Sam’s club is owned by Wal-Mart. My excuse for having a membership is that I am from the east coast where we aren’t lucky enough to have Costco (yet!). The Aurora one is okay, but they don’t have a gas station, which is really the best reason to have a membership. The thing about Sam is that he loves to rip you off. One of the tricks that he has played on both me and a friend is this: when you renew a membership through your company, he takes a long time (sometimes months) to process the renewal. So you end up paying for a full year’s membership, except that you can’t shop there for the months that Sam is taking his sweet-ass time.

If you are looking for the ever elusive “New York Style” pizza in Seattle, then this may be as good as it gets. The pizza is pretty darn good, in that thin crusted, stripped down New York way. More importantly though, this place is as much a good dive bar as it is a pizza place, which makes it a really good hangout.

We ordered a deep dish pizza, and they brought us thin crust. Then, the waitress zipped off and never came back to check on us, so we were forced to eat it or starve. It wasn’t very good, but I have a feeling that the deep dish wouldn’t have been satisfactory either. The pizza here is bad folks; you pay through the nose for the ambiance. When we were finally able to complain, they apologized and gave us a free “orgasm” which I told them I liked, but if you want the truth, I was faking.

Ichiro in Magnolia is an awesome sushi and teriyaki place, as well as a full menu, full service, Japanese family restaurant. The prices are good, the service is lightning quick, and the fish is fresh. You can get in and out for a few bucks, or make a night of it with sake and mochi and miso. Oh my!

I agree. I was here for a show last weekend, and while the band was awesome, I could barely see them, even though I was near the front. They totally oversold the show…it was crushingly crowded in there. I can’t really recommend the bar either. My mixed drink wasn’t too strong, and my friend foolishly ordered the house merlot, which tasted like glue and came in a juice glass. If I was reviewing this based on the bookings alone I would give it five stars, but the whole package, not so much.

This is a great park for walking, running, birdwatching, playing with your dog, or whatever else it is that you do on weekends. There are wonderful views, and a really cool sculpture/structure thingy made of airplane wings or boat rudders or something…. (Maybe someone on here with a little more engineering knowledge can clue me in on their true nature?)

Carkeek is one of my favorite parks in Seattle. You are literally only a few blocks from Northgate Mall, and yet you can wader the extensive trail system and forget that you are in the city at all! There are places to play and picnic, and the beach is wonderful…not crowed, with great views and that romantic train trestle. In the summer, the volunteer naturalists will tell you all about the beach critters!

This listing is a bit misleading, because the sign out front of this place reads “Portlock Salmon.” With that said, this place is great! Just steps from the Ballard Locks, They sell a great selection of the Port Chatham seafood brand products, all packaged up and ready to be sent to your friends and relatives who live in areas not blessed with the Northwest’s abundance of salmon. Better yet though, is the fact that they serve lunch. You can get a bagel and Nova Lox sandwich…just like back east….so good!

I love a good greasy spoon, but Vera’s isn’t the greatest, or the cheapest greasy spoon in town. The hours are very limited, the service is rude, and the coffee is bad. On weekends, Vera’s proximity to the Sunday Market makes it a popular place, but it really isn’t worth the wait.

I have only been here for breakfast, but it was a totally excellent dining experience. Wonderful dishes from the mundane (bacon, eggs, hash) to the sublime (French toast with hazelnut mascarpone cream!) The old firehouse location is open, spacious and comfortable. Everything was excellent, and the prices were completely reasonable. Words to the wise though; time your visit carefully, as the place becomes intolerably crowded, with a long wait, starting around ten a.m. on weekends.
