Well last night this place provided a much welcomed relief from the insane crowd at SoPo after midnight. Conveniently right across the street and still very near the brown line Southport stop, Mystic Celt had much more floor and seating space and service at the bar was much more reasonable. So even though there definitely were plenty of people there, the effects on everyone else were not as great. It's nice to be able to actually move your arms or walk around once in a while! I thought the decor was somewhat lacking, as the interior aesthetics were rather bland, but that's a minor detail compared to everything else.

Yes this place is exactly as the name describes. Although from what I'd heard prior to going here, it's supposed to be somewhat of a happening place, at least among those in the immediate vicinity - I wouldn't expect it to exactly be a destination otherwise. But it was rather dead on "hump night," a little disappointing, but still a good time nonetheless.
The bartender was very helpful - when my friend didn't like his beer selection (and they do have some good selections) he was given the beer for free and allowed to choose another one.
Also there is a parking lot for use by The Long Room patrons right next door, which is greatly convenient unless you've had too many beers, which is easy to do here!

I met a group of about 10 or 11 here and we snagged the front table so it would be easy to meet up. Well, luckily the table was near the bar because the waitress absolutely STANK. So I started a tab at the bar. The bartender was also very rude and pretentious, even spilling like half of my martini as she handed it to me and walking away as if nothing happened. When I stood at the bar waiting for a drink, the waitress (who should have been doing her job serving our table) would literally PUSH me out of the way so she could ring up stuff for another table. No one was being obnoxious or loud or drunk or anything, so there was no reason for this behavior.
On a more positive note, the decor here is really hip and swanky. It's a very aesthetically pleasing joint, but don't expect the service to feel like it.

This place is a crowded, come-as-you-are and just have fun kind of atmosphere. While some frequenters dress and act like you'd expect for the other bars in the area, for the most part the expectations here are pretty low, except that you just have fun, drink a lot, and be open to meeting new people.
I am not sure if this is a normal occurrence or not or if it happens more here than other places, but there was quite a fight here over the weekend. The entire door was knocked off the hinges and people were on the ground as punch after punch was thrown. Quite entertaining!

I ended up here after shutting down a few of the 2am bars in the area, so this, for one, is a good late night alternative for when you just don't want the party to end yet (although you probably should). There's room for danging, mingling, sitting, chilling, and of course drinking throughout. The looks of the place inside live up to the name - think lots of red lights, which actually creates a pretty cool and interesting atmosphere. Although it was late, I did get a fun impression from this place so I would probably make a point to return before 2am next time!

But that's not a bad thing! Barleycorn's is supposed to be, like, THE place for "trixies" and "chads" (if you read craigslist, you will know what these are) but after going there for the first time, it kind of felt to me that I was in just another bar. I didn't really feel there was anything that made this bar more or less trendy than any other. It was pretty big and people just pretty much stuck with those they came in with - there wasn't much mingling, or as the case could have been, flirting or attempted hook ups or anything. Not to say this would never go on here, but I didn't pick up on it. I thought it was kind of chill, although I might add that service from the lady bartenders was a bit chilly in itself.

Let me just being by saying there is a darn good reason why this place is called "Tai's til 4." Yes, it's open til 4, but that's also how late you end up staying there. No you won't plan on it when you walk in the door but that's just what happens. There are some nice friendly drunk regulars talking a little smack with the bartenders who easily dish it right back, or perhaps were the instigators in the first place which makes for a lot of fun. They will talk to anyone so it's a good place to mingle if you don't mind that it's a little more rough around the edges than some of the trendier spots. It's very easy to mingle and have a good time here, and before you know it time just flies and it's closing time - yep, 4am. Even on a Monday.

This place has a nice feel - not to brightly lit, classy color scheme and decor, and excellent proximity to the brown line (directly across the street). Food prices are reasonable and quality selections, though there are a few "bar foods" available they seem trustworthy enough to eat! Service seemed just a bit scattered, as it was sometimes difficult to get the waitress's attention even as she stood at the end of the table and had no problem taking other orders - she just didn't look around to see if anyone else needed anything. But it could just be a one time fluke. Overall this is a nice place to hang out later in the night or right after work with a group of friends for drinks and appetizers!

Well, not like size matters or anything, except on a Saturday night when everyone is out and you want to actually have room for yourself and your friends at the bar! I ended up at Kincade's in such an instance, and while for the most part it's just a typical 20/30 something somewhat trendy bar, this place has 3 levels so there's a good chance you will actually be able to find a place for yourselves here when all else fails. And often times it does. Bar hopping is certainly fun but not when you're ready to sit down and relax. So give Kincade's a try.

There's a reason this place boasts the title of "Biggest sports bar in the Midwest" or something along those lines. I was here over the weekend for the Final 4 and it was just one huge overwhelming sports bar. There's a huge back room, huge front room, upstairs, and when it gets warmer out a large outside patio as well. I've also been here for concerts (country, anyone?), and seen actually 3 bands playing at once at various parts throughout this bar. It's really that big. Which means it can be hard to find someone you're looking for, but you meet up eventually. And service actually isn't bad - it's not hard to get a drink around here.
