For some reason I prefer CVS to Walgreen's. It just seems cleaner, more organized, more professional somehow. I come here for beauty products, snacks, cleaning items - pretty much anything I can get that will save me a trip from the larger chain grocery stores. Be sure to pick up a CVS ExtraCare card. Have them scan it before every purchase you make and pretty soon coupons start printing up with your receipts, often ones that are as good as cash. Like "$5 off any purchase over $20." That's totally the same thing as a free $5! It also seems to keep track of what kind of products you buy and prints coupons for offers on things it thinks you will like. This is definitely my kind of store.

I have to admit the clothes here are really, really, really cute. Cute, sexy, hot, trendy, all of that. Enough that I'm only slightly put off by Paris Hilton modeling them. But with the cost of single clothing items at $100+, can anyone besides the socialite-gone-wrong actually afford them? Even the discount rack is way beyond my means. I feel totally out of place in this store. Every time I look at price tag and walk away from an item I feel like everyone is judging me, knowing I'm not one of "them." As much as I like the clothes, it's just not worth the cost and the stress of shopping here. There are cute clothes for a lot less without the snootiness other places.

I think this place just opened up some time last year. I was pretty excited to have a new tapas restaurant open on the North side but after going there I realized we really weren't missing anything. The food is good, the sangria is just ok, the atmosphere and service average, but the prices are much higher than they should be. The prices are above average for just an average restaurant, so for tapas it makes more sense to head downtown and go to Iberico where you get better food and a better deal.

This company, out of Wisconsin, will not try to sell you by offering dozens of low-fat or low-carb desserts. In fact, they will come right out and tell you they use full-fat everything, a bunch of creamy, rich, natural ingredients in their ice cream. They may not have quite the selection of Cold Stone, but they do often have unique flavors that change frequently. The service is very nice and friendly, the atmosphere is welcoming, and they also sell chocolates, pastries, and other yummy treats. In the summer there is almost a line out the door here but it's worth the wait. There is just something real traditional and satisfying about the ice cream here - you can't feel bad eating it even if you are trying to stick to a healthy diet.

I am not proud of myself that I subscribe to Comcast. I would rather go with a less-popular company like RCN, but the price really isn't any different - except that Comcast offers a 3 month special on cable and/or internet so why wouldn't I want to save a few bucks? Let's face it - Cable and Internet are just plain expensive, probably for no reason, but whether you go with that or satellite, you're just going to spend a lot of money. One thing that really ticked me off though was when I was setting up an appointment to get service installed, I saw online that you can get installation as low as $29.99 if you run the software yourself instead of having the technician do it. If they do it, it jumps up to $49.99. Well the person on the phone tried to tell me there is no $29.99 option but she'll discount it "this time" since I had a problem? Umm, hello - it's right on the company's website. I am NOT crazy, so please don't patronize me as such.

I really like shopping here for work clothes. Some selections are a little too "adult-like" for me (I just finished college and don't think of myself that way yet) but most of their tops are really super cute. I don't buy pants here because they don't fit really well - I think the sizes run kind of big so I go elsewhere for those. But as far as tops and accessories, you get some good work-appropriate clothes for the price. I am a NY&C card holder so I also get sweet offers in the mail, such as $30 off a purchase of $75 - that's like getting something for free! Deals like that definitely keep me coming back.

This is right around the corner from my old apartment. I was at first so excited to live so close to a bar - the spot where the owner parks his car is practically my old back yard. Inside, it's clear that the name is fitting. There's a rail from an old train track that wraps around the bottom of the bar and artistic photographs of train hang on the walls while the Brown line (Damen stop) is right across the street. It doesn't look like a bad little place to have a drink or get some bar food, but it doesn't take long to realize there is something seriously wrong here. It's not just that the service is horrible - these girls seem downright miserable. They act like they've all been abused or something, like it would kill them to crack a smile. Once in a while there's a nice girl, but no one there seems to last very long. Every time I've gone in there are new bartenders and servers working there, and they never have any knowledge of their own menu or liquor or wine selection. They have no idea what they serve most of the time. Plus it's so unnecessarily loud - the music is blaring like it's some kind of club when it's just a neighborhood bar where, believe it or not, people actually want to have conversations.
I'd say skip the rail and head a few blocks down to Lincoln Square for a nice neighborhoody experience.

Everything in here is really cute/funny/amusing/interesting to look at. A lot of the clothes look great from the window, but when I go in and look at them up close, I find a million reasons why I would probably actually never wear them, the price tag not the least of such reasons.
Same goes for their other merchandise. Their decorations might look nice in a freshman year dorm room but definitely lose their appeal after that. They have a strange and interesting collection of books and random items for sale - the kind best read while sitting on the toilet. Basically this is the kind of store to go to if you want to kill some time, but don't have any money to spend because buyer's remorse is inevitable. And it's definitely too expensive here to buy something that you'll never look at again.

Out of all the bars in Chicago, there is absolutely no reason to go to Bar Chicago. It's too lit up for one thing which feels awkward. The service is horrible and it's either empty or too crowded. I have never had anything good happen here. The men are not just obnoxious - they are predatory. I once caught a couple guys actually trying to give my friend and I drugged drinks. Seriously. And another time my friend checked her expensive leather coat and they "accidentally" gave it away to someone else - who obviously didn't have the coat check ticket for it. Bottom line is Bar Chicago is the worst bar in Chicago.

This is a pretty big store with lots of clothes to choose from. They range from funky to trendy to completely offbeat. I find that actually a lot of the selections are a little offbeat, which is nice, but sometimes hard to match with clothes I already have. I feel like sometimes I don't like anything here, and sometimes I want a lot of stuff. Usually I end up leaving here with a few new articles of clothing like skirts or shirts, but it's not somewhere I would expect to find a whole new wardrobe. Also, because of the selection and pretty cheap prices, it can get pretty busy which can be frustrating.
