This place is so well-regarded for its risotto dishes that many don't even know that it's actually a specialty gluten-free restaurant. It also offers pizzas (they taste great, the the crust is obviously not traditional pizza dough) and pastas, and is a real treat for those with gluten-sensitivities, because there's no need to be careful or ask 100 questions before ordering.

Patricia Field is the source for the outrageous. From corsets and cancan panties to punk-rock fashion and dominatrix boots to fit even a drag queen, if you want it loud, you want it here. There's also a wig shop and a makeup counter (which is probably _the_ best place in New York to get your eyebroas tweezed). If you haven't been are you sure you really live here?

This dive has the best pizza by the slice in Manhattan hands down. It's like Brooklyn Pizza -- doughty, sweet and with lots of garlic. This place is unairconditioned and a totally ugly, but it can't be beat. It's been there for decades and there's a reason. Get your pizza to go and sit in the park across the street.

If you're producting theatre or other art as a non-profit entity you must register with the incredible resource that is materials for the arts. An amazing warehouse full or cool stuff to help you make your production a reality. You can't get stuff from them if you're not a registered non-profit, but once you are this place can help you relieve all sorts of production stressors. The weirdest bits of trivia wind up there (as things are always redonated back to the place). It's a bit like the museum of discarded theatre in its way.

I often forget about this theater, but it's new, clean and has huge screens. The seats are good, but the conscessions leave me underwhelemed. As others have noted the layout of this theater is a bit weird. Additionally, while not as loud and insane as the megaplexes on 42nd Street, this is still not a place to see a movie if you want to avoid audience commentary. They do get bonus points though for occassionaly doing screenings of little known films or films that have long since left the movie theater.

I've been fitted at Carelli many a time for shows. This is not a place you can just rent a costume from for a party of halloween event. Rather they sppecialize in theatrical costumes for theatrical productions. I don't know what their rates are like, but their selection is very good at least if you're staying within the 20th century (I've worn a lot of 1930 and 1940s pieces from there.

St. Patrick's is an astoundingly beautiful cathedral with hundreds of fascinating architectural, artistic and spiritual details. It is a popular tourist attraction for a reason, even for non0Catholics. Even so, remember that is a working cathedral with daily masses, so please be respectful of the space. This includes avoiding flash photography during masses, speaking quietly and turning your cell phones off. I'm not Catholic, but I do find the space continually worth visiting.

There's tru magic in seeing a show at the Delacrotse. Something about being outside, in the park, in the dark is just stunning and seriously ads to the theatrical expeirence, especially since the productions almost always take the environment into consideration. Be sure to bring a poncho in case of rain, and something to dry your seat off with in case it rained before the show. Refreshments are available at the theatre.

What is it with Associated choosing the most awkward spaces imaginable for supermarkets. This one is cramped, roams oddly up and down stairs, although it is mostly handicapped accessible, assuming you could get a wheelchair through its narrow aisles. This one has a fantastic cheese section, but a weak deli. They get bonus points for having lots of Italian sodas and a great selection (when seasonally appropriate) of food that is kosher for Passover. But over-all this Associated is hit or miss.

This is a nice Associated with a good selection of European products and an excellent produce and prepared foods sections. With such a good stock of specialty foods though, I am shocked by their utter lack of any specifically gluten-free products (other than those that normally are). While they do have some organic cereals and some rice-noodle that are gluten-free, there was nothing in terms of baked goods. Dissapointing in a supermarket that is striving and nearly succeeding at being gourmet.
