the city. I have never had a problem finding a space at Oak Tree, but I guess that if you perceive the parking situation as being sparse, then there really is no reason to bother coming here.

Some say that the Italian food here is merely middling, I say, so what? While it may be true that the dinner crowd is a bit…geriatric, I totally enjoyed my dining experience. The bottom line is that this is the same sort of middlebrow Italian fare one finds at a place like the Olive Garden, for similar prices. But why would you spend your money there, when you can dine here and get great service, better wine choices, and an excellent restaurant space and location?

I totally agree with Laural on this one. I always go to Scream, and they never fail to deliver a great haircut, color, or wax at a fair price. All of the hairdressers here are good, and I always enjoy the music playing on the P.A. I must differ on one small point though, that this is most certainly a unisex place…there are always a lot of guys there, and last time I was there a dude was cutting hair too. So make a date out of it, and have fun!

I’m not a connoisseur of tea by any means, but always really enjoy having a pot of tea here. It is a perfect place to read or study, or to have an intimate conversation. Yeah, the layout is a little weird and the food options are hit or miss, but overall this place is cute, and yet another attractive alternative to Starbucks.

The Tin Hat is such a great bar; I only wish that it were closer to where I live so that I could go there all the time. On second thought, if it was any closer I’d probably be spending all my money there. Anyway, it has a great, comfortable feel to it, good music, good food, games and awesome specials.

Kavu has a great line of sporty and outdoorsy attire and this location is their outlet store. With that said, most of the deals aren’t that great, except for the clearance section in the back and whatever rack they roll out onto the sidewalk. It can be tough to find your size, but sooo worth it when you do. I have found some terrific stuff here that has served me well on hiking trips.

If you are looking for weird, cheap toys and gag gifts, then Archie McPhee’s is probably a better choice in the neighborhood. On the other hand, I really enjoy Gifted’s selection of cards, and I’ve found a few unique and fun gift items there. In either case, it is a fun place to browse, and the shopkeepers are very nice.
