This is a pleasant place to have dinner. I like the food a great deal in terms of flavouring and selection, but find it to be a bit dry in terms of texture -- this might be a peeve for some. A bit on the pricey side, with a room not as glamorous as I want, I do enjoy this place, but always feel like it could be so much more than it is. But if you want to try a new cuisine it is certainly worth visiting.

Sarge's is one of the truly great, classic old New York delis. They are increasingly a dying breed, so it's worth experiencing while you still can. fantastic cured meats and deli foods and run by absolute characters. It's like a movie set if it weren't so commonplace New York. One of the quintiseential deli experiences in New York along with Katz's.

Do not ever use this Citibank branch if you can possibly help it. On teh weekends the cash machines always run out of money, but the worst problem is the employees. Once, I despoited two checks, both for the same amount -- one from a freelance job and one a gift from my mother for my birthday. Citibank lost one of the checks, and removed the amount from my bank account. When I went to them with xeroxes of the cancelled checks from both my mother and my employer asking for the funds to bereinstated, they accused me of trying to committ a crime and suggested, repeatedly, that if it weren't that, my mother had bounced my birthday check. Eventually, I was in tears, and which point I was belittled and told I would not be helped if I acted like a child. After over a week of this drama, they realized their mistake, reinstated the money, refunded me all fees related to the drama, and gave me free services on the account for years. The treatment I received was absolutely disgusting. Do not ever set foot in this branch if you can help it.

My feelings about Citibank are bixed. After all, iNew Yorker's favorite nick name for it is utterly obscene and their phone-based customer service is always frustrating. On the other hand, the branch near my office is great, and they've always ben helpful even in teh case of somewhat complex things. That said, my previous branch in the East Village was so evil they reduced me to tears once -- but at least I got some free services to make up for it. I suppose all banks in New York are bad, so proceed with caution.

In a city all about pizza, why would you go for chain pizza, and especially this chain pizza? The dough is too doughy and the sauce is both too acidic and too sweat. It's just an unsatisfying pie in terms of texture (for chain pizza, I'm partial to Pizza Hut if you really need that taste of the subburbs). On the other hand, some of their dessert things, like the cinamon sticks (especially pizza crust with icing, cinnamon and sugar) are sinfully junk food good.

Gobo offers healthy, quick, vegetarian food that's on teh cheap side. Whether you get takeout or eat in (the space is surprisingly pleasant) food here is satisfying, even if you aren't someone who eats vegetarian all the time. It's a nice alternative for a quick snack from the rows and rows of fast food restaurants in teh area.

Andrew's Coffee Shop is a perfectly ordinary, slightly old-fashioned diner. No surprises here, except for one. They have the best turkey club sandwhich I have ever, ever had in New York. Turkey is real meat, not processed sandwhich stuff. The bread is toasted just right and there's never too much or too little mayo. Really, the place to go if you're having that particular craving.

Go Sushi is another fast food sushi joint that doesn't flash freeze their sushi, but prepares it fresh. They also offer salads, miso soup and soba noddles (although with a peanut sauce, not the more traditional soup base). The salads are meiodcre, but sometimes exactly what you're craving. The sushi is generally good as is the miso soup. For a fast food place they move really slowly though.

Fast food sushi is generally of poor quality because the fish is flash frozen and then thawed. This is not the case at Teriyaki boy, which prepares its sushi fresh on premises. While it's still nothing spectacular, you can at least be assured of a fresh taste. They also have great cooked foods here, including gyoze and decent teriyaki over rice. My only complaint is that they were always incompetant at delivery. So I suggest you pick-up from them instead.

While I do think Ollie's is overrated, they do have good, cheap food, that isn't greasy like standard Chinese fare, and the eat-in environment, while casual and bland, is still a step above most Chinese restaurants (although I think the Columbia university location is preferrable in this regard), although it's more a take-out and delivery resource than anything else.
