What's really nice about this place, although there are many fabulous-looking bars in this area, is that it offers a variety of environments in which to sit. You can sit outside, or in a half enclosed beer garden area, or in a fully enclosed back room, or just up front at the bar. Something for everyone. Despite lots of space it can get crowded, which is nice if you like to mingle. The service is slow, not just in my experience but in what I hear from others. If you're not in a hurry it's not a big deal. The service could also be more personable but again that's a matter of personal taste. Overall this is a cool place to go grab food or have drinks with a group of people - it's a lot of fun.

This Andersonville spot was not on my list of places to go until Hopleaf was WAY too full one night (surprise, surprise) and I needed somewhere else to go for a quick drink and appetizer. I was pleasantly surprised to find friendly, prompt service, decent beer selection (I could still get my Delirium Tremens), and large appetizer portion sizes (get the zucchini, it's very good). I would come back here now some other time and actually plan to, instead of ending up here out of default.

While of course this place can get crowded at night, as with everywhere, it's also a nice place to get lunch or an early dinner on a Sunday. It's MUCH less crowded, and a nice way to possibly nurse a hangover...Anyway, you can eat outside, then move inside for the music and have some drinks. Or the other way around! The live jazz is definitely fun, the decor is inviting, and drinks are pretty good. The servers honored our strange requests (each of us ordered something like cranberry juice and vodka, orange juice, water, chocolate milk - EACH), which is always an added bonus!

It's hard to tell when you're in here if you're in a cute little bistro, or a cheap diner in the middle of nowhere along some unknown highway. But regardless, it's not a bad place to stop and get some food, or a drink. It is located right next to Roosevelt University and across the street from Grant Park. It's a good place to go between classes, or during a fire drill. Also in the summer they have an outdoor seating area which is a nice set up to get breakfast in the morning.

Whenever I'm hungry and feel like a good hearty meal and everything else is closed, I remember that this place is still open, serving food till close to 4am. It's not quite fine dining, but still really, really nice. Plus it's Irish, and that always suits my fancy. You can also come here and just have a drink. Compared to most other places in the area, Dublin's is far less snooty. You may find some loud, drunk, and rowdy people in here, but rare are the ones that don't mean well. And just as many are there for a nice dinner and won't display any boisterousness.

I read on another site that Red Line Tap was a good place to hear live music, as they have a variety of genres of bands that play throughout the week. Well I went on Saturday night and the cover was $5 a piece, which was partially waved down to a 2-for-1, which ended up still not being worth it. The bar area I sat down at was still dirty - the last patron's potato chips and bag were all over the place - rather disgusting, but still not as bad as the sound coming from the stage. I don't know the name of this group, but they should never have left the garage. No offense. They had mediocre control of their instruments and successfully created a punk/rock sound, but the singer sounded like a tone-deaf pre-pubescent who really needed to be put out of his misery.
The bartender was friendly, and the doorman was generous in his reduction of the cover charge.
I'd go back to check out the bluegrass band, but I don't recommend returning on a Saturday night.

I was very impressed by Tagine, a Moroccan restaurant near Lincoln Square that just opened about 2 weeks ago. Owner Richard Mouhcine has put a personal touch on everything and makes sure his guests are satisfied. The prices are incredibly cheap (for now), especially for the high quality of food, overseen by chef Eddie Maettaoui. If you come with a group, try to snag the seat near the window that is low to the ground and covered with cushions. Seems to be a cozy, typical Moroccan style. Also, it's BYOB and there's a liquor store right across the street on Lawrence, just in case you forget to come prepared!

At first glance there doesn't seem to be anything real special about Ricochet. A bar, a pool table, darts and jukebox. Old people, young people, ugly people, and a few decent looking ones. It's not trendy, but not creepy. Right in the heart of Lincoln Square. Sometimes you have to be really drunk to enjoy it. But the drink prices certainly will help you get there! Last time I actually paid for a drink for myself, if I recall, a Jack and Diet was probably not more than $2.50, maybe even less. Either way, you really can't complain. I'm sure a vodka tonic wouldn't do much more damage, at least to your wallet.
Oh, and if you see any unusual chalk drawings in the back behind the pool table, it probably means that I was there.

I originally came here to sell some clothes I didn't want anymore. They give you cash (albeit not a huge sum) for your gently used still trendy name brand clothes, but they are pretty picky - they have to still be in pretty new condition, and purchased within the last year. Those standards can be kind of hard to meet if you are selling clothes, but that's good news if you buy clothes from there because they really are good clothes in great condition. It really saves a lot of money to buy from here and let's be honest, no one can really tell that you are wearing second hand clothes. I wouldn't recommend trying to put together a whole new wardrobe here but I like it for their great selection of jeans and occasionally a nice shirt.
