Miracle of Science Cafe is a like a world in a glass bubble. surrounded on three sides by glass, this walk-in sit down haunt just steps from MIT Hotel and several longer strides for the MIT campus. No lab escapees here. No the envelope breakthrough cast about the floor, no testimonials to minds fired by science. This feels more like folks chowing down before hitting the mid-night show at the mid-East. or the late night club next door. Order a hot open-faced sandwich, spicy buffalo wings or other standards from the blackboard menu. You will have plenty of crisp to crunch and plenty of golden lager to wash it down.

Hong Kong Restaurant is oen of the odlest haunts in Cambridge. Go there at midnight, and you feel that middle of the day energy as if the palce were really running on Hong Kong local time. Every familair Chinese dish can be whipped up for you in just minutes, yet you can linger at the tables unitl closing.
They do not experiment too much with their menu but then again, the Hong Kong has always been that ready standby. Acast in a world that closes at 1 am
the Hong Kong can feed you unitl two. stay around Harvard Square long enough, and the Hong Kong will rescue you from that late night pangs. Upstairs, of course, there is the other world -- a jumping bar that feels more like a joint in Macao that Harvard Square.
It's Harvard students of course blowing off more steam than a stream engine. It is a hard dirnking, chain smoking crowed but heh -- this is macao. If you want
quaint, go back out into the Square.

Christian Science Reading Room is a throw-back to another era of dime-store religion and walk-in respites. It is much more a quiet respectfulitl place to
rest, read or reflect. Though it sits square in the middle of Church Street, it is definely not a church. It feels juch more like a quiet salon, tiny library or even-- no irony intended here -- a doctor's waiting room than a religious institution. Daily newspapers and Christian Science publications areneatly laid out, much more as accoutrements to the experience is sititng in nice easy chairs sorounded by galss and mirrors. Others come and go in this quite but not overly silent place.

The Border Cafe has action coming and going. Waiting on line jsut warms you up for the main dish inside. Be prepared to speak up -- the acoustics create sheer madness, making it sometimes it hard to hear. Yet most people are too busy diving into thier varied exotic tropical drinks, the mountainous stack of nachos, or thier scrumtuous Cajun and Blackened or refreid dishes. You will not go hungry, crazy or bored at the Border. It's a great mix of students, porofessionals and out-of- towners. The liveliest spot in Harvared square.

The Burren. There are 364 days a year when this locale is just another great Irish bar. Then there is St Patrick's Day. The day and the place are synonymus.
The Gaelic sound, the souls of angels mix with the ancient tribal gang feelings. Green here is a metaphor for all that borders on the wild and the magical. The Burren defines Davis Square, though many people pass it and never enter. It is really a haunt for the ancient youthful chalice of hope that rises to the top of the last great mug of memories you gulped. The Burren stands for the place where you ready yourself with bravery. No one knows you there but yet you are well understood.

The John Harvad Brew House is no glass house. No stones will shatter its stained glass. It is a an underground beer hub into which many descend. But few are frozen. Here, they find relief from thirst, a sabattical from bordeom. The cavenous underground chasm -- more shadow than light, more stark than sentimental -- is often filled with families =- juice and extended -- slews of toursits and Harvard hangars-on. There is very little danger of here of running into people you know from any other walk of life. The John Dunseter House is the Hard Rock Cafe of Harvard Square. This is no oasis of romance nor a fete de court. It is first, last and only -- a great burger joint. That's all. And that's enough.

The barbecued chicken is the cokc of the walk. London Broil of the steak tips will neverf disappoint. If the five downstaris screens are not enogh,
you can storll upstaris and take in the fifteen or so sports braodcasts likley to be on the ari at any time of day or night. You can't place a bet here but that'
sprobably the only difference in thea ir between this sports-crazed watering hole. Charlie's is one of the longest lasting shows in Harvard Sqauare and
very little there has changed. And that's fine.

Regatta Bar Just a few steps from the Charles Hotel's famed beakfast roudntable Henretta's Table. And therein lies hte difference.
Best of Boston Hall of Fame, The Charles Hotel's Regattabar brings the most dynamic live jazz to Cambridge and Boston.Check htem out on the web for a full schedule.
The Regatta Bar has low lights, low seats and
a salon kind of atmosphere in a wrap=around restaurant design that feels a bit like a train. The Regatta bar will offer one the right mix of regulars,
casuals and visitors to make the place one of the signature upstairs experiences in downstown Harvard Square. The acadmeic gloves comes off here. There is no wood panled walls or tradtional Ivy chamber decor. This is VC's night out, and your likely to learn alot about coming trends if not tomorrow's headliines if you keep your ears tuned and you can strike up a good conversation. And the help will fill you in on everything you missed earlier. But they cannot recreate that irreducible jazz -- so be there!

Henrieta's Table No one in Cambridge has a monopoly on Henriettas table. It's a big metaphor in a big tent and more than a watering well for the famous or the infamous. Breakfast at Henrietta's does not quite approach the intensity of living theratre. But it is Cambridge in the round. TV personalities, secretaries of state, controversial tenured professors, VC execs -- all hob nob there. But the relaxed tone and spacious design allow peope space but the freeodm to be informal with strangers -- of whatever social situaiton or influence.
