For many years my family has gone to the Outer Banks of North Carolina for summer vacations. We always stay in a gorgeous beach house in Nags Head that is right on the ocean. Here's a http://www.resortrealty.com/book/house.html?Num=5711
It is a perfect place for families to get together, and it sleeps up to ten people. The kitchen is big and there is plenty of space for everyone. The beach is literally just yards away, and offers good surfing, fishing, seashell collecting and just plain ol' jumping around in the water.
If you don't want to spend all day on the beach, there is also excellent shopping and dining within walking distance. There is even an outlet mall nearby! This place brings back wonderful memories for me. Just make sure you book well in advance, because the Outer Banks have gotten quite popular in recent years. You can rent it through Resort Realty.

As anyone who banks with Citibank in upstate NY knows, all of our local branches have now been sold to M&T Bank. This means that we have no choice but to become M&T customers, or close our accounts. I have several complaints about the way this process was handled.
1.) We were given only about 1 month's notice of the sale. That is not enough time for some automatic debits that I have set up to be switched over to the new account number.
2.) I now have the hassle of changing all of my direct deposits and automatic debits.
3.) As of today (two days after the sale to M&T became official) I have not been notified of my new account number.
4.) I had to activate a new debit card and the two cards had zero overlap. Through July 30th I was supposed to use the Citibank card. As of July 1st I am now supposed to activate and use the M&T card.
5.)Online access to my Citibank account info was shut off on July 30th. I cannot even sign up for online access to my new M&T account until July 3rd.
6.) I have not received new checks, nor any information about whether I can continue to use the Citibank checks. (Of course rent is due....)
7.) Because of the holiday and the conversion, my local branch is closed through Monday. M&T has more limited customer service hours by phone.
Those are my main complaints right now. I will write another review for M&T once I am more familiar with their service.

My husband and I ate at Don Pablo's for the first time last night for the first time. It is a chain Mexican restaurant in Henrietta. We had tried to go once or twice before, but found the wait to be too long on weekend evenings. This time it was mid-week and there was no wait at all. The complimentary tortilla chips were disappointingly bland and a one or two were slightly burnt. We definitely needed the salsa that accompanied them.
I had a fajita salad which I quite enjoyed - the chicken and grilled veggies were juicy and hot, the dressing was flavorful and there was plenty of grated cheese. My husband was less impressed with his "margarita enchilada" (a new special) because the sauce had a somewhat odd flavor. The decor is predictably kitschy - modeled after a Mexican cantina, but with very high warehouse-type ceilings. The service started out strong, but near the end of our meal the server disappeared for an irritatingly long time and we were left staring at our empty plates and waiting for the check. A mixed bag, but we will probably give this place another try.

I've been going to Dr. Eufemia Mariano for two years now, and been very happy with her. Her annual exams are the least unpleasant of any I've had. She is quick, thorough and efficient. I have not had any children so I can't comment on that aspect of her work.
The waiting room is attractive and stocked with lots of magazines. The nurses are pleasant and helpful in answering questions. The only downsides are 1.) that they are booked several weeks in advance so you need to plan ahead in setting up your appointment and 2.) parking is not free ($2-5 depending how long you are there.) Other than those two minor drawbacks, I would recommend this practice to any woman.

I've been going to Maggie Moo's for many years - first in Topeka, Kansas then in Denver, and now in New York. I absolutely love their ice cream (about 50 flavors!), but what makes it special is the "mix-ins" :
Almonds, Bananas, Brownies. Butterfingers
Cappuccino Chips. Cherries, Cookie Dough, Gummy Bears, Heath Bar. Kit Kat, M&M's, Raspberries.
Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.... the list goes on an on! The ice cream an mix-ins are stirred for you on a marble slab (which also softens the ice cream slightly) and placed in a cup or crispy cone. Maggie Moo's is a bit more expensive than your run-of the mill ice cream place, but for an occasional treat, it is worth it!!

I attended the Pittsford Middle School production of the Wizard of Oz last Saturday night and was totally blown away!! The level of artistic talent was far above anything I've ever seen at that age level. There were a few actors involved in the show that were clearly high schoolers or older, but still it was very impressive. The sets and backdrops and special effects looked great, and the pit orchestra sounded fairly polished. I especially loved the flying monkeys that came swooping in from the audience on roller blades. They also drew a large and enthusiastic crowd. Look for more excellent productions to come from this impressive school!

If you are a fan of live local music and good coffee, the Boulder Coffee Company is the place to be. I visited the shop recently on a Thursday night and there was a lively crowd there to see two gentlemen singing and accompanying themselves on acoustic guitar and banjo (!) They have a small stage at one end with lighting and sound equipment. The staff is friendly and service is quick. If you are not there for the music you may find that seating is a bit limited, but there are a few tables in back. The menu includes 6-8 different types of coffee each day, along with teas, espresso cappuccino, lattes and smoothies. There is also a refrigerated case with baked goods, desserts and something called "taco pie." (Might be good, I didn't try it.) Parking is limited and a bit hard to get out of.

Matthew's East End Grill offers 25-cent wings and $2 beer specials on Monday nights. They offer a couple of different wing sauce flavors including Cajun, and the regular Buffalo. They also have burgers, salads, sandwiches and a few soup options including chili. There is a good-sized bar area near the door, and table seating on the other side of a dividing wall. Occasionally the service here is a bit distracted. For example, on the night we were there the server rushed off before we could tell her everything we wanted. However, she was very pleasant and we did eventually get everything. The food was good and the atmosphere relaxed and fun.

I had lunch at Salena's Restaurant in the Village Gate recently, and I wasn't overly impressed. It may be different at dinnertime, but the food seemed rather tired and uninspired to me. The prices were reasonable, but the atmosphere was generally kind of blah (think: plastic cacti). It doesn't help that the restaurant is located in Village Gate, which is a strangely empty and weird little area. The staff seemed pleasant and competent, but the overall dining experience was lacking. It seems like they need some fresh ideas and a revamped menu to shake things up a bit.

I just want to Thali of India for the first time on the recommendation of a coworker. Wow, their brunch is great!! They have a large selection of different classic Indian dishes including curry, rice, vegetables, dumplings, chickpeas, spinach with farmer's cheese and much more. At Sunday brunch they also bring freshly made dosas (similar to a crepe with a spiced potato filling) to the table, along with fluffy naan bread. I found that my favorites were the vegetarian dishes, though I'm not a vegetarian. I found everything to be flavorful and well prepared. The buffet also includes tasty masala tea.
This restaurant recently redecorated, and I love the colorful new curtains in the windows. The artificial flowers and greenery seem a bit overdone to me, but overall the place looks good. The service is pleasant and attentive. There was a pretty good crowd at noon on a Sunday, but no one had to wait more than a few minutes for a table. The brunch is a real bargain at around $7, and if you are a student show your student ID and you will pay a discounted price of only $5.99!! The restaurant is easy to find in Winn-Jeff Plaza just north of the intersection of Winton and Jefferson on Winton. There is plenty of parking in front.
