If you're standing in line to get the best to-go ordered taco in the City, you're probably at Agua Verde http://www.aguaverde.com/. It's popular, it's a bit cramped inside, and the location is a little off the beaten path, but it is enticing, it's relatively quiet outside, and a great location if you're at the UW Med center or the University. People rave about the flavors and they're right, but it does cost a little bit more and if you just want a cheap place to eat, you probably won't like it. When you go, expect to wait in line for at least five or ten minutes, because it is good. They apparently rent kayaks too -- I have not, so cannot comment on that, other than to say a burrito on the lake sounds nice.

For those who don't have time to pack a healthy lunch, this conveniently located restaurant is a nice alternative. When I was at the Qdoba http://www.qdoba.com in Redmond/Overlake, there were about 90 people packed inside, so it's not a quite, intimate place. But the food as a little more 'integrity' than the typically produced mass-market foods served at larger Mexican chains, the ingredients used seem more like what someone might make on their own, if they had the time. The lunch crowd appears able to afford something more expensive and the fact that they choose to eat here says something about its quality. They accept orders via fax. They have many "naked" items on their menu for those counting carbohydrates.

McCormick & Schmick's http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/index.cfm?http://www.mccormickandschmicks.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=content.display&pageid=96&id=82 is part of a national chain of seafood restaurants. Before entering this Lincoln Square location, right next to the 3-story waterfall, it's obvious that one could spend a lot of money here. But what I usually do is take a sharp right turn at the door, head to the bar and order from their $2 Happy Hour menu, which is so good that it seems like a typical loss-lead. Don't get me wrong! The wooden booths elsewhere in the establishment do make for a very elegant dining experience, but I would rather show some compassion for the fish.

Some of Kanishka's Microsoft contingent have supposedly made the switch to this venue, and not just because it was closer. Expect their lunch buffet to be packed, and come early if you can to get the best of the desserts, usually Gulaab Jamun, Gajar squares and those sweet brown Lentil? squares, which is probably the best part. Each dish is fresh and distinctive and this compensates for the fact that it's not the largest buffet in town.

It's usually an indication that a Chinese restaurant will be good when the owners make appropriate Feng-Shui adjustments to the site, like bamboo, deity statutes, moon-shaped entrances, gold-colored shiny things and flowers. But don't take that as a sign that the food isn't loaded with MSG -- which is true here too. It is moderately priced and a good value for the money. Of concern to me are the bowl of skittles by the cash register -- if they don't mind everybody putting their hands in the same bowl of unwrapped candy then what other hygiene considerations do they ignore? However, the food is well prepared, and the portions substantial, so I recommend dining as part of a group rather than alone if you go here.

They do a great job with the "Washington LawHelp" website http://www.washingtonlawhelp.org that they maintain, which provides great information and is a good adjunct to Nolo.com resources. But face it, in our current legal system thousands of innocent people are delcared guilty every year, and the rich get the sort of legal representation that can literally let them get away with murder, like OJ Simpson. But they may help you to not get burned as badly!

For about a century, the Mountaineers have helped climbers in our area to climb safely, and to have good places to climb. They know the best places and go regularly. They perpetuate their knowledge and skills through classes taught by seasoned climbers. And they collaborate to protect these beautiful places. I'm not a member, but have talked to those who have been involved, and it sounds like the best place to find a relevant carpool or other hikers. If hiking was my passion, I would definitely be found there.

Their shelves have more interesting items per square foot than other book stores. Their expansion to used books followed this forethought, because they're not big enough to effectively compete with the larger stores unless they work smarter. Many like the 'historic district' look of their dungeon of a cafeteria with their ultra-cheap books lining the walls. The whole place has character and class.

I told someone from California that in Seattle we sometimes see a "glowing-ball thing," yellowish in color, that somehow turns the ordinarily gray sky a bluish color. It appears to be about three miles across and about 50 miles above the earth, climbing in the Eastern sky in the early part of the day and gradually making its evening descent somewhere in the West. "Do you mean 'the Sun'?" was the reply. In Seattle, we don't get a lot of that glowing-ball thing in our diet and sometimes need a supplement, and the Indoor Sun Shoppe http://www.indoorsun.com/ has many props that will help interested parties to stage the illusion that we really live in the tropics. Full Spectrum Lights may help the SAD http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasonal_affective_disorder sufferers to not feel like hibernating. The exotic plants, decor and insects to go with them will help to complete the illusion.

This is "The Four Seasons" of gardening stores. So if your tastes aren't refined, you might be happier buying your flowers at some place like Safeway. Molbak's 15 acre golf-course sized store will probably have whatever you may need for your garden. Their 36 acre computer controlled growing facility is the source of 80% of the plants that they sell, according to their website http://69.93.14.252/ You won't need to spend lots of time checking to see which plants will remain viable if planted, because many of Molbak's 200 or so employees constantly care for them. They have enough room for more exotic and interesting plants like Golden Dawn trees, Monkey Puzzle trees, lotuses, Antler Lichens, and variegated Japanese Maple trees. Don't expect to get any 'bargains' here, you can get many of the less exotic plants for half the price elsewhere, but it's hard to find such a beautiful specimens anywhere else.
